did tou think of 2x extender? I think it would bring both noise levels and reach to r10 level at a cost of contrast reduction and more weight, but not so much weight as 200-800
@@GremHopkins I’d have to try it for myself to see. What I’ve heard is the 1.4 is great on a really good lens like an L-series, but not so much on cheaper lenses. I haven’t heard a lot of good things on the 2x concerning sharpness. If I could borrow either I’d certainly give it a shot though.
1:14 did u really have to bump the iso to 30,000 ??? And the shutter to 1/1200 ? Did the image come out noisy or clear from the r8 ? I know for sure the r8 will start showing noise past around 8000 iso, can u advis eplz ?...
@@dronetheworld4k67 Hello, looking back at the image I think it was either use those settings or miss the image. I could have went 1/1000 but to freeze a bird in flight I prefer 1/1250. Then I controlled the iso to get the best exposure. It was a little noisy, but nothing a little de-noise couldn't handle. Really the noise level isn't just hard set at a certain number. If you aren't trying to raise shadows and have good lighting you can get away with a lot higher iso than if you were trying to lift shadows.
@@BrentTouchstonethx but I still don't understand how u still shot at the same settings at 1:17 but with waaaay lower iso ? Was it different time of day or something ?!... Even with f8+ but during day iso can't possibly go that high from my experience !?? 😮
@@dronetheworld4k67 For eagles I usually go out at sunrise and stay until my shadows are shorter than I am, about 2-2.5 hours after sunrise. I shoot all my birds at a base 1/1250. My aperture stays wide open. If a bird is staying still on a branch I dial down the shutter. If it’s moving I use the ISO. That’s all I got. The settings are as I input them unless I made a typo, but I’m pretty good about double checking my video text.
@@Rupertcockapoo I have no doubts about the quality of that lens on the R8. The thing I’d be concerned with is the reach. 500mm is one of my favorite focal lengths for bigger critters but for birds you might find yourself wanting a little more.
Thanx for your review. But I think ISO is to high and this hard noise destruct picture. Film grain and pixel noise are not the same and with high ISO you lose a lot of colours and sharpness. Envy a little, about your variety of birds at your homeplace. Good luck and have more nice shots.
What’s your solution? If you’re shooting 1/1250 and faster to freeze action? I mean you’re welcome to your opinion but I have beautiful pictures taken at even higher ISO that have taken first place in photo competitions. It’s about light. Up to a point digital ISO grain looks just fine and adds sharpness. I mean it can run a picture if you’re lifting shadows or if the lighting wasn’t good quality to start. But you do you friend and I’ll do me. Thanks for the view and comment.
@@BrentTouchstone Sorry, if my comment was to much critical. Your photos looks really good, you made big work ,but in my everyday report shooting I torn between high iso and nice shadows. It can be nice on screen my Canon R6, but to noise in LR. All after 10 000 ISO. Looking for RF 100-400 reviews, because also have rf 2.0 extender (that didn't work with my rf 70-200)...and think that used EF 400 2.8 must be better choice.
The photos at 6:15 and 8:17 are brilliant photos. I really like them. Thanks for a great review and you good work.🙂
Thank you!!!

@ From what I saw on youtube people say ef extenders are not that great, while rf ones are quite a bit better
Great review and I love your photos. You have fabulous wildlife where you live. I’m saving for the R8 so it will be nice to follow your channel
Thank you! It’s a great camera. I ended up ordering the 200-800 I mention in this video. It’s on back order but I hope to have it soon.
Thank you for review, gave you a sub❤
Thanks :)

Are u doing a Video or photo of this Lens .. please be advised which mode to be used >>>I have a R10 ..
The Camera and lens are listed in the title of the video. Canon R8 / RF 100-400 5.6-8
Do you think the canon RF 100-500 mm will work well with the R8?

I have the R7 and that RF100-400, and i agree with everything you said.
I am sure you will have a lot of fun one day with the RF200-800! 😀
Cheers!

I am confused between 1:12 and 1:17 why did iso go from 30k iso !!!! To just 2000 iso ?!?! They both r f8 and 400 mm, what am I missing ?????
