Yeah I think any serious modern scholar of shooting technique knows that squaring up to the rim is an actively harmful myth. I have started to have a huge turn on my jumper the past couple years after being taught 10 toes to the rim and it feels so much more natural. Shooting without tension in your body just feels amazing, and is way more effective.
Hey dude, can we get a Durant/Ingram workout? You mentioned this like half a year ago but never really did it. I know there are many tall lanky kids who are forwards like me, and we would really appreciate to learn your take on how such lethal scorer’s on all levels do their thing, and emulate it. Also great vid!
I’ve watched many breakdowns of this jumper, Yours is by far the best. I love the way you explain science & anatomy of why it works… I was wondering what you think of Dame’s off hand? His guide hand is positioned quite a bit further than say Trae or Steph.. Which I would imagine would minimize thumbing the ball? Any thoughts are greatly app.. Great content!!
Out of all of these, I think the wrist flex is something truly paramount for me. I used to optimize the legs a lot for power but the knee bend was hard to stay consistent, so the control wasn't always there. Compensating with the wrist for both the extra power and stability in the lower body has made my deep jumpers a lot more in control.
Im really tired, i started playing basketball at about 11 years old, i play all by myself on the court, cant even join a kids pick up game. I started working on my shot but i cant seem to find the perfect form for me i always miss shots so i relied on my speed and finishing ability until i reached 13 yrs old entering highschool was really tough. I didnt make the varsity team and coach decided to show my talent at a really small league, i was done for, i was the shortest on the court and scored only 2 points the entire league. I was surprised we made the finals but i was benched and didnt had the chance to play atleast for 1 minute. We lost and i was really disappointed in myself until now. Last year i tried out again for the varsity team and didnt make it again i was complete trash everyone was laughing at me i had nothing left in me but something is really pushing me to keep trying. Im from the philippines and my dream is to be the first nba player with pure filipino blood it seems impossible. And now im 15 standing at 5'7 still short for an average i improved but im still far away. Right now i think im losing hope I failed making the varsity team twice Got benched Im the shortest Now even my family is doubting me No true friends I keep receiving hate and doubt I achieved alot this year but its still far from my dream Now i think i reached rock bottom Im on a 20 game lose streak losing money and everything. Everyone is doubting me teasing me because of my failure. Im really tired mentally, spiritually and physically, Please coach help me... I really love this game and i believe i can make it but right now im starting to black out losing hope and motivation to keep going like its the only way to escape reality Its deep in my soul its my passion and i love it
don't lose hope im an asian baller too. its all heart over everything. plus in this era of basketball you don't need to be a biggest guy on court to be the best. look at all those 3 point shooters in the league today. a lot of them are guards aka the small man of the team. as for myself i prioritze my shooting/ floaters to maximize my potential in court cuz i don't do that well on paint. all it takes is your heart keep on grinding. i haven't played throughout winter but im thinking of getting my body back in basketball shape over the summer break. anyways good luck!
Wow! I’m surprised by how good your functional biomechanics knowledge is considering it doesn’t really seem like the focus of your channel. Have you read the book ‘anatomy trains’ by any chance? Seems like you are using similar ideas. Or have you picked this stuff up more from track and field coaches?
Would be nice if you could do a vid about knee valgus / knees caving in / internal rotation in the game of basketball. Because in other sports its not usually a good thing. Would love your insight about it🙏🏼
He is crazy strong in the upper body, check out his IG, he posted some super intense workout videos where he seemed a lot buffer and stronger than before. That was right before the bubble started.
@@dihanmustakeem4089 Bro nothing he did was impressive. Those are things you would be able to do if you dedicated yourself to bodybuilding for a few years. There's a reason he's a nba player and not a bodybuilder. He's not built like one and he doesn't work like one either. Atleast 80% of the nba are probably physically stronger than him.
@@Black-vi3zg I disagree with the 80% comment. He's pulling up without losing form. That takes strength. Sure he ain't Giannis or Bron or Kawhi or Steven Adams in terms of strength, but his upper body strength is crazy.
I agree with the whole video as always but that point made in the end that Klay’s jumper isn’t meant for shooting from deep ranges seems false to me. He still shoots 5-7 feet easily behind the 3pt from wings & the top of the key. However his staple is the catch & shoot corners, since they’re considered the most efficient & shortest of all 3s !....
I was always taught to align my feet towards the net but it always felt awkward. I now have my feet slightly slanted like Dame and my shooting is more accurate and I can shoot further out from the three.
Another really weird thing about Dames shot is his fingertips almost always come off of the ball when he gets to his set point then he kid of rolls the ball to his fingertips as he shoots. Idk what that does but I guess it works for him
Agree with all of the keys here to shooting, but I still personally don't understand what makes Dame have such incredible range compared to most other NBA guys, as most even decent NBA shooters do the things mentioned in this video but don't have Dame's range.
This is all true but you missed the biggest difference with dame vs other shooters from deep . The ball is so far back on his palm that he slaps his fingers against the ball as he flicks giving him extra power
Normally my man has fire takes but valgus is certainly bad. Let me put it this way, valgus by itself is not inherently bad, but the poor form makes it very easy to put unneeded stress on the knee. Look it up and you'll see a lot of knee injuries are the result of knee valgus
It’s pretty bad if you weight squat with Knee Valgus, it can cause some pain. I’m not too sure of the use in the jump shot though , he said it helps activates the glutes which appears to keep his mid section stable on the jumping part of the shot . But another way to activate the glutes is to kind of stand straight squeeze your butt .
I've begun moving my trash can increasingly far from my chair, even putting an NBA logo on my floor. Been watching too much Lillard. It's all in the arc.
Can you lease make a video about how to shoot deep for cross eye dominant players because I am cross eye dominant and i find it very hard to shoot from deep as i have to move the ball to my left side by a little on my shot.
@@ByAnyMeansBasketball word 💯. I just mean these NBA players are a lot stronger than we realise. If you see Drose he'd have a wider frame than we'd have imagined.

Glutes support external rotation. Normally knee valgus indicates weak or poorly activated glutes due to excessive internal rotation. I'd be really interested to hear how internal rotation activates the glutes. I feel like I get what more power focusing on external rotation, as you should do in a good squat pattern.
Can someone help me out with why internal rotation of the hip is a good thing on the shot, or how it would help the glutes activate? Knee valgus is how many people tear their ACL, and other ligaments of the knee.
The glutes are diagonally oriented, so internal rotation is a natural way that many athletes load their glutes eccentrically. It’s not going to give THAT much of a benefit and I would never train a player to do it, but it doesn’t hurt and happens naturally with many players. Not enough force to injure a player, and internal rotation doesn’t = knee valgus
Klay has shot from the logo a bunch of times. He just chooses not to. He's a catch and shooter. They're not going to set off ball screens for Klay at the half court line.
