Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. Nice reaction. These girls are totally legit. The lead guitar, Kanami, writes the songs and develops them in a way that gets maximum creative input from the others. The rhythm guitar/second vocal, Miku, usually writes the lyrics and develops the vocals along with the lead vocalist. The drummer and bass player are monsters at their craft. They have a lot of variety in their music. Welcome to Band-Maid. They changed my whole thoughts about music, they are TRUE musicians with a lot of talent... Writing their own songs, formed naturally, grew together as best friends and really care a lot about their fanbase. They even get emotional on stage and missed everyone during COVID, real passion! There are a lot of songs to choose from over 120 and everyone is a winner!
But i would suggest some LIVE stuff, because that is their true strength: Domination, Real Existence f.e. Greetings from Germany!

Band Maid have been together for nearly ten years. They have a varied musical genres but really Rock is where they tend to settle in. They are very accomplished and stylish musicians. They write their own stuff now and 'influencer' is a great newer track. Both a self parody as they will use social media as influence. Without TH-cam following they would probably no longer exist. Popular in the West more than in Japan ironically. They are the real thing.

Thanks for the nice reaction, Brandy! I think you'll like Band-Maid: they'll throw in a little bit of metal, punk, ballad, prog, acoustic, you name it, but they always rock. And I swear to God, it will seem to you like they only write hits. BTW, the main lyricist is the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist (Miku Kobato), who does a lot of social media and very much understands the double-edged nature of that world. There is a bilingual fan (Flugelhorn) who notes some puns, e.g. Chit-chat" sounds like "chicchai" in Japanese ("trivial, frivolous"), and "hunky-dory" (a stilted platitude for westerners) sounds like "serious filming or recording" . (Hopefully, he'll chime in, it's pretty interesting.) As for the next one to try out it hardly matters, but you might enjoy the next one -- Unleash!!!!!.

Many BABYMETAL fans are fans of Band-Maid, too. So am I 😄. This song was played in 11 shows in their US tour (13 concerts + 1 festival) that ended on Nov.1 in Chicago.😍 (They played at Irving Plaza in your city, NY on Oct.28.) This MV was filmed at a famous and old stone quarry (Ishikiri-Sanmyaku) located in Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo. Kanami, the lead guitarist, was very scared when she stood near the brink of the cliff but she could defy the fear once cameras started to capture her playing scene. [source : Gekirock News]. Saiki is singing "Hunky Dory" repeatedly. It sounds to me, an aged Japanese, a kind of word play or pun. This phrase is very close to Japanese expression "Honki (本気) Dori (or Tori 撮り)" that means 「本気」= serious, earnest, sincere" and 「撮り」= filming, recording, image capturing". This is cynically suitable 😄 to what influencers do, isn't it? In the rap part Saiki is also singing "Always that one-upping contest, chit-chat chit-chat". "Chit-chat" sounds like "chicchai ちっちゃい" in Japanese. That means "tiny, trivial, frivolous, worthless etc." Miku's lyrics includes a lot of word play and Miku admitted she did it on purpose in an interview [source : Spice Oct.7]. "Influencer" was premiered (live debut) on Sep.7 at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo in Band-Maid's pre-US concert. Just so you know, I witnessed it at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿. Thanks again from Japan.

Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual solo.
Next, you have to listen to them live. They are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio.

This band is the best band on the planet. They write their own music and are incredible players. Baby metal doesn't even come close.
This is the latest release from the maids, and a great, catchy & clever song. I recommend that you go back to the beginning. “Thrill” is their first song/music video released and is a good start, Then “Freedom”, “Don’t Let me Down”, “Play” among others. Band Maid is an amazing group, the best hard rock band going.

The American rock scene has been in a sad state lately. I almost became an Ed Sheehan Stan. Then about a year ago I discovered Band Maid because of the movie "Kate" (if you haven't seen it, it's awesome). So now my love of rock music has returned. Band Maid is underrated i think mainly because of the language barrier but that doesn't matter much to me. They are real rock geniuses.
Location is a decommissioned granite quarry in the Ishikiri Mountains, Ibaraki from 1909 era that produces the "Inada" stone or "white lady" stone because of its white luster, strong and durable, like Band Maid, Po! Also, Japanese origin - "Honcho-dori" was the "Main Street" in Yokohama (same area Band Maid had their 2021 Christmas concert). Story say the American sailors, during the late 1800, were directed to follow this road back to the ship. Therefore, "easy street" to get back to the ship after liberty. Most likely pronounced by the sailors as "Hunky Dory." Btw, check out the lyrics, its on point about the influencing culture, Po!

I saw them at a small venue in Phoenix, Arizona Oct 19th, only 500 people. You could feel the love between the band and their fans. If they ever play close to where you are DON’T MISS THEM. It was great that my daughter shared the fun with me. One of my favorite all time concert experiences.

It's simple: if you enjoy hard rock, you'll amost certainly enjoy BAND-MAID. Most of us think they're the best in the world at what they do, but obviously we're biased. Don't just trust us, let them prove it. They always do. Just understand going in that they're not just cutesy gimmick pop idols with the occasional catchy tune. No, no, they're the Big Bad Wolves in maid outfits of the future, ready with particle beams to melt your face off! And... and... you know I may have gotten carried away with this metaphor. :)
I love it either way!
You'll find that they have a certain magic that just makes you happy. They're amazing musicians writing incredibly complex songs and they work their tails off. They've improved leaps and bounds over the years, and they kicked ass to begin with - to see an earlier Band-Maid, I recommend Real Existence Live, then work you way through their channel - because there are no bad choices and this is the fastest way you'll convince yourself of that fact. Go ahead - pick a song at random and listen to it...
Miku, the rythm guitarist, wrote the lyrics. In addition to being in this band, she's pretty big on TikTok.
Nemophila is another Japanese rock/metal band. All their songs are unique. Adabana is a good place to start. After that, Hypnosis is great, Seize the Fate is their newest. Style has a Rage Against the Machine vibe. Dissention, Revive, Raitei, and many more. Have fun!
The greatest rock band in the world! I just saw them live a few weeks ago in Chicago and they rocked! I suggest you check out some of their official live videos, "Domination", "Freedom", "Real Existence, "Play" and "Onset" are some of my favorites. MVs I recommend are "Alone", "Don't You Tell Me", " Glory", "Rinne" and "Unleash!!!", but you can't pick a bad one if it's by Band-Maid.

I watched the video to the very end and you said you were impressed. What's probably even more impressive (at least for me) even thought yes this a great song I probably wouldn't put this in my top 20 songs by them. That'd how amazingly great this extremely talented band is.

So Domination, Freedom, Play, Warning, Don't you tell ME - any of those live. Then there's another dozen after that, and 50 more after that 🙂
Their theme is based on Japanese maid cafes. The founder, Miku (rhythm guitarist, also lyricist, and second vocalist) worked in a maid cafe and wanted to combine their cuteness and cheerful customer relationship with hard rock. The lead guitar (and composer), bassist, and drummer are all professional musicians who have been playing instruments since they were children.
What next? Anything, but maybe "Blooming" (MV), "Domination" (Live), "Manners"/"Black Hole" .... and everything else.

Band-Maid concentrates mainly on Hard Rock and their live shows are very good. Let's just say that this band has depth: they occasionally do sweet love songs but they'll also perform instrumental tours-de-force. The Maids kick ass and take names.
Hard rock: 'Domination', 'Freedom'
Instrumentals: 'Onset', 'From Now On', 'Without Holding Back'. (oh, yes, they recorded a short cover of SlipKnot's 'Duality' - They Rock!)
Experimental: 'Black Hole', 'Giovanni', 'Giovanni (instrumental)'
Christmas music: 'Dawn Winery Theme" (an arrangement of 'Greensleeves' ) and they performed an acoustic Christmas concert.
Soft rock: 'About Us', 'Wonderland'
They've been recording albums for nine years and they just keep getting better. So just go to their TH-cam page and pick a few clips and I'm sure you'll find something you like. I'd swear they have more reaction videos than any other band on the planet.

I mean Miku (girl with red rose) wrote the lyrics most probably because she feels obligated by the record label to do the influencer things. So, she's not specifically attacking full-time content creators. I think she was just exhausted by all the stuff she needs to do sometimes.
I think Miku lives for this stuff. ... And I'm pretty sure this one was written with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

I a recent interview Miku explained that the idea was from Saiki and was about all the females on social media and some of the problems that was causing them.
Oh I didnt take this as an attack at all, I more spoke on how people in the spotlight feel that society puts such pressure on them to always be perfect and that I relate to her a lot! Im applauding her for talking about this!

Just watch any of the Offical Live Video and you'll understand why they are from a different league.

This song needs the lyrics to bring out the best. Not their best song, not even close. Kind of high bar. If you want their best rock songs, then take a look at Manners, after life, rinne, moratorium, real existence and way more. I saw them in Phoenix and they are epic live. If you like the jrock scene, take a look at aldious, nemophila or lovebites. I don't know how they teach music in Japan, but there are loads of japanese women that rock.
Hard rock band, not metal. They're really fun and funny (if you ever catch them live).
