I bought this model to record my senior year in 2001-02 and it worked great. I've actually reacquired it (for $33 bucks on eBay!) to help digitize family video tapes. Never thought about turning the viewfinder around to "vlogging mode" before - nice suggestion!
I have a Sony Handycam CCD TRV 608 Hi8 Camcorder, I got it in 2002 when I was 9 years old, and at that moment it was the most wonderful thing in the world, I literally recorded everything I did, I have a bunch of tapes with all my life in them. Nowdays it still working perfectly, but it has to be pluged in to the wall because the battery is dead, so I don't use it to take shots anymore, but I still using it to play back the tapes I already have. Recently I bought a brand new Sony 4K camera, wich of course is superior in all aspects, but is not the same feeling that when you take a shot for the first time, rewind the tape and watch it in your TV, it was absolutely indescribable.
I have very similar experience, but I had VHS-C camcorder when I was 9 in 1999 :) Great memories... I had in that time maybe 2 45-min tapes (they were expensive), so I had to choose what to record instead of recording everything around (wchich I probably did anyway ;) ). Good thing was, you can copy this tapes from the camcorder to standard full-size VHS tapes that were longer (120-240mins), and then reuse it. I have modern Sony 4K camcorder now, and digitalized most of my old tapes.
This is a very professional video doing real credit to an old epic format.. I have rather a big collection of these style units (as you can see from my channel) including a unit I had back in 1998 and now own one again and love it. Well done on the video again, very nice work :)
Very awesome video what kinda charger do you have for it gotta find one I was cleaning out my basement and found a this sony handycam and I want to see what's on the tape but you said I would also need an special adapter to hook it up to my computer
I found one today ata pawn shop for $200 brand new in the bos even came with 5 tapes brand nes sealed but the battery was missing....on amazom I can find it for $30 but I was interested about the NV. Thanks GREAT VIDEO
I have a CCD trv68 I barely use with other hi8 cams. The eject button is hard to find but it has very bright exposure with lamp built-in 460 zoom.one of the best camcorders in the world for year 2020 . very robotic and vintage.hi8 was never a popular cam for consumers and they hardly ever sell from beginning till this day
I had one of those sony TRV models I can't remember which one exactly but, I know that it was the first one with a touchscreen feature, I had it for a year and it was stolen. time and technology changed and i forgot about all the hi 8 tapes that I had in storage, I know what I am looking for has been more than likely discontinued by sony, however, I would still like to revisit my old family footage, any suggestions on a low cost hi 8 camera .
I know this was uploaded a few years ago, but I am working on a special project for my fiance's 30th birthday, and I cannot for the LIFE of me, figure out how to play footage on this camera! Could you possibly help me out?
How i can put new data in hi8 tapes.. i have new hi8 tapes and the player i would like to put videos or films in the hi8 tape...how im supost to do it??
I have one the same but when I turn it on it records and you can hear everything but the screen is black I cannot see nothing and there is nothing covering the front of the Camara do you know how can I fix it
How did you export the footage on this camera ? Did you use FireWire an extension cables or use the side panel a/v video out and a video out plugs ? Asking for a friend
Hi bro, can you help me, I'm a little confused about the problem when I start recording, and pausing in another place or I stop, and what if I continue to record it somewhere else? will the results in the footage be integrated into one long video, or separate videos? Thanks for the explanation :)
If you don't rewind or fast forward to where you stopped recording, you'll either record over what you already recorded or you'll have a blank gap between when your last recording stopped and when your new recording starts.
I’m trying to move my recorded tapes to my lap top so that I can up load tp you tube or burn DVD. Problem I’m having is once I move recordings to lap top and play back the film speed is playing back at a faster speed. I can’t locate the recording speed of the camcorder Hope you can help.
I recently just bought this camcorder for my dad cause we have a whole bunch of old Hi8 tapes. However when I play my Hi8 tapes, i get a black static screen. When I got the camcorder there was an Hi8 tape already in it talking about warranty and stuff and that worked perfect. Even 8mm worked on this. Is there anyone who can help me figure out why my Hi8 don’t work?
There are 3 video recording formats that all can be recorded to the same 8mm Hi8 cassette, these are: Video8, Hi8, and Digital8. Video8 cameras can only PLAY tapes recorded in the video8 format, Hi8 cameras can play tapes recorded in the Video8 or Hi8 formats, Digital8 cameras can generally only playback tapes recorded in the Digital8 format though there were quite a few models of Digital8 cameras that could play tapes in all 3 formats. I would guess your tapes were recorded in the Digital8 format. Even if the cassettes say Hi8 or 8mm on them all of the tapes for each format were all physically identical and could be used in a Digital8 camera.

Totally agree. It's a feeling the modern generation will never get to experience.

What cord did you use to concrete camera to the TV? I lost mine amd can't find any that work
Camera has a normal, full size S-Video port on the side. I used that to connect it. S-Video cables are readily available on Amazon.
@griffensander mine has s video and for av cord. Got one off Amazon but doesn't work on my tv. The av one. I'll try svideo thanks
Can I put a fisheye lens on that model? & which brand would fit?
I have that one
I have the same exact camera, but when I put in record mode the screen is just black. Do you know how to fix it?

The eyepart is the same when I close the screen and look thru the eyepart the screen is black too
@@newtoyoutube9981 If you have the right cables, I'd suggest hooking it up to a TV. If that doesn't work, it's probably dead.
how did you get it on your Television at 2:17? thanks!
I have a cord that plugs into the camcorder in one end and a TV on the other. It came with the camcorder.
I have this same camera and am having troubles playing the audio through the capture card. Did you run into this issue at all?
I had no issues. Some cheaper capture cards can be flakey though.

This model doesn't have firewire. I had to connect the a/v output to a video capture card.
Griffen Sander which capture card would you recommend??
How do you change the lens on a sony ccd trv68 camera
You don't. The lens is built in and cannot be changed.
Would u say it has good camera quality?
For the time? Yes, it was one of the best you could get. By today's standards though it's downright terrible.
I just found this! Does the camera do 16x9?
Unfortunately, no. Only 4:3.
The TRV98 does 16:9. It's pretty much the same camera, just a step up.
