Hi, this is Marty from MistKing. Great video ! However the oring does not go against the nut. It goes on the outside of the reservoir against the non movable part of the bulkhead, the nut just compresses it to make it water tight. The way in the video you could have a leak through the thread. Bulkhead is metal and it squeezes very hard so you may have gotten lucky in this case, but it's probably the solid part squeezing against the bucket that's preventing the leak. Easy to remember - oring not against the nut :)
theoretically you could do this without an o-ring and just squeeze the bucket hard enough to make it watertight. Metal bulkhead is one of the differences going from older ver4 to ver5. We are running out of things to improve LOL
Btw, another obscure reason to love Mist King - the screw threads for the mister stem go all the way up to the top. This allows enough room for your nozzles to be installed on higher end enclosures that have thicker top panels. Something as simple as that has made a huge difference for me.
thank you for ncluding the filter!! i’ve been using the mistking for over a year and there wasn’t any instructions on the filter so i never put it in and i was looking at all my pieces the other day bc im going to add another tank onto my system and i realized i had the filter and i was like “oh this is a filter… i should probably use that to be extra sure the water is good” but nowhere said how to install it so THANK YOU!!
I love my mist king set up. For the reservoir I got a clear plastic cereal bin from wal mart. $8 & holds 2 gallons has a hinged lid, heates via fish heater. Perfect for my frills needs. Just came across this channel. Totally subscribed & binged everything!!
Bill thank you for this video. Mistikings instructions are very limited and this assist me. Now if only I can find the property way to install my zip drip!
I just read the manual and the O-ring goes on the outside of the reservoir container. They also say to hand tighten and then use a wrench to gently turn half a rotation, that should be sufficent and the O-ring should have a small marked compression. Also says not to use a scissor or other tool, that squeeze the tube before cutting it.
I know what you mean. This is the hardest part! But if you can just get over this hurdle you will love the product. It is so much better than anything else on the market that it is worth the trouble to make the water reservoir.

@@shannons8394 good luck! And go with the blessing of all the chameleon ancestors! Making the hole is the hardest part only because it takes the right tool. Just spend the money and get the right drill bit. My first time (oh so long ago) I tried to carve out the hole with an Xacto knife. It was…comical.
Hi: I think the rubber -O- ring for the bulkhead goes on the outside of the reservoir. Thank you for showing the filter installation, the instructions for the filter are not included in the manual. I am going to install an inline ice maker filter from the pump output to the nozzles, instead of using distilled water, and just use tap water, lets see how that goes.. I just got this system for two snakes from the Amazon that require high humidity. It is not going to be controlled by the timer, but a humidity sensor setup. I was using a modified humidifier and a fogger. I hope this system works a little better, they are in larger enclosures 3' by 2' by 3', so more moisture is required.. Always something with keeping reptiles.
Bill thanks again. I have a ultimate still in the box. I will be setting my up once I move my panther chameleon to an exo terra medium high tank in a few months. I received my panther from Kammerflage Kreations. I listed to the podcast where you were talking with Ed. I had the please of speaking with Ed before he sent me out my Panther. One thing he did mention to me that I was unaware of is Rapashi Calcium plus LoD can be used daily. I just received my supplement bottle today and it’s for daily use. So glad he informed me. On to a different topic. As a VO enthusiast it is obvious you have done radio and VO. You to have some resemblance to Casey Kasem when you talk. Thanks again to another great video.
There are a number of different supplementation regimens. I go with a minimalistic approach of plain calcium every feeding, solid UVB@UVI 3 for D3, and Repashy Calcium Plus LoD once every other week. That said, I always say to do what your breeder says and and Ed has used his regimen successfully for longer than most so you are in good hands there!
@@ChameleonAcademy I appreciate you. I have owned panthers in the past but we are talking 2012 so I know many of the things I know are obsolete and many things haven’t changed. I prefer the simplistic approach as well especially setting up the enclosure. In my humble opinion setting up a proper panther chameleon tank that puts the panther chameleon healthy as husbandry requirements first is of the utmost importance. I’m seeing people create bio active terrains and I feel that creates a dual interest between the reptile and the fauna. So I am not s huge.
@@inspectorgadget346 while a bioactive setup and an adult panther usually end up being two hobbies in the same cage, we have been finding enormous benefit and success with keeping some of the rarer smaller chameleon and raising babies in bioactive environments. So bioactive, like just about every other aspect of our husbandry, ends up being a tool that, in the right circumstances, can be the optimal approach.
haven't used the mistking in awhile... got a new chameleon... I hear it "working" but it barely drips; could you assist me with what I need to do to get it misting again? Thank you in advance.
Yes you can but the junk in the tap water will clog the nozzles. I have only used distilled water for the misters & spring water for everything else. Never a issue. Good luck homie!

I have gotten many Mist King boxes and I got a sentiment filter in only one. It must be something they put in certain versions or during certain times. I do not know what is up with that.

Can I use tap water since there is a filter?
Yes you can but the junk in the tap water will clog the nozzles. I have only used distilled water for the misters & spring water for everything else. Never a issue. Good luck homie!

Look into getting an RO unit yourself and make your own RO water. It pays for it self pretty quickly!
