- On April 10, 2024, Avi Wigderson, Herbert H. Maass Professor in the Institute for Advanced Study’s School of Mathematics, was named by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as the recipient of the 2023 ACM A.M. Turing Award, often referred to as the "Nobel Prize of Computing."
The Turing award recognizes Wigderson’s foundational contributions to the theory of computation, which include reshaping understanding of the role of randomness in computation, and decades of intellectual leadership in theoretical computer science.
With this honor, Wigderson has become the first person to receive both a Turing Award and the Abel Prize, widely considered to be the highest recognition for lifetime achievement in mathematics.
In this video, Wigderson is interviewed by IAS Director and Leon Levy Professor David Nirenberg. The pair discuss Wigderson’s path into computer science and the importance of scholarly community both at IAS and beyond.

Avi, the field of theoretical computer science is lucky that you have chosen it...
Avi's foundational work will continue inspiring generations of young theoretical computer scientists!!!
Out of the blue, it's wonderful to come across this humane scientist and gentleman!
Congratulations to sir Avi Wigderson.
I also want to study at this Institute.
I did my masters in math and computing 5 years ago. But due to some reasons I didn't do any mathematics for 5 years. Now I am back to mathematics. But i don't know if I will ever be able to reach here. Already 30 yrs old.
Maybe if you network it will happen. Good luck! This field is always inspiring!
I believe in you. you should try !
Congratulations sir🎉🎉
congratulations
So sad I didn't realised during my own CS studies how beautiful theoretical CS can be .
Found it rather boring and more like working with a cassette tape and pencil
Thank you so much Professor Wigderson for Math+Computation book
