The Skoda Octavia RS is one of the brand's most important models in Australia, because it's essentially the halo car for the brand. Those who are in the know about what Skoda offers understand that it has a sharp-edge approach to pricing, styling, and even performance for the 2021 Skoda Octavia vRS - or RS as we call it in Australia.
As such, this sub-$50k midsize liftback sedan and wagon offer tremendous levels of practicality and performance, while this new-generation model is also more modern, stylish and sophisticated than anything we've seen from Skoda to this point. Aside from the Roomster, of course.
This five-seat family car is a terrific option in this part of the market, offering a compelling alternative to a VW Golf, let alone a Subaru WRX, Mazda 6, Hyundai Sonata or any other midsize model with a performance edge that you can think of. In fact, you could consider it a much more budget-friendly alternative to an Audi A4 or A5.

Excellent review. Keep up the good work...
Fab car, great review. All the best, Rob, England.
Best Aussie review! Well done!
Better finish and better value for GTI, and bigger boot
I bought one fully optioned for 61999k, got a 2019 superb sportline aswell….Skoda make great cars and the functionality
Is Awsome…only wish they did the octavia vrs in awd 2.0ltr petrol..I guess vw won’t allow them??
For the 1.4TSI version, it has turned back to the torque converter, and first time ever to have an 8-speed AT. Let's have a look at whether those naughty people who disagree with DSG would purchase one.
Picked mine up last week. Apart from the fake noise - which unfortunately you have to switch off every time - it's been a delight to drive. I've only had AWD or RWD cars before, and was sceptical about FWD; but the LSD and damping work really well. Obviously haven't thrashed it yet, but it's FWD setup feels extremely well disguised.
Are you happy with it mate ? Currently I drive a 2017 Subaru Outback and I'm due for a.new car and I'm considering this
@1975tbm did you get the octavia in the end? I'm looking in to getting one 😅
I love all tests of sedans, wagons as opposed to the other more popular style of vehicle .
@T A Me too can't get enough car tests.
F the SUVs. Car cancer on the road. More wagons, as they are the perfect car.
you skipped the 1st generation of octavia RS
you mentioned 1st generation as the second one... not pretty
Octavia RS has 4 generations
Thanks for the review. Do you think that the excessive road noise on coarse surfaces could be due to the brand of tires on the car? Would a different brand such as Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s would make a difference?
It might change, however I don't find the road noise offensive. My previous Subaru had similar road noise. It all depends in the person and the definition of road noise is subjective
ADAC tests road noise at 130km/h and they found it average for the class. Better than A class Mercedes.
But obviously if you downsize wheels to 18 inches and look for more quiet tyres you can improve that further.
I've had my Skoda for 2 weeks and it truly is an amazing vehicle. I'm somewhat converted to Skoda now, after numerous years of owning Japanese vehicles. Take one for a drive and see how you go.
Michelin PS4S will be not be the quietest
Yes. I have driven the last RS245 model with Michys and it was a big improvement. Only ever use Michelin on my cars, grip and less noise
That pumped in noise sounds like a WRX 😂
No one has mentioned if O4 has a Virtual pedal?
Wouldn't mind a newer car but which one...MK4 focus st ecoblue, mk8 fiesta st3, Octavia vrs or BMW 1 series. 🤷🏼♀️🤔
So is it a Skoda VRS or is it a Koda RS?
No awd tdi coming here.... what a shame, that car looks the goods
For a brand known for its practicality they messed up big time for the all-touch controls even for climate, volume and sunroof! I've tested the slidy volume thingy in an ID3 some time ago and it sucked big time! Otherwise as Matt said, would have been an awesome alternative to compact SUVs...
That puts you off this car precious? Really?🤔
it's not a big deal. Once i have set up my controls, I seldom change them. Atleast this does not get Golf's horrible touch controls on steering wheels !
There is a volume dial on the steering wheel
It is a big deal. It's not only annoying but less safe. Heck, even the gear selector is a step back in driving experience.
I found the DCT still laggy compared to the 8 speed DCT from Hyundai
The tech on mine has being shite. No sat nav or infotainment for 9 days. Its still at the dealership trying to be repaired. Oh and the parkimg sensors keep failing . Other than that its being nice .
Thanks for the review Matt.
I was really looking forward to this car but low-60k fully optioned on the road turned me off it.
If I’m still in the market for a new car, I’ll consider the 140TSI if it ends up coming here. The 110 is definitely underpowered and different rear suspension not that great.
I don’t think the 110TSI is underpowered, and the 140TSI is not existing in the lineup of Octavia now. However, when matching with a 8 speed torque converter, our 110TSI maybe a little bit slower than the European version which is fitted with a 1.5TSI and a 7 speed DSG.
Look for a second hand Supurb, you can find some decent vehicles with low km
162 passat might be a better buy
Also look at the last gen RS 245 or don’t go for the $6100 option pack. Most of it is wank.
Also if you are looking at those other options then this car is not for you.
@@acde9355 The 110 is absolutely underpowered.
AWD, take my money but in FWD no thanks.
Never drink coffee in the car!
In Europe call it the Tavia as we use a silent Oc .. FFS .. it's a VRS .. call it what it is muppets :D

Here read this
Just like the GTI these are getting very expensive... I would want haldex awd for a $60k optioned and on the road rs
Good luck. I would like a 12” dong but I’m not getting that either!😆
Is it good value? No. Not at $63k with all the options
Don’t buy the options then. Nothing in the $6100 pack is essential at all. Nor is the sunroof.
If you want great value get the last model RS 245. I own one and it is brilliant.
@@dimsoneill I did buy a white RS245 wagon 2 months ago. I love it!
Front wheel drive?? No thank you
Skoda should be making these 6 speed manual and AWD
They do, but no market for them in Aus
Fwd only? That’s a joke for such a long car.
Not really. They've been predominantly FWD since Octavia 1 and have all been great cars.
Its a VRS
if only it was RWD
Why is this being premiered when most people in Australia are asleep ? Great marketing. . . Not.
