Right now, Diablo is about as insecure as Farouk, but I would give him the potential to be as calm as Apollo can be. But that's going to take some age. And maturity.

I always think having another horse in sight is a great help, just someone holding another horse on the other side of the fence line. Maybe leading the new arrival around purposefully for 15 minutes then pop him into a stable next to a new buddy with a big pile of hay. 🐴😍
I just want to say , we all sometimes dont have time to think and sometimes dont have time to think , or we deal with things differently. It does not make it wrong, that's what makes us individuals we make our own choices . I have noticed a few comments saying instructing that Tara had done things wrong and should of done this or that. Tara is more than capable of knowing what to do , she has apollo and Farouk as proof. Please just cause people dont do things the way you would like , it doesn't make it wrong. Sorry rant over. He not only looks fantastic but seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Despite his brief panic at the gate he didn't seem panicked over all. Nervous, but also curious. You could see him looking and thinking. Can't wait to see how his training goes. I think you picked a good one!
My heart went out to him leaving his mum and all those strange experiences. You may need to look at higher fences , he will settle especially when the other horses accept him into the group. Lovely lovely horse, what a gait, and carriage - beautiful. Take care of him Tara he is going to be so special.
Beautiful. OK a bit of a blip with the gate but hey! I have seen fully trained horses behaving far worse in new surroundings. When you were walking him round, he stopped, looked, took in his surroundings and quite a few times had a relaxed back foot, that says it all. Love how he jogs along the fence line but always close to his new family. I don't know much about Andalusians but if Diablo is anything to go by they are lovely.
You certainly have an eye for a good horse, he is absolutely stunning ! The way he moves, very exciting! Thank goodness you had the new post in or the gate might have given way when he tried doing a spot of jumping ! Can't wait till he meets the boys !
As a longtime horse owner, I'm disappointed with the way you have treated this baby. I know you mean well and aren't abusive, but why did you not have the forethought to lease an elderly mare or gelding to turn him out with, ease his mental pain? I just feel sorry for this poor soul.
CoolerKitty Cat Toy ...Tara also bought the buckskin filly, which is being weaned and trained to load for transport. They will be companions. She’s coming in 2 weeks.

It’s all new to him..I mean what are Thoses red brown things making funny noises are they going to get me...in the other field. After the gate challenge he slowly looks a bit more confident; who ever put the gate up did a good job...that gate took some pressure on it luckily it held tight. He’s got to settle in..this is expected to start with. Nice movement on him. I think you did everything right there tara. I was about to ask has he been gelded.

bad idea -Diablo's hormones are still raging so he still thinks he is a stallion,. Also he doesnt appear to have learnt even basic manners. Apollo is dominant and a huge dangerous fight would be very likely.
He is absolutely beautiful, you are so patient with him while he takes in his new surroundings. I totally admire you for this Tara, the beeder hasn't prepared him for anything but I'm sure he will be settled in no time. ❤

What a lovely mover - and what a day for the little colt, just so much new stuff for him to deal with. Love your attitude to helping him settle in which was always going to be difficult with him not being weaned or exposed to much by the breeder.
New life. New sounds. The odd animals in the field next door. A lot to deal with in one day. On his own, he looks big in the paddock. I have to remind myself that he is still so, so young.

Tara, you really need a much smaller enclosed area, like a round pen. He also needs to be kept on a much shorter lead at first. There's just too much in that large area that will scare him. The wind is blowing like mad and he's in a new environment, so of course he is unsteady. If you have a center corridor in a barn, that would be a good place to start leading him. He'd be away from the road noise. In the US, a 6 foot fence (2 meters) is considered the minimum height for a fence for a horse that needs training.

There were many comments, and a lot of doubt about how well his breeder had produced him in the comments ... just want to say she has produced a well covered yearling, with a lovely shine on his coat .... last winter was so very hard for any one looking after, feeding, caring for horses, well it certainly was in the South, basically 6 months of rain and mud ... credit to her for that.
He's getting used to his new home poor baby ;sites and sounds ,he was drawn to running man and watched him for a long while👏🤣❤ ! ( noticed in yesterday's video too! He also liked Rens. Calling him good man😄❤
He is very striking. Maybe the noise from the traffic is spooking him a bit; after all it is noisy as h---. A muffler for your microphone would help eliminate some of that noise if not all....

Please go get some instruction about how to properly handle a horse, you cannot hold the lead rope the way you were it is dangerous. Also waving something behind a horse like you were with the lead rope at the gate drives them forward.
Bless him he’s just been a typical baby who are you guys over there your not like me 😂😂😂.He will settle in no problem he’s in safe hands Tara knows exactly what to do with him remember guys what she has done with Farouk since he was a baby and how lovely Apollo is Diablo will love his new home. He will settle even more once he’s castrated tomorrow 6 months down the line he’ll be a totally different horse who is extremely lucky to have a loving home and that’s the main thing in the my book. For a start the woman should be wearing a hard hat and gloves! I also would not put a baby out in a field on his own. This is putting the youngster and "handler" at risk

My heart was in my mouth when Diablo tried to jump the gate, I am so glad he didn't injure himself. What a wonderful trot he has, so, so elegant, and as for his name, I think it very smart, it is going to really suit him when he is fully mature :-)

yes Karen that's just the reason. I would never use him as a stallion so it is kinder to take away the urge to mate. In the UK not many horses are left entire so other riders get worried when they see a stallion even if it behaves impeccably.

@@Tara101 Yes, I grew up on a family farm. I watched the video of Farouk's castration. Frankly, it's a much gentler process than they used on calves and young pigs when I was growing up. I can understand why men might have a hard time with it, but I never did. I find many surgical procedures interesting. Thanks for double checking! Xoxoxo

Oh my goodness, he is just gorgeous! And so very, very brave. That huge paddock, all by himself, no mum or other horses for safety and to guide him but he walked on with you and watched everything. By the end he was seeing the three of you as his security which is as it should be...staying with you...smart little guy. And putting his head down towards the end was another good sign. One lucky chap; you done good, Tara! ❤😄 Did I say how breathtakingly gorgeous he is?
Diablo is a very handsome boy. Considering what he went through with being drugged, taken away from his mother without being weaned, having been loaded for the first time, a three hour ride in a moving box, a whole new place with no familar faces, and some funny neighbors I think he is doing very well.

Thankfull..he did not make it over tge gate...i have known horrible injuries when they did...he as so very little training..seems a stall with the comfort of his mother is most of what he has known. He is like a very young child now finding themselves all alone in the big world. I do believe the male voice of the men has some comfort to him...different than his breeder female voice.
Congratulations on your new yearling - Diablo is gorgeous! I'm sure that he'll become more relaxed with the cow in time. Despite not having been weaned, or handled much before you bought him, he seems remarkably well behaved considering he hadn't been castrated yet. The then yearling colt (one of the riding schoolies had a foal) was horrendous to lead before he was cut, trying to leap on your head and jump on you!

He is fabulous Tara and considering he wasn’t weaned from his mum I think he has done very well thought he would be more manic in the paddock, but he was very brave and his movement is beautiful, exciting times!

I must admit my heart was in my mouth when you let him go, as I was worried he might panic at something and inadvertently hurt himself. Such a lot for him to take in and no other horses near ( completely understand why you wouldn’t have had him with your boys though), although it did surprise me that he didn’t call out and although it looked quite dramatic, ultimately he was really quite calm, all things considered. Difficult to know what to do I guess, put him in a stable to chill, or put him in the paddock to stretch his legs. I think perhaps he was just so overwhelmed at everything, which is quite understandable. Thank you for being so honest too Tara and if you make a mistake you will say 👍 No harm done and glad you’ve had him castrated, will make things a lot easier and I have to say he moves beautifully 😊 I wondered if 🏃♂️ was going to get a run for his money when he went over the fence 🤣

I think the ppl were very patient but if they had brought a little alfalfa or something he liked to encourage him with, it might have helped better than pushing him in. He wad scared.
Diabolo looked ok but I didnt think bella look very good I just hope u didnt pay too much she was under weight very boney and they had done no work even to get them loaded on to trailer you must of been annoyed
Very distressing for Diablo and for all concerned I'm sure, new home and new humans, smells, sounds, away from his dam for the first time and everything he has known for his entire life all rolled into one, makes for a trying time, but all in all, he managed to get through it and wow, what beautiful confirmation and a really lovely mover. He's gonna be a good'un Tara and I liked how he kept close to you and your voice and reassurances. Not something you would choose for him to go through, but he did ....He really is magnificent.
It just shows what little work this breeder did with this horse, you have your work cut out for you. However, your patience and reassurance from the both of you will make this horse become exactly like Farouk and Apollo. It is a beauty, for sure! Congratulations Tara!

Well, Rens, Steve and Apollo certainly did a fine job rebuilding that gate! Glad Diablo wasn’t hurt, mighty scared though. He is gorgeous and will be a stunner when he grows up. I am seeing the elegance of Farouk and a dose of Apollo’s heft. And he seems to have a good head on his shoulders considering the traumatizing start to his day. I am so looking forward to watching his development. You did good, Tara and Rens.

I don’t think it’s wise to have a youngster without a companion in a field. Always had my babies with a nanny pony. Helps them feel safe and secure.

His ears were going 90 miles an hour. He will settle down & be calm as Apollo & Farouk.

He not only looks fantastic but seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Despite his brief panic at the gate he didn't seem panicked over all. Nervous, but also curious. You could see him looking and thinking. Can't wait to see how his training goes. I think you picked a good one!
My heart went out to him leaving his mum and all those strange experiences. You may need to look at higher fences , he will settle especially when the other horses accept him into the group. Lovely lovely horse, what a gait, and carriage - beautiful. Take care of him Tara he is going to be so special.

Beautiful. OK a bit of a blip with the gate but hey! I have seen fully trained horses behaving far worse in new surroundings. When you were walking him round, he stopped, looked, took in his surroundings and quite a few times had a relaxed back foot, that says it all. Love how he jogs along the fence line but always close to his new family. I don't know much about Andalusians but if Diablo is anything to go by they are lovely.

As a longtime horse owner, I'm disappointed with the way you have treated this baby. I know you mean well and aren't abusive, but why did you not have the forethought to lease an elderly mare or gelding to turn him out with, ease his mental pain? I just feel sorry for this poor soul.

After the gate challenge he slowly looks a bit more confident; who ever put the gate up did a good job...that gate took some pressure on it luckily it held tight.

bad idea -Diablo's hormones are still raging so he still thinks he is a stallion,. Also he doesnt appear to have learnt even basic manners. Apollo is dominant and a huge dangerous fight would be very likely.

Goodness!! He’s really wired but you could see he was beginning to settle by the end - sniffing the ground. I must say what a magnificent gait!! He has the loveliest legs and carriage!! 👏👏👏 Such a handsome fellow 😍 all these minor issues will be a distant memory very soon. I think he’s going to be wonderful. Am I mistaken or does he seem to have a bit of a thing for Steve? I watched him yesterday and today and he seems to be drawn to Steve a little. 🤔 OMG this all just SOOOOO exciting!!! 🤗🤗

I just have to get over the fact that you called the little buckskin Bella 😅. It was a horse called Bella that, this time last year, unceremoniously dumped me, fracturing my pelvis. Tara, you really need a much smaller enclosed area, like a round pen. He also needs to be kept on a much shorter lead at first. There's just too much in that large area that will scare him. The wind is blowing like mad and he's in a new environment, so of course he is unsteady. If you have a center corridor in a barn, that would be a good place to start leading him. He'd be away from the road noise. In the US, a 6 foot fence (2 meters) is considered the minimum height for a fence for a horse that needs training.

There were many comments, and a lot of doubt about how well his breeder had produced him in the comments ... just want to say she has produced a well covered yearling, with a lovely shine on his coat .... last winter was so very hard for any one looking after, feeding, caring for horses, well it certainly was in the South, basically 6 months of rain and mud ... credit to her for that.

He is very striking. Maybe the noise from the traffic is spooking him a bit; after all it is noisy as h---. A muffler for your microphone would help eliminate some of that noise if not all....

Please go get some instruction about how to properly handle a horse, you cannot hold the lead rope the way you were it is dangerous. Also waving something behind a horse like you were with the lead rope at the gate drives them forward.

He will settle even more once he’s castrated tomorrow 6 months down the line he’ll be a totally different horse who is extremely lucky to have a loving home and that’s the main thing in the my book. Oh Tara he is a beauty, he looks so intelligent, after a very long day, the time you took with him calming him and then once loose he kept going back to you for reassurance, whatever happens tomorrow I have now watched long enough to know that you will do the best for him, that you are always kind, and so very knowledgable, perhaps you could share with us the reason why horses are castrated, I’m thinking along the lines of giving them a much calmer life without hormones rushing through their system.
yes Karen that's just the reason. I would never use him as a stallion so it is kinder to take away the urge to mate. In the UK not many horses are left entire so other riders get worried when they see a stallion even if it behaves impeccably.

I watched the video of Farouk's castration.
Frankly, it's a much gentler process than they used on calves and young pigs when I was growing up.
I can understand why men might have a hard time with it, but I never did. I find many surgical procedures interesting.

Oh my goodness, he is just gorgeous! And so very, very brave. That huge paddock, all by himself, no mum or other horses for safety and to guide him but he walked on with you and watched everything. By the end he was seeing the three of you as his security which is as it should be...staying with you...smart little guy. And putting his head down towards the end was another good sign. One lucky chap; you done good, Tara! ❤😄 Did I say how breathtakingly gorgeous he is?

Diablo is a very handsome boy. Considering what he went through with being drugged, taken away from his mother without being weaned, having been loaded for the first time, a three hour ride in a moving box, a whole new place with no familar faces, and some funny neighbors I think he is doing very well.

Thankfull..he did not make it over tge gate...i have known horrible injuries when they did...he as so very little training..seems a stall with the comfort of his mother is most of what he has known. He is like a very young child now finding themselves all alone in the big world. I do believe the male voice of the men has some comfort to him...different than his breeder female voice.
Congratulations on your new yearling - Diablo is gorgeous! I'm sure that he'll become more relaxed with the cow in time. Despite not having been weaned, or handled much before you bought him, he seems remarkably well behaved considering he hadn't been castrated yet. The then yearling colt (one of the riding schoolies had a foal) was horrendous to lead before he was cut, trying to leap on your head and jump on you!

Three; Apollo, Farouk and Bella. Diablo was returned to the breeder shortly after arrival, because he didn't fit in.

He is fabulous Tara and considering he wasn’t weaned from his mum I think he has done very well thought he would be more manic in the paddock, but he was very brave and his movement is beautiful, exciting times!

I must admit my heart was in my mouth when you let him go, as I was worried he might panic at something and inadvertently hurt himself. Such a lot for him to take in and no other horses near ( completely understand why you wouldn’t have had him with your boys though), although it did surprise me that he didn’t call out and although it looked quite dramatic, ultimately he was really quite calm, all things considered. Difficult to know what to do I guess, put him in a stable to chill, or put him in the paddock to stretch his legs. I think perhaps he was just so overwhelmed at everything, which is quite understandable. Thank you for being so honest too Tara and if you make a mistake you will say 👍 No harm done and glad you’ve had him castrated, will make things a lot easier and I have to say he moves beautifully 😊 I wondered if 🏃♂️ was going to get a run for his money when he went over the fence 🤣

Very distressing for Diablo and for all concerned I'm sure, new home and new humans, smells, sounds, away from his dam for the first time and everything he has known for his entire life all rolled into one, makes for a trying time, but all in all, he managed to get through it and wow, what beautiful confirmation and a really lovely mover. He's gonna be a good'un Tara and I liked how he kept close to you and your voice and reassurances. Not something you would choose for him to go through, but he did ....He really is magnificent.

Well, Rens, Steve and Apollo certainly did a fine job rebuilding that gate! Glad Diablo wasn’t hurt, mighty scared though. He is gorgeous and will be a stunner when he grows up. I am seeing the elegance of Farouk and a dose of Apollo’s heft. And he seems to have a good head on his shoulders considering the traumatizing start to his day. I am so looking forward to watching his development. You did good, Tara and Rens.

I take this lesson as being to stall the new horse until they make friends with other horses and become part of the herd. Everything is a lesson.
