Crown is easily my favorite Corp, but to be so honest, this show ain’t it. At least not yet it isn’t, nothing really stands out except the decently hard brass lines after the opener
I’m a die hard crown fan and it pains me to see them this out of it as far as winning is concerned. The hornline is still awesome but the execution of their music choices has fallen off so much since the early to mid 2010s. There’s nothing to draw you in. And this is a show that has so much potential but they really have to make some changes in the writing sooner rather than later.
Looks like they are going to be good for another 5th place finish like 2014. It seems like all they are trying to do in the first two numbers is show just how fast they can play. There was no real melody to follow until the ballad. The 2nd half of the show was better til they got to the end. These are wonderful musicians , but the book is bad and show design is not encouraging. They executed it about as well as to be expected this early in the year. The solo trumpet player didn't do as well as I have heard him do previously . The first time I heard him play this part in rehearsal, it was beautiful. I do have to say that the battery was a pleasant surprise. They were quite good for this early in the season ! The guard seemed to hit most of their marks and added a lot to the show, visually. I have noticed a pattern here over the years. Any time that they pull out a lot of large props, their scores seem to be lower. It doesn't seem to be that way for Blue coats, SCV or even BD.
Did you notice the crowd going wild with multiple standing ovations. Yeah, neither did I. Seriously, who picks this music? And not just this corps. There is so much “art” there is very little “entertainment “.
So far, based on watching the Blue Devils and Carolina Crown on TH-cam, I would have to say that the Blue Devils play more notes than Carolina Crown and are slightly less boring. If you played both shows in reverse they would sound exactly the same. Neither one of them barely march. They just run from one spot to the other. I remember when the Cadets and the Cavaliers would get you on your feet just from their outstanding drill. Those days are a distant memory.
Boston's show is good (and they perform it well) but does not match the overall content complexity of this show. Crown is performing this content at a very high level. There is some work to be done, but what they are already doing is at a very high level.
I have to agree with @keithlee2291 💯 %. BAC show is fun but Crown show has a deeper intellectual, emotional, and asthetic meaning which is the definition of how General Effect is scored. The great news for Crown is the closer is not even close to being finished and they still have a lot of content to add to visual and music. Give their show 3 weeks and it will not look the same. I think them and BD will fight it out for the 1 or 2 spot this year. 😊
@@keithlee2291 I agree I just felt boston performed better tonight. They had a cleaner run imo but I still believe that crown will beat them in finals and be in competition for the top 3 while boston sits in 4th.

Carolina Crown's score was close to Blue Devils'. I know they're different judges and score differently but that's still pretty dang close

Honestly I agree. I absolutely love crown but this show doesn’t have the same sort of magic that last years did
