- Stirling Castle is the grandest of Scotland's castles and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the country.250 feet above the plain on an extinct volcano.
No one can confirm when Stirling castle was first built, but references to it begin to appear in historical records of the early 12th Century. However, these records themselves refer to an earlier occupation of the site.
The Castle that stands today is recorded to have been built between 1370 and 1750 in various different stages by the numerous different occupants of the stronghold. The varied types of statues and stone carvings that are mounted around the castle walls and on display in the gardens have a wide diversity of sources.
Stirling's history is probably one of the most famous in the world, especially since the major motion picture 'Braveheart', starring Mel Gibson, was released. You can re-live the movie experience with staged battle scenarios as well as other historical reconstruction's laid on at the castle. These scenarios are on all through the summer months of the year as part of Stirling's tourist attractions.

@@SeeScotland If I went, I might say " forget the stupid people in America and stay there. One good thing, Heaven could look like Scotland. 😀
@@SeeScotland here is a good one... My family on my Dads side, is the cousin to King James VI of Scotland/ I of England. I look like King James and Robert the Bruce, then back to Charlemange, (Very strong resemblances). One morning I got off of work and was reading a book on Prince Charles Edward Stewart . I almost dropped the book when I seen a picture of him at age 15. He looked exactly like our daughter who was at the time 15 years old. I don't go crazy (like some do), on being related. But I was shocked at how they looked like each other ! She wants to go over to Sterling Castle and stand in front of Charles Edwards portrait with her glasses and hat off. To see if anyone notices the resemblance, ( she is a little
Stinker! 😀 ). IS IT POSSIBLE,
for cousins to have such a close resemblance between the centurys, without having a closer connection, other than cousin ? 😦❓
