    TIME STAMPS:
4:17 -- Sa-Roc gets into the unique perspective that growing up in Washington D.C. provided her with and how that contributed to her evolution as an artist. She tells about growing up D.C. during the time of it being the murder capital and being surrounded by so many families that had fallen victim to the crack epidemeic. She also touches on her parents' strong interest and sense of pride in black culture, art and literature that was passed on to her at a very young age.
9:31 -- Sa-Roc tells about the importance of rapper Sha-Rock and activist Assata Shakur who her parents named her after and how they both embody her chosen rap name. She tells about a phone call from Sha-Rock giving her high praise for her work. Sa-Roc also reflects on her parents having her chant family mantras, teaching her meditation starting around the age of six years old.
15:13 -- Sa-Roc presents her argument for why Pan-African teachings, keeping the common interests of black americans at the forefront, and staying unified are so important to battle the powers that are constantly working to divide and conquer. She also tells about her music art-program 'City Of Peace' she did during her teenage years and explains how that experience helped her break her out of her shell, shed her inhibitions and vocalize her life-pains through the arts.
24:23 -- Sa-Rock shares her time attending Howard University and how HBCUs have always created something of a safe haven for the expression of ideas and sharing in experiences of her and her peers. Talib tells how his song 'Get By' landed when played in a strip club in Atlanta, they discuss Sa-Roc's song Goddess Gang and it's mass appeal while still landing a heavy message of addressing society's critiques on how women should look and behave.
34:20 -- Sa-Roc talks about her partnership with Atlanta producer Sol Messiah and explains how he mentored her on how to be an emcee with his deep knowledge of the fundamentals. She illustrates how over time they were able to sync their creativity into a seamless sound that was unique, consistent and stood out from the rest. Jasmin asks Sa-Roc about the darker times in her life of self-harm and asks why she felt it was so important to share that through her music.
43:50 -- Sa-Roc's term 'God Hop' is brought up. She tells how and why she felt compelled to coin the term during the height of Trap Music in order to define who she was and the lane she was taking before the industry tried to label it. Talib also asks Sa-Roc about her relationship with David Banner during the time he started his conscious path of becoming more socially and politically aware. She notes how helpful each have been to each other in their support of their individual endeavors.
51:33 -- Talib asks Sa-Roc about her song 'True Mastery' depicting concepts of Five Percenters as well as Womanism. She touches on how she successfully combined what can sometimes be seen as conflicting philosophies. Sa-Roc also goes into when she linked up with Rhymesayers Entertainment. Explaining how one of the early members of the label was playing her music in the office led to her being asked to perform at the Soundset Music Festival.
57:44 -- Sa-Roc explores her interest and references of Science Fiction and Afro-Futurism as well as how they have influenced and shaped her as an artist. She reflects on when she first discovered the genre, reading books by authors like Octavia Butler. She expands on how it sparked a whole other level of creativity and new ideas of what was possible. They also discuss vintage Star Trek episodes and how the acting and special effects have aged over the years.
1:03:43 -- Sa-Roc gets asked about her new album 'Sharecropper's Daughter', being dedicated to her father, his experiences in the Jim Crow South and the generational pain of descrimination that gets passed down. Sa-Roc tells about the inspiration she drew from Black Star's track 'Brown Skin Lady' as she notes the importance of acknowledging those that have elevated black culture in such an impactful way. They also discuss her experience being in the studio with Black Thought.
1:18:45 -- Sa-Roc touches on being hugely influenced by musical activists such as Nina Simone, Gil Scott-Heron, Last Poets and others who took the role of using their platforms to inform and educate. Sa-Roc is also asked about her song 'She Could Be Next' as a tribute to the 'The Squad' of US Congress. She goes on to tell why she chose to make the song, pressuring herself to take part in the election process, her take on the Biden-Harris presidency, dangers of being a loyalist to any one party, and speaking truth to power.
1:30:08 -- Sa-Roc explains how important the art of breathing properly has been in all aspects of her life. She gets into the significance of how breathing has been to improving her process creatively and relieving anxiety before performing. Talib brings up the Bronx-based duo of Tef Poe and Rebel Diaz with whom she has worked with and asks her if Sa-Roc if she laments the fact that skilled, conscious emcees like these haven't been able to break through to the masses.
1:37:09 -- Sa-Roc reflects on her path of becoming an advocate for plant based living. She looks back to how it all started when she was given a book from her teacher titled 'What's Wrong With Eating Meat'. She then goes into the 'Hip Hop is Green' movement that she has worked with in using her success to promote healthier eating habits in communities of color. In closing Sa-Roc is finally asked what she has planned in terms of new projects coming down the pipe-line

Sa-Roc is waaaaay ahead of her time! I listen to her speak and her experiences and I can't help but think of Queen Latifah, X-Clan, Poor Righteous Teachers, King Sun, Digable Planets and many other early Hip Hop groups that spoke to black consciousness!! I wonder what are her thoughts on the shift that took place from those groups to the gangsta rap craze that took place in the late 80's early 90's. Somewhere along the way, we went from "Self Destruction" to destroy self. I'd LOVE to hear her thoughts on that and what, if any, push back that she's gotten from the industry.
