  • Josefina Vilajosana is 70 years old and is a farmer and ceramics artist. She was born at can Gener de Tòlics in Gargallà (Berguedà), a 13th century farmhouse, and grew up among woods, fields and livestock. She wanted to make pottery, but she had to wait until she was 18 to learn the trade, without leaving her job as a peasant farmer. With her Seat 600 car she travelled everywhere to learn the technique and then dedicated herself to teaching it to the young and old in Montmajor until she started modelling her first mushrooms. Now, for forty years, she has mastered the shape, colour and texture of this and other iconic farmhouse objects and foods. She was the driving force behind the creation of the Montmajor Mushroom Art Museum in 2003, which has a whole collection created by her. She has held exhibitions all over the place and says that what she enjoys most is to see that the spectator enjoys with what she does and learns about the culture of mushrooms.
She says that she is an example of an old-times farmer woman, but in modern times, she takes care of the house, the cooking and the animals and complements it with long afternoons in her studio, a space that makes her feel fulfilled and satisfied.
We would like to dedicate this documentary to all rural women on the occasion of International Women's Day.
