The difference now is that the strategy has changed. It is now a peaceful invasion but at the rate it’s going just a matter of time before eventually they will out number the native born population.
From my observations Dominicans and other hispanic countries people mention their nationality when asked what they are. In the United States is race first and in the middle east their obsession is religion.

Let’s just overlook the fact that if you’re dark skinned people will literally stop you on the street and try to sell you skin bleaching products. Of true fact that people STILL try to convince dark skinned people to “Mejorar la raza”.
No Dominicans in majority are really friendly and humble people. There is definitely more classism and that hate towards Haitians is because they feel like Haitians are trying to take over their country , which Dominicans fought very hard for independence from Haiti.

That's because most Dominicans aren't racist and have never been racist. It's a very small minority of Dominicans that are (and they come in different colors too), so because of how few they are it's easy to avoid them. That's why Dominicans are bothered when some people say Dominicans are racist, because it includes everyone in the same bag. If they say some are, then that's no problem.

Most of the ppl who answered didn't even define the situations as being racist. They expressed prejudice and classism. Racism is based solely on feeling superior to someone due to skin tone, which none of them expressed or described in the situations they mentioned. Then the two women mentioned comments of calling someone negro or moreno...thats common terminology all over the Caribbean, including black Caribbean countries like Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Grenada, etc. Ppl are nick named blackie, coolie, Red man, Indian, Yellow man..etc. Just like in DR they call ppl Moreno, Negro, Trigueño, Cano, Habao, Mulatta, Rubia, etc. None of that has anything to do with Racism. So the point they tried to make is moot. Im sure there's a handful of racist in DR like all over the world. But to say 70% of the DR is Racist is just IGNORANT. That woman doesn't know 70% of the Dominican population to even make such an ignorant statement.
The Haitian occupation's suppression of Dominican culture (including the Spanish language and Catholic Religion), forceful expropriation of Dominican wealth to Haitian elites, and strict policies based on labor led to growing resentment that culminated in a Dominican movement for national independence
The guy in the red shirt told no lies so many people from countries like Nigeria, Haiti, Cameroon, chad, ghana have taught children at young age to be discriminatory towards people who don't look like them racism and prejudice can be directed against anyone.
If the person is black from the Dominican Republic or from another place other the Haitians the Dominicans are not raisist, but if the person is Haitians many are.The Dominican Republic have had many problems with Haitians throughout history. HAITIANS invaded the Dominican republic and killed and abused many Dominican for a long time and people do not forget about that.
You just told lie on the Haitians. Haiti never invaded Dominican Republic, there was no country called Dominican Republic. it was just Hispaniola. The Haitians liberated the entire island. What's known today as Dominican Republic, was a slave plantation. Why are you lying on the Haitian people? It was the white and mulatto class who rebelled against the Haitian government and declared independence from Haiti and broke the country into two nations. Do you any history?
Don’t forget the one the Dominican presidents ordered a Genocide in Haiti in 1937 simple because he hated dark skin people (which are most Haitians). To this day colorism is still a problem among Dominicans…
@oneslapman2393 Remember that president who gave the order to kill the Haitians was himself have Haitian.Alsio the Haitians committed a massacre before against the Dominicans. Moca massacre.
Stop you lie Haitian free DR. Spain had slavery in the DR how they mistreated the slave and taino . DR is only place to ask their oppressors to come to back.
They are racist among themselves already. Not all of course but they have that mentality that the whites and mulattos want to enslave them, and the lack of trust goes both ways
Haitians in Haiti do not have interaction with Dominicans and almost nothing is taught about DR is schools. Haitians in Haiti only know DR thru news reports.

I don’t think Dominicans are racist. You have racism all over. You have Haitian that are racist against Dominicans. I do think that Dominicans should protect there sovereignty. Because if it would have been the other way around like Dominicans flocking into Haiti o trust me they would have done the same
Racism is a bit sensitive topic, but I guess in DR things are the same as everywhere - majority of people are not racists .. or they think so .. and some people are. The reasons for racism can be different - it comes from cultural background, personal experience or from a home upbringing .. and it's pretty difficult to get rid of it .. but on a personal level a big warm smile and a few nice words will always break the ice :))
In my opinion, there is racism everywhere. As a black man living in the USA. Hell yes, its bad and in your face. I have not had any problems abroad. In the DR, love it. No racism in my face.

In order to accurately answer the question one must first understand and know the meaning of the word racism. Unfortunately after listening to the multiple responses and based on what I heard most were clueless. They are understandably confusing racism with xenophobia, discrimination, colorism and nationalism. These terms although similar and closely related, they are not synonyms most definitely not one and same. I’m not saying that there are no racists in the DR, some worse than others, but every country has their fair share and the DR is no exception. However to accuse Dominicans of racism is completely false and absolutely inaccurate. People can say what they want but had it been otherwise the DR would have never become one if not the most racially integrated country in the western hemisphere. The DR is a rare exception among few with one of the most diverse population in the world, a mixed salad, a combination of multiracial, multicultural and multiethnic people. Race is mostly a non-issue, we are not conscious about it and if it does ever come up, it is because of foreign influences who want to change or interrupt our racially homogeneous mentality
8:30 DR is most integrated country for white folks, ppl with straight hair, near white ppl but not black ppl. All black are almost consider haitian. This is a country that want to be called "so muuucchh" a MULATTO country" that they are more open to white or ppl of color. Look at the majority of the ppl who amswer the question, they are not dark skin. How can they experience racism or colorism in a country that privilege light skin?
@@pierrelouiswalkenslove7679 -Do you even know the meaning of the word Mulatto? I don’t think so. Tell me something have you ever heard of Jose Francisco Pena Gómez? @@williampolancos3673 No i don't understand the word "Mulatto" just because this word was a pejorative word used during the slavery period to diminish all people born with a mixture of a "white and black". The birth to a muxture of a Mulatto and/or whatever the color of the skin is no longer a Mulatto, but still nowadays the pride of having light skin and a little straight hair make ppl like Dominican feel like they are Mullato, so the DONKEY Of course they are dominican who are Mullatoes but they are those born from a white and a black relationship.

I had to speak Spanish to him and tell him I love Dominicans that's when he gave it back... The whole time white people just being greeted with big smiles and peacefully passing through
The gentleman in the burgundy shirt shut that question down. He gave the answer to that question, in a clear very and very concise manner and the reporter had nothing to add. That was my favorite part of the video.
You right. But, don't confuse the foreigners in DR with being actual Dominicans. For example, the millions of Haitians, Cocolos and the descendants of Afro Americans in DR are not actual Dominicans. They are foreigners. The same goes for the Europeans and Asians in DR.
All of this about Dominicans... Is because of the millions of Haitians, Cocolos and descendants of Afro Americans that reside in DR and people are confusing them with being Dominicans.
@@amgooder How do you know that Sammy Sosa is Dominican and not Haitian, Black Immigrant or a descendant of Afro Americans? Don't assume that all those black people in DR are all Dominicans.
In general, Dominicans are not racist, but there is a part that is. What does predominate is xenophobia, this for historical reasons and cultural differences (obviously with Haitians). There is also a lot of classism in sectors of big cities like Santo Domingo. It is a classism that is sometimes mixed with racism, but classism always prevails. My mother is mulatto (like almost all Dominicans), but light-skinned, it's easy for people to think she's pure white (many people don't differentiate between races or ethnicities properly). She has suffered some class discrimination, because of where she comes from in the city. In my case, some look at me and think I'm a foreigner, something that almost never happens. In other words, there is also discrimination against people who are not dark-skinned, but not so much. But I repeat, xenophobia is what prevails. Also take into account the current context, due to the high and uncontrolled Haitian immigration, many Dominicans are upset or tired of the collapsed public system due to Haitians (which is valid). The Haitian crisis was provoked, you just have to read the news, and what Haitians say when they discuss the issue with Dominicans. In a meeting on twitter, a Haitian man told the Dominicans that they should take care of their country, since those who caused the Haitian crisis (businessman and politicians) also want to take it to the DR.
@@StillJustDclassism an excuse? I’m sorry but the Dominican in USA are not 100% Dominican with Dominican problems. The problem here is not xenophobia nor racism, it’s classism, it’s always been like that. If you don’t know that then you are not Dominican.
It’s not we don’t differentiate ethnicity and races properly, it’s just because we see skin colors as they are, skin colors. We don’t care about the race discussion, we are not obsessed with that like the USA. If your skin is white, then you are white and Dominican.
There's a lot of classism in the DR. I'm not too sure about racism . In the DR social status and economic power is deeply rooted into the culture and that determines how Dominican society treats the ones that have vs the have Not . If a white Dominican and a black Dominican both go for a job interview who are they going to pick? There is also a thing about "better the race" by marrying whites. But of course lets sugar coat it with classism, if you go to the U.S./Europe...same thing, rich treat the poor differently.
There is racism everywhere in the world cuz that’s human innate mentality before reaching wisdom and knowledge of who we really are: We are the same specie. However, here in the DR we experience more classism. That’s because everyone excluding the 13 % white and the 8% black almost everyone is mulatto or mixed: Due to the immigration of Spanish, English, French, Arabic, Polish Buccaneers and Pirates. Therefore, people with a higher quality of life think of themselves as better, no matter the color of skin.

Los Dominicans no somos racistas porque somos gente mestiza de todos los colores y etnias, eso no tiene sentido en RD 🙄 Dominicans are not racist because we are mixed race people of all colors and ethnicities, that doesn't make sense in the DR 🙄

In reality Dominicans ( white or black Dominicans ) are classits, not racist. Dominican are afraid of poverty and their neigbord country is a very poor country and Dominicans think that all Haitians are poor.
As a Dominican, we are very happy people. We could care less about skin color. Even when we call people “mi negra” or “morena”, we do it with LOVE. There are a LOT of miss information about Dominicans specifically coming from the United States against us Dominicans simply because we have borders like THE REST OF THE WORLD. ALSO, people can’t seem to understand that Dominicans and Haitians are two different groups of people, just like Mexicans and Americans, we share the same land divided by a border. Literally north and south America is the same piece of land just divided by borders. So to say we are the same people is like saying Americans and Mexicans are the same people. NOW, as a born and raised Dominican, I grew up seeing Haitians everywhere and it is a normal thing to us, we also have a lot of Chinese people and is VERY normal to us seeing them. A weird thing would be not seeing them, they are part of who we see on a daily basis since birth. We do want people who come to the island to add positive things to the land instead of negative, we already have a lot of crime to add more to it. We want people who work and help the economy and well being of Tourists as well as our citizens but when it’s the opposite, that’s when it becomes a problem. Also, lots of miss information regarding the history if the island, a lot of made up stories out there. We are a group of happy and loving people who live by the day and some people don’t like it… we’re still Dominicans and we will still be chilling 😂 cause who can make us mad? 🤣🇩🇴

I really liked this video; no flowers no rain... Unfortunately, there is racism everywhere. Some countries have some background history involving race and that remains from generation to generation. I,myself, have relatives who are racist and everytime such trait comes along in them I loose my grip and call them out. On that same note,I have amazing people around who would do anything for anyone regardless of their color/ethnicity. As the spanish elder stated: That comes from generations and I experienced it when in Barcelona. We just gotta do our part and embrace ourselves,be kind and treat everybody equally.
The Dominicans just like to call people by what they see, if you look Chinese even though you might be Dominican they are gonna call you El chino, even your own family and friends if you very dark they are gonna nickname you negro, negra or Moreno or morena. If they know where you come from they are gonna call you by your country’s name, El español, el americano, el gringo, el peruano, etc. only our brothers from Haiti are the ones that feel offended when we call them El Haitiano, and see it as discriminating. That’s why most Dominicans when referring to Haitians they refer to them as los extranjeros. They will call you la rubia no matter what your skin color is if you color your hair blonde. But it doesn’t mean that they are discriminating in any ways.
That question: If Dominicans are racist?, you will not find a conclusive or definitive answer, We have the greatest variety of races, we grew up in schools with people of all skin tones, if you notice it in the people you interview. Here people are not persecuted because of the color of their skin, other reasons of a political nature, if there has been jealousy with the Haitians for historical reasons, luckily a minority do not see Haitians as friends, but they have made great contributions with their jobs to the country. At the end of the day we understand each other and agree. What there are many International Organizations that receive funds and live by saying that we are a racist country, those issues were not important to Dominicans only now.

We aren’t racist. We don’t judge color. And in the same moment will call someone mayate without blinking an eye. Racism runs rampant here. But there is always an excuse for it. You can go out and try to go to a club. But nobody will let you in if you’re dark. But “it’s not because of your color”. It’s cause. You didn’t have the right clothes or any other excuse. And yet nobody except for people working in there will be darker skinned. The entire clientele will be white/light. But remember. We are all “hermanos”. 😂

No generalizar.

It is more self hatred than actual racism. Dominicans don't like the black they see in themselves. And this gets reflected to people darker than themselves, which happens to also include Haitians.
Every country will have some type of discrimination. Colorism is a result of slavery and colonization. But if you have ever met Dominicans from the island, they are a loving, happy, hard working people. Most families have so many shades of skin in one family. Plus they like to laugh so they may poke fun at you for anything in a loving way. It is just some people are too self conscious. Many of the people that started talking about racism in DR have colorist ideology themselves. It is so ignorant. There are so many things to be proud of from this beautiful country in my opinion.
How many videos about this topic? Probably thousands. In the meantime, dominicans continue to work hard and make their country a better place. They are happy people enjoing their beautiful country.
Actions speak louder than words. Send a well dressed Haitian, a not so well dressed Haitian, a well dressed white Dominican, white foreigner, etc. to the same places and document people's response. You'll discover that people everywhere (in and outside the DR) are xenophobic, racist, and classist. Of course, there will be many who will pleasantly surprise us as we also have our stereotypes.
The guy speaking at 4:09 made exactly the point. History shows Haiti invaded Dominican Republic in 1822 trying to help themselves get out of a debt imposed by France on Haiti after the latter’s independence in 1804. All the Dominicans from back then did was to reclaim our sovereignty and independence . Too many Haitians in Dom. Rep. is reminiscent of that conflict, but at the same time we are very philanthropic with them
let me tell you something about Dominican society. The first colony of the Spanish Empire in the 15th century was what is today the Dominican Republic and the first time that Spain brought slaves was in 1503 (the black part of Dominican society does not come from Haiti) when Spain discovered the immensity of the American continent it practically abandoned the island of Hispaniola to its fate, leaving the Creoles, mulattoes and slaves on the island. There was a lot of poverty and the only way to get out of it was through trade between the different peoples of the island. Later there was a great deal of miscegenation among all of them. It is important to emphasize this because in the Spanish colony the one drop rule did not exist and interracial marriage was allowed. Dominicans have literally been marrying different ethnicities and races for more than 400 years, in the 20th century this was prohibited in the USA, in 1606 the devastations of Osorio happened and there was a demonstration against this measure and it was practically the first recorded protest by the creoles of the island who had already been mixing what was created for more than a century was the sentiment of protecting the land where you were born, in 1621 it was the first time that the Spanish crown used the term Dominican, practically referring to the Creole people of the island of Hispaniola, which was made up of the descendants of the Spaniards who stayed on the island, the few Tainos who survived and the blacks. The problem with African Americans is that they want to extrapolate the reality experienced in the English colonies, such as the One Drop Rule and the prohibition of marriage between races, apartheid , to the entire world. They think that this was the reality everywhere. There was certainly slavery in Spain, but it was very different from the English and French colonies. In short, Dominican society is united by the culture and the land that saw it born, and that is what has created its identity as a society.
As a dominican and i can say that i have never felt racism or been racist to no one or against racist! and that guy saying that some one aske him to give them the product instead of the girl is sus to me!
It's a shame humans still have this internal hatred for its own kind...due to to lack true LOVE, which comes from knowing the True CHRIST....this is the #1 disease in all the world!!

That's because most Dominicans aren't racist and have never been racist. Most of the ppl who answered didn't even define the situations as being racist. They expressed prejudice and classism. Racism is based solely on feeling superior to someone due to skin tone, which none of them expressed or described in the situations they mentioned.

Yes, I thought that too when I heard some people's answers, they piled together alot of different concepts
8:30 DR is most integrated country for white folks, ppl with straight hair, near white ppl but not black ppl. All black are almost consider haitian. This is a country that want to be called "so muuucchh" a MULATTO country" that they are more open to white or ppl of color.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience, I agree 💯%

There is racism everywhere in the world cuz that’s human innate mentality before reaching wisdom and knowledge of who we really are: We are the same specie. However, here in the DR we experience more classism. That’s because everyone excluding the 13 % white and the 8% black almost everyone is mulatto or mixed: Due to the immigration of Spanish, English, French, Arabic, Polish Buccaneers and Pirates. Therefore, people with a higher quality of life think of themselves as better, no matter the color of skin.

The answer is yes
