  • I test my Split Second kinetic log splitter against a Champion hydraulic log splitter to see how much faster the kinetic is.

    I like how thought out and well presented your videos are. Another good one. I still love my hydraulic with a four way wedge.

      Thanks Ray! I think about videos a long time before making them. Have a good week.

    I'm in the market for a splitter so this was a very big help to me. Thank you, sir! Also, I know this is a couple of years old so do you have any recommendations for a splitter today, 8/2023?

    I don’t own a splitter I’ve used a couple hydraulic ones but didn’t feel like they were any faster then an axe. I actually might get one of these kinetic splitters they seem to actually be a time saver!

      Yeah, if you are just splitting a little wood for yourself an axe or maul is as good. I had the harbor freight splitter which split both ways and it was pretty fast. It is good for a homeowner doing 2 or 3 cords a year.

    I have the same Champion splitter. It is definitely slow compaired to the kinetic.
    I have had it a year and so far it has split evening it's given and only 1 major issue I had was some nut cam off inside the ram... In the year I have had it I have split 53+ full cords with it so i can't complain.
    My idea is to drive my splitter into the ground before I go get my 3rd and finale splitter..
    thanks for the comparison..

      The Champion surprised me at how fast it was. It is a good looking splitter for the money. 53 cords in a year in pushing her pretty hard.

    Do these have a slipper clutch to not kill the kinrtic splitter if its in a bind?

    Is there any way you could do a video with the Kenetic splitter with a four way wedge and a six way wedge. There’s only one video on TH-cam that I found but it’s older one. I like to see how it does on hardwood with the four-way in six way. Thanks

      @TractorTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have any other wedges. It would probably handle a 4 way in most wood. I'm not sure if it would damage the rack. Check out the splitter wars videos to see how this splitter compare to splitters with a multiway wedge.

    Have you ever had the kinetic splitter kickback? I really like the speed of the kinetic splitter - It's not easy to go back to a slower machine after a 3 second cycle time - Enjoyed the comparison - have a great day Roger - cheers

      I've had a few pieces try to fly off but, you can usually see it happening and stop it. The ram goes out slower than it goes back. The top of the knife on the splitter is angled back to help keep wood from flying off. Have a good week!

    From using both here on our ranch, the kinetic splitters do not handle larger logs like the hydraulic. Someone this may not be a problem but there is nothing worse than something rated for 13” wood and can barley split 8” fresh logs. However our hydraulic is rated for 15” but I assure you it splits 20” logs. It’s great to be faster but sometimes old technology is still better. This is a great video for someone to watch and make a sound decision.

    I have a splitter very similar to the Champion, but from Northern Tools that I've had for 12-13 years. I will split anything I put in it but slow like the Champion. I think mine is a little faster though. I'm looking at a Super Splitter just to save some time and its more like waste hi so I'm not bending so much when operating it. I'm old and need a little help...... I noticed the Champion wheel/axle is right in the way of where you have to stand. Very nice video. Sure answered my questions.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the axle is right in the way on the champion. Most vertical horizontals are like that. The lay out of the Super Split will be more comfortable and is designed with production in mind in comparison to a vertical horizontal.

    I think your narrow side log table is upside down. Turn it over and you eliminate one issue

    Roger nice job on the comparison. I’ll take the kinetic I’m just not a fan of the horizontal/vertical splitters. Take care, Ben. #ogaoutdoors

      The vertical/ horizontal is a horrible design. I'm not sure why it is the most popular style. Have a good week!

    Hi Rodger!!😀😀
    What is the cost of your kinetic splitter? It seems to be as smooth as the super split.
    Great comparison video!!
    Take care buddy!!😀😀

    You have the log bracket on the operator side of the Champion installed incorrectly.

    Watching hydraulic splitters is painful after using a kinetic. You must have defeated the two hand operation to deploy the ram on the split second.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some hydraulic splitters are so slow I could take a nap waiting for them to do I cycle. Yes, I over road the safety.
