    I literally just turned fourteen, and I'm self taught...I tend to lean in more towards the crossing of manga/realism I guess? This is my first year taking art and I feel like I can finally dig deeper into your tutorials. Thanks for everything Mark! :D

    i like how you lightly colored with the colored pencil against the almost construction paper like surface because it gives you that sand papery effect that bone often has

    Out of every step-by-step video I love yours best! Number one it is not all sped up and number two you actually speak and detail it! I love the descriptions and the touch of humor in there! Keep it up man, it's awesome!

    Hi, I think your videos are great. My middle school art students are very successful using the guidelines. I cut paper squares instead of having them measure so they don't have to mess with rulers. We are currently having a Mark marathon until the end of school (20 days) so the videos with guidelines and narration are what I am showing. Thanks so much.

    markcrilley The indentation on the skull, to the right of the cheek bone on your drawing, is the area where muscles connect from the lower jaw to the head. If you look at a different picture of a skull, you'll see that the cheek bone area actually has a hole in it for the muscle to go through. If you place your hand on your own head, above and a little forward of your ear, and clench and relax your jaw, you can actually feel the muscle move.
    I have no idea where I learned that, except that it was probably on the History Channel, or the Discovery Channel. I'm one of those people who can remember weird trivial stuff, but not information I actually *need* to remember! ;)

    Drawing looks like it'd take 1 hour or so to make, but it took you a lot more. I sometimes draw something that looks like it took an hour but I actually had spent 4 on it or so... I tought I was too slow and that sometimes upset me. But looks like some things need time :) Thank you, Mark! Great video!

  • @shaneblack8766
    @shaneblack8766 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ridge isn't meant to protect the eye, it's there because just behind it sets a cavity were the larger facial muscles sit to move the jaw.
    But this is a great video. And you're an awesome teacher!

    I don't know if anyone said this but the ridges above the upper teeth where where the adult teeth set and grow when baby teeth where in use... that's why brushing your baby teeth is important cause they do have contact with the adult teeth in those channels (ridges) by the time out skull grows the channels become softened making them more like ridges! ^-^ hehe just so you know as info hehe

      Cause Im in the USA, and black paper is every where.
      Its likely though he is using canson mi-teintes which is why you can also see texture on the paper.

    Hey, I've been wondering this for a while: for all your drawings, before you start filming, do you sketch the picture out a bit roughly beforehand? I guess you would because you have those box-like guidelines a lot, but, like, how long do you study pictures and how much do you sketch out your own design before you actually turn on your camera, get another piece of paper, and draw the final picture? Is most of it on the spot or do you have it all figured out?

And i just wanna ask are you gonna be doing a video anytime soon about battledamaged backgrounds? Because that is the only thing im having trouble with at the moment, is like when a protagonist and antagonist fight i can never get craters right or proper scene of destriction like when some one is flung into a cliff and what not. Well any ways amazing art as per usual and i apologize about my horrid spelling.

    Nice job :) I like this video.

      It's quite insane how you created this. Just a little white pencil and white paint in that way makes it look like a photograph. Great job!
