So many nail shape tutorials only show 4 fingers (of which we only use 3), and no thumb! Even though the thumb is arguably the most important nail…

Forgive me if this sounds condescending, as I appreciate the effort in making a video on the subject - None of the “ramping” that is shown here is actually going to facilitate great tone and easy playing.
What is needed to get great tone and smooth releasing of the nail is to shape the nail into a flat plane. There are videos of William Kanengiser and Jason Vieaux (both Grammy Award winners) discussing this at length.
As great of a player as Tennant is, I think the Pumping Nylon ramped nail (which you show here) is easily misunderstood by many players. The “ramp” is the straight line of the nail edge.

Wow. I came here to get some fine tuning advice and noticed her I finger shape and I suspect it can work for her with her particular technique, but it's not the typical shape we see being used, certainly anyone with at least a year of experience would be a bit perplexed at this shape.
Again I think it can work out well for her. I think it comes down to flesh nail connection point.
What I still find disturbing is that I haven't seen 1 concise explanation of nail shape, string connection and the science of the whole thing described holistically.
When it comes to nail shape and right hand technique. These "Do this it will work for you because it worked for me" videos just don't cut it.

Forget the nail file my friend... go to hardware shop and buy 1000 grit wet and dry paper... all the professional classical guitarists do this.. you can cut small strips or just leave on a big sheet.. place it on the table and swipe towards yourself and towards the left. This will give you the appropriate sweep... imagine you are trying to get paint off the edge of your nail... aim and then pull

@@charliebowen5071 Hi friend, my classical guitar teacher told me nails shaped this way (like in the video)(assymetrical) are better for flamenco. For classical guitar he says a symmetric and rounder shape is better. Is he right about it? I am confused

I had long nails once, but when i do ground work it breaks away,so i never had the chance to keep nails for long .
Instead i play with the fleshy part ..i am not sure whether it would yield any good result

I would try to find the maximum length that they don't break off mate. If you play with your skin it sounds far quieter, more muffled and less bright. If it is really not possible for you to grow your nails other options are to use a plectrum or some finger extensions, called finger plectrums, that are supposed to replicate nails. Hope that helps out! :)

This method you showed is quite good if you have perfectly shaped natural nails. But if you have very thin or not uniform shaped nail it needs a more advanced method. For this I have developed special artificial nails. They never break, holding 3 month, sound perfect and are applied in 5 minutes per nail. I am in the process of preparing a paper showing the exact procedure 🤓😋🥰
