I remember been watching a live transmission of a SpaceX launch when a UFO appeared in the feed, some seconds later the transmission switched to a CGI graph, and the hosts were clearly uneasy. It's obvious that SpaceX need to deal with not only those live transmissions, but by doing launches for the military, they are required to be prepared.

If it had been a piece of the meteor that had broken off, air resistance would have affected it differently, and it would not have been keeping pace with the meteor, rather trailing behind it on a not-quite-parallel trajectory.

I've actually seen these meteor things myself. At last...I've done something that resembles what others have seen. There's nothing unusual to see a few "companion" objects falling alongside a meteor. Or that little second piece might be an internal lens reflection.

I wondered if that might be the case (lens flare), but it is common for meteors to break up when they hit the atmosphere.
