    One of my favorite places ever. The room I stayed at was right down that hallway, a couple of rooms before the small chapel. It was awesome being able to go to adoration at any hour of the night. 🙏🙏🙏

    Beautiful, Rick. This reminds me of my annual retreat at the Cistercian Mount Saint Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire, England. I totally understand why you would want to spend a few days in silence coupled with talking with the Community.

    If this is the brethren chanting, it is excellent chant. Most communities of monks who pray in English don't have this quality of chant.

    In my place had one Chisterian monastry also, named Pertapaan Terapist Rawaseneng, kandangan, Temanggung.
    But this is scene very different of course.
    I hope somebody want invite me to visit this monastery. I pray for it. I had seen many videos related this monastery in US

    I used to visit another Trappist Monastery, that will remain nameless. I had the intention of discerning a vocation in contemplative orders. I tried the seminary, and another apostolic order. This would have been the third try. I would like to visit other communities, so perhaps Spencer, Mass some summer for a retreat. At any rate, after several visits, I learned WHY these monastery communities are dying, and learned things that were quite interesting (nothing Sexually corrupt). No thanks. I think I will stay a single Catholic man. No religious vows, no marriage vows. Just me and God.

  • @richardt.buryan832

    Is Spencer dying? Empty guest house. Seventeen elderly monks in choir. Where are the vocations? Where are the young men?

      We are living in very odd and strange times. I honestly do think that long after we are all gone, maybe between 100 and 500 years from now, there will be an enormous revival in monastic life. Becoming a monk or a nun will be like it used to be, plentiful. Unfortunately we had to bear witness to these odd times but I hope that my prediction comes true!

    • @ericdelisle5469
      @ericdelisle5469 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spencer is a popular retreat location. You generally have to book up to a year. It’s been quiet due to Covid shutdown and the retreat house is adding additional rooms and being remodeled. I think they do get a few new vocations a year. Great bookshop.

      They are definitely seeing more monks pass and not enough to fill the gap. They have had like 5 brothers or more pass in the past couple of years. They have one with temporary vows and one is a novice I believe.

    Alas. The Gregorian Chants in the background are not from this abbey. It is a bit dishonest. Their community prayer is a cacophony of english and sentimental melodies. Long gone is the beautiful chant form the Cistercian Antiphonal. The venerable Cistercian Rite of Mass has been demoted to the modern formless non-sacrificial rite. The once elite forces of the Church Militant are humiliated and struggling for relevance in the Conciliar Church. Vocations are few and far between. The great restoration will need great courage, and the monastic orders will flourish once again if they return to their sacred roots. We need another St Bernard to stand up and reform the reform !

    • @nubbyrose87
      @nubbyrose87 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Catholic Church do not condem smoking. Excessive smoking is considered sinful... due to "excess"... not the smoking per se.
      However, judging others as you have done is against God's decree.
      There is a mirror somewhere waiting for you to take a good long look at.
      Christ be with you.
