Call Me by My Name is a comedy about a young Chinese lady’s battle with her identity in America. She goes to her Chinese name as the source of her problems, only to be met with pushbacks from people around her, and above her - the female general ancestor. These moments make Jessie, our main lady, eventually realize what’s the actual core of her existence.
Way to cool with a fun message. Would love to see Jessie in a major movie so we could see more of her and her talent on the big screen.
Jessie, it looks like this is another dimension where people in America get along with each other.
This needs to become a TV show.
Ya
The name thing is so real. Our parents put a lot of efforts in our Chinese name and puts a lot of meanings into it. Having an English name sometimes means to have an identity founded by oneself for some, but sometimes it also means to lose a lot of the good wishes.
Aww it's so sweet i wonder how many episodes are there also josh is slowly becoming my favourite character because he is sweet and the only one besides Jessie's friends who actually care for her and her name same goes to their ancestors
There are six episodes total.
Jiequian!! Cool name …use whichever one you want ,and whenever you want! Im an old white guy who appreciates other cultures 😊
Hi, don’t wanna sound rude but it’s Jieqian, no u
talk about racist….
@@moonegalacticawhat? No… he said he appreciates other cultures… learn what racist is before you go on saying that
This woman is a star.
I just imagine they're going to a pizza place with a bag full of meat they snuck out of the hotpot place to put on the pizza.
Regardless of which name she chooses to use, she is a very adorable young woman with a great personality. Witty and charming. 😍
Ahhh I love this!! It’s all about the love in their hearts
Your story is so thought provoking on so many levels. I hope that the viewers will go below the surface level of the dialog to understand the message that you are conveying.
You have a unique talent and insight into today's society. Please share more of it with us.
Signed: just another one of the "... all old white men who look the same ...".
There is a reason for that.
Wow wow I love her acting this is episode 6 I'm excited to Watch more of her episodes
Is it over? Will there be more episodes of this series?
Jessie is always so cheerful at work, haha. Unlike me, I hate making small talk.
Always love these
Its so cute when he carries her. What you doing 😅
我喜歡這個系列,繼續努力🥀
❤makes it feel like a love drama...you know...meant for each other since 600years ago or something like that... i dont know how is it called but those dramas that they die and then the have another chance to live again and they get in love one more time🥺 so cute... i have a question😅 is he a friend acting as a future lover or is your real boyfriend in your real life👀
And i thought I am the only one who was shipping them
oh@afrikarim2491 i was
Hey Jessie! I saw your mini series, "Call Me By My Name", from beginning to end. After watching all 6 episodes, I found it very interesting and funny. You have a cool Chinese name as well. I hope to see more of these videos. Stay sweet and funny.
I'M OBSESSED WITH JESSIE!!!!❤❤❤❤
Xiao Jieqian, 认识你很高兴❤
when he said "just wanted to 'align' with you," I threw up in my mouth a little. Literally my job, that's the corporate speak word of the year 2024.
This series made me smile. And a bit sad as I live in east eu and I dated girl from China who after few years had enough of people here. People here didn't really accepted different cultures a few years ago sadly. So even if t he situation of you and your character is different, it's nice to see the message you sent here. While you focused on character's identity it was just nice to see community that gets along no matter the differences, even if it is awkward sometimes.
I really enjoyed this short film. It really did addresses alot of social issues in a digestible format for Asian Americans. Jessie definitely has the X factor for acting.
Yessie yessie for jessie that episode was fantastic and awesome two thumbs up for jessie ❤
This women is so amazing . She embodies her culture
This was a great show! Very happy to have stumbled on it. P.s. we need a Lee cameo!
I really love this by the way, my name is very very long it's why I go by initials and I haven't gone by my English name in a very very long time predominantly because I've always hated it, my mother chose my English name my father chose my name among my people... It is the name I use most often. My dad had the experience where the anglicized his name and when he was in the army they actually made the mistake of thinking he was a woman because he had a French first name and the name Jean was thought to be a woman's name and until they realized this mistake he didn't get his discharge for about a few weeks as I understand it almost a month. Hell yeah I understand that very well.
I must have missed the part where Jieqian and Josh became a couple?
They didn't yet i guess it's seems more like situationship
Episode 6? Time to watch episode 1 🎉
I enjoyed this show. ♥️
Another one out of the park. No Tinseltown superficial feel to the plot, and no shocking violence, but I heard a gun mentioned once.🎉
The reason I started learning Chinese was so I could call my Chinese friends by their Chinese names. I felt it was rude to call them by their English name because I was too lazy to pronounce their name correctly in Chinese.
If you use your Chinese name we have to forever pronounce it with a frowny face though. You want to give people a heart attack?
Love the story and sentiment behind it.
I have an odd name, and being an army brat, i changed my name so that it was easier for others. It's funny that eventually, most people started calling by my real name that i rarely use my nickname anymore.
.... it could be that I'm rather absent-minded and didn't always notice it when people called my name... for example that my oldest kept calling me mom (while i was talking to some other moms) and got frustrated and yelled DA-BEE-DA! (Daveda with 3 syllables) which obviously got my attention. It was so funny at the time, and i absolutely loved the way he pronounced my name.
(Dont worry, it wasn't neglect. He knew I had heard kids calling for their moms all day that day.
Besides our oldest twin daughter who died from a genetic heart defect, our kids are all grown, productive, and as happy as any Gen Zer who lost a sister as a teen.)
I ❤️ Your Video And Your Channel Jessie.
This was so awesome!!!!! I really enjoyed it!!!!
Nice story Jessie,
Sounds like a wonderful life!
Lots of people have English name and haratage name. Very cool! Qujanaq (thank you) jessi!
I really enjoyed this movie.
好嘢,讚 !!!
all white men look the same to me too 😭😂
Love it
But time goes so fast
It's almost 2025😢
I love this show Jessie. Jieqian! ..
Episode 7 plz 😁
Xiao as a surname exists in 2 different ways according
en.m.wikipedia.org
So there is
Xiāo 萧 (simplified)
Xiào 肖 (specially simplified)
Surprising the tone changes??
(can someone give a hint?)
(what does Jessie use to write it?)
Beautiful and fun series!
天啊!do you have a series!? I'd love you to have also some Chinese lessons
Come on Jessie did the illuminati handshake 🤝 😳
love you jessie! also, have you ever heard the chinese let it go? i heard it recently when my sister was watching it and wondered if it was overly literal or not.
This is a nice little series…. Will there be a part 2?
3:52 club sandwich with extra spit comin.....
Are we supposed to empathize with the waiter character? She may not have taken the right message from what he said, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a point. If they want The spiciest thing on the menu, make them sign a waiver like he did two episodes ago, and then if they can’t handle it, it’s on them for having false confidence. But some white people still like really spicy food and you still can’t generalize and stereotype people based on race. That chick didn’t look very white in the first place
I liked this series.
the spirit of Tommy Wisseau
Woahhh this was amazing ❤
How the hell does this beautiful video have 666 likes.
Now it has 701 but its so nice ahh
She is so cute

Happy birthday to your kitten, 1 year
Its 19.25 months old

Jieqian sounds like “借钱”,which means “borrowing $ ”
This is like me! I also used to want to change my name (xiaojiayi)
Why u so cute. ❤️
My only question is will there be episode 7?
Same
Where are more? Please say you are making more?
That's awesome that she stuck with her birth name. Assimilation is just another word for other people's laziness. No one should have to give up their identity because people around them don't want to put in any effort.
Where is his Wu-Tang hoodie?
Release the next episode, pleaseeeeeeee😢
I know Chinese
fifth the one with the treasure chest
Xiao? Isn't that the Pinyin pronunciation for the Chinese character meaning small?
Are you aware of the HK model/singer/actress Gillian Chung? I read she was given a name by her parents who then changed it because a HK fortune teller said the child was too weak for the name as given.
I love these videos of yours. ❤❤❤❤
The intonation is different, the Xiao for the surname is in the first intonation, the Xiao for small is in the third intonation. Most pronunciations regardless of intonation is representing many different words, there are 4 intonations, for example, laughing is Xiao in the forth intonation. Even with the same intonation, it can often represent multiple words. This is why Chinese words are usually composites of 2 characters so it is easier to understand the context. A little bit like in English, if we are talking about "flower" and "flour" with no context, you might have a hard time guessing which one was being referred to.
@@toujingyi9156 So complicated...which is why I quit trying to learn. Gave up on Japanese too for different but related reasons. Thank you.
@@hnrccaa no, they were 2 different, unrelated surnames

@@moonegalactica??

Could you please evaluate Luke Neale's Mandarin level?
4:56 is that waiter the only sane person ?
evelyn second sane person
you are so beautiful
Funny how, at the end, they wrote her name with latin letters and not english runes or chinese logograms.

2:12 end of probation presentation ... wtf? go woke get broke company if I ever seen one.
@Ciprian-lonutPanait Why?? Plenty of positions in corporate companies employ persons on a trial period basis. Then person is required to provide evidence that they know, fully, what's required of them and what they might expect in the future.
(As just couple examples, of various ways a performance review might be done).
Performance review is common in corporate, public service/gov't departments, & even in hospitality, and require you demonstrating (/ presentation) that you learnt many skills & know the many of the requirements, that the job entails.
Each bar job I ever had (except 1), I was hired on a trial basis (probation basis).
At the end of the trial period I had to demonstrate I had (learned) quite good knowledge of wines, cocktails, service requirements, liquor laws re serving & or refusing service. In a retail job I was promoted to a Store Manager but was on a trial period, until shown the store had good and increased sales; & before being permanent Store Manager, I had to show my superiors (who were supervisors of 10+ stores) what I had done in-store to help increase sale. As well as other things, like keeping stock neat and tidy, back areas well accessible (not cartons sitting on the floor between stock fixtures. So was all probation presentation.
ALL that Above was well before the word 'woke' was invented! Well, before became common usage term since "woke" dates to the 1930s, but meant be aware, be wary, & watch for injustices. It doesn't mean being 'politically correct'.
Even though that's now how many, in comments like yours, synonym it.
I didn't even get on to a (short term) corporate job i had. After the end of that probation/trial period, I decided we weren't a match.
3:13 Gutter oil.
Will you plz react to swordsman 3 the east is red in Cantonese plz that's my request to you from Kentucky USA ❤
Waiting for a cute love story ❤
this is awfully similar to a short movie with the same name that released in 2021 by director Ruixi Gao
Hi, your short videos were nice, these videos look kinda documentary ones, I think if you want to benefit from them, you may add a Chinese translation, so Chinese learners and Chinese people aiming to travel abroad can use it , thank you
@a.a. dagestani, There's already 2 auto translate options & an easy to do manual translation. Click cc icon, under the video. Then click cogwheel (spokes wheel) & select Auto Translate, then select English To Simplified Chinese (or to Traditional; or any language you want it to be in. That will put the translation on the screen.
Isn't entirely accurate, since computers translated, but about 70% accurate.
Or another option is (or for an "in conjunction option" as well) :
Go to description under the video; click 'more' at end of (some of the) text is showing. Then click on Show Transcript. Each transcript line is Timestamped.
English Transcript will likely show to right of browser screen. Resize your browser, or resize the page by pressing (together) Ctrl or Ctrl - . So the Transcript moves to the left side on browser screen and it will be (almost) directly under the Chinese, on the screen. (that you have already selected, as detailed in previous paragraph.).
The Chinese overlay, over the video is of course in Chinese Characters.
If want the text in Roman/English Letters with the Chinese pronunciation, copy Transcript to Google Translate. (Suggest copying it segments, to where there's a break in the speech, such as where it [Music].
In Googe translate it shows (first) as Chinese Characters, but if click 'more' at end of those, it will show pronunciation/text in Roman/English Letters.
If want to watch the video at same time, as using Google Translate, just open a 2nd instance of your browser, by right clicking on it's icon.
All these options are available on mobile/cell phones. The access & setup is a little different, but the above isn't that much different. On a phone go to Settings, then Accessibility or Ease of Use (depends on what type phone, which it is).
Find the Speech to text Options.
There are also plenty of paid apps that will do all of or any of above, and put both the English & translated to whichever language on screen
@@CBM_Walks Thank you, if I'm not an expert on TH-cam, I think I'll press on cc icon, I'll find it just in English then I won't continue to watch; maybe you can solve it somehow. also including stops in the videos to explain grammar, important Chinese /English words in the video etc., will help in attracting more people; I see that the quality of the videos is so good, and the time and effort also means you are trying your best, but the series should have a goal that let the people watch it, for the shorts they are so funny, but these episodes are a little bit tough to understand, some of it a long time ago some people did it in 马马虎虎 or Japanese related cultural shocks for example this one (th-cam.com/video/oLt5qSm9U80/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OaExVXGOgAcSCqfy) , I hope my comments could help best wishes.
