@@ifyourmarriedyourasimpandacuck that's just not how it works. i know how most redstone components work (don't know locked repeaters work) but i still don't understand most contraptions. redstone isn't just as simple as knowing what every component does. there are some very unintuitive parts of redstone where you just kinda have to learn what the circuit does and when to use it.

For those on bedrock, you're likely noticing the bottom piston isn't moving. TL;DR: you need another redstone torch and wire for the bottom, behind the lever block and repeater.
Block orientation is hard to explain in text so for those who need more instruction:
-To start, make sure you're positioned facing the lever you placed on the block that has the redstone torch on top of it and the repeater attached to the right side.
-Now dig out the block behind it and the block behind the repeater.
-Now attach a redstone torch to the opposite side of the block with the lever. It must be attached to the block, not the floor.
-Connect a single redstone wire to this torch by placing it in the space you dug out behind the repeater.
-Fill in the rest of the tunnel with blocks as shown in the video.
The bottom piston should now be functional.

That's what I'm trying to figure out too, I might just have to make another hidden door on the opposite side of the base that let's you out, but that sounds way too inconvenient, I think it might just be a way to reverse the switch onto the other side so it doesn't stay open or closed. Or use buttons and make a delay

Run some redstone wire from the block you attached the first button/lever to and connect it to a second button on the inside. Make sure it doesn't make contact with any other redstone in the build.
I ran it to the second block on the floor before the pistons that hold the wall blocks and put a pressure plate on it. That way you can just walk out like an automatic door.
Don't place a pressure plate on the floor block right before the piston though, move it one block back so that it doesn't make contact with the piston, otherwise the bottom piston will not retract because the pressure plate will keep it powered on.

Thank you all for the button idea. New to redstone builds, but I was able to place buttons and a redstone trail to open and close the door from outside and inside. I also used 2-3 repeaters to slow down the time-frame so I can get to the door in time.

If you can do this in 30 seconds, there's another design that requires even less redstone that could probably take you about 15 seconds.
Just build half of the traditional jeb door that's in the minecraft redstone guide book.

So even though darkseany made a better fix for the bottom piston, if you don’t get what he’s saying I have an easier version of that, just make some redstone connecting to the piston when it’s at the door to the redstone that is used for the top piston, then after connecting the two, put one redstone to the top left and it should make the bottom piston work, sorry if you don’t get it, it’s easier shown then told in text

everyone in the comments asking how to open from the otherside, ill try my best to make a quick tutorial for you
First you want to finish making the 2X1 piston door
then go back to your lever and destroy the block under it
going away from the door place a trail of redstone thats heading towards the back of the door (should look like an L from above)
then simply place a button at the end of your redstone and voila
if you cannot get out by time the signal ends replace a straight part of redstone with 1-2 repeaters on the slowest setting

You don't need it between. Just attach another redstone torch to the other side of the block with the lever, and connect it to one redstone wire directly behind the repeater
