Thank you, Maestro. We had great time recording this piece. I just got a new cello shortly before recording that solo. The bittersweet melody of Cavatine seemed to match the character of my cello.
Reinecke is talked about a lot and dismissed, often by people who have never heard a note of his music. He was a very fine composer. The top flautists in the world have been playing and admiring his concerto for years.
Lovely but inconsequential, this is a work I was prepared to like and value much more than I did. Maybe I was expecting too much - another Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Korngold, or such - or even an opus comparable to Reinecke's fine symphonies or concerti. Everything's in place here, but it lacks a requisite emotional depth, or at least, connection. It seems somehow undernourished and lacking character, and its' charm seems pretentious. Perhaps his intent here just escaped me on first hearing; there is admittedly much to enjoy in this score.
As someone who is about to play this in concert, I feel like the recording does it no justice - the case with most classical pieces, in fact. With proper dynamics and bow usage, it’s a very lovely piece! It emulates conflicting emotions in my opinion.
Such gorgeous cello solo in the Cavatine! So beautifully written and wonderfully performed! Bravo! And many thanks for posting!

thanks! (by the way not quite sure when he composed it, but it was published in 1898.)
Thanks for the post but I find this interpretation lacks direction and musical intention. thumbs up anyway for posting a rarely played work.
+sebas forest You're welcome !
I agree - this recording is far from my favorite. It seems flat in my opinion, when this piece can be very much full of life (I’ve played it before)
