Yeah, and what's so interesting is he never wanted to be a singer. He was a drummer. But when Peter Gabriel left the band they interviewed about 200 singers and didn't like any of them. Then one day Bill Bruford suggested that he (Collins) become the singer and Bruford agreed to drum for one concert tour until they could replace him full time. Fantastic arrangement. Man what a song. Love 80s Genesis. Has there been a composition like this since 1983?.....NOPE! Tony Banks man love his intros on the keyboards on Mama👍
I like his rig he had at the time. and was the last year he used then fairly vintage gear before switching to a much smaller rig on The Way We Walk tour with 2 or 3 digital keyboards.

Oh, I just can't keep away
In the heat and the steam of the city
Oh, it's got me running and I just can't brake
So say you'll help me, mama
'Cause it's getting so hard, oh-ooh
Now I can't keep you, mama
But I know you're always there
You listen, you teach me, mama
And I know inside you care
So get down, down here beside me
Oh, you ain't going nowhere
No, I won't hurt you, mama
But it's getting so hard, oh-oh, ahahahah!
Can't you see me here, mama?
Mama, mama, mama, please?
Can't you feel my heart?
Can't you feel my heart?
Can't you feel my heart? Oh-woah
Now listen to me, mama
Mama, mama
You're taking away my last chance!
Don't take it away
Can't you feel my heart? Ahahah, ahahah, oh
It's hot, too hot for me, mama
But I can hardly wait
My eyes, they're burning, mama
And I can feel my body shake
Ah, don't stop, don't stop me, mama
Oh, make the pain, make it go away
No, I won't hurt you, mama
But it's getting so hard, oh-ooh
Now I can't see you, mama
But I know you're always there
You taunt, you tease me, mama
But I never, never, never can keep away
It's the heat and the steam of the city
Oh, mama, got me running and I just can't brake
So stay, don't leave me, mama
'Cause it's getting so hard, oh
Don't go!
No, no, don't go!
D-d-don't go!
Don't go!
No, no, no, don't go!
Don't leave me here, don't go!
Don't go!
When these three are together you just get something very special, it’s just another world 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
I could not agree more with the previous comments one of the BEST bands of all time.
I cannot get enough of listening to this masterpiece.
Mr Thompson the drummer, all musicians and Phil Collins.
A gem!
Mama, it's unforgettable, 80's, the best decade of all time. Genesis (Phill Collins) eternally wonderful, brilliant.
I was 19 & woulda been MIND BLOWN to experience this beauty
Fantastic arrangement. Man what a song. Love 80s Genesis. Has there been a composition like this since 1983?.....NOPE! Tony Banks man love his intros on the keyboards on Mama👍
Yes, there was Dreaming while you sleep or No son of mine, for example
I've seen genesis 7 times. Back in 70s and 80s. Never seen him on own. What an awsome band
I like his rig he had at the time. and was the last year he used then fairly vintage gear before switching to a much smaller rig on The Way We Walk tour with 2 or 3 digital keyboards.
@@timonmessmer4085 not to forget Tonight tonight tonight^^
@@jaggass yes, although Tony’s rig did have an Emulator II, ($10,000’s worth of digital sample fun, but with analog filters)
My Dad used to blast this song every saturday. I was very small when the first time I heard this, and got scared of the sound of its intro and phil's laugh .. but now, this is always be my favorite
💙
This video answers the age old question: How does Genesis sound in a wind tunnel?
Answer: surprisingly good! 👍
Yeah esp live. Saw him live couple X's. Great great great!!! In mid/late 70's.
Better than a lot of bands *in studio*.
😂
You're not wrong it was weird, it was a sunny day, then it turned by the time these came on....Pink Floyd couldn't have their telescreen up as it was too windy. Brilliant day. And it cost me £10 to get in. A bit naughty as security snook me in. Right at the front too lol.

This is one hell of a masterpiece.
one of the greatest ever...from a time, when the world was in balance and happy... stay safe all out there ...greetings from Greece
way cool
Huh, yes in balance... When my homeland is fully crushed. And all of ours wishes and dreams was destroyed in one moment... Yeah, the world was happy... Somewhere but not on my land. There is nothing personal.
Well said, hope your are well.
@@stevemoss8101 Yeah, Im fine. Thank you.
@Beumadine Sweevy lol to me balance was the cold war lol
I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was a teenager. It was dark then, and it still is. It's what drew me to it.
Smell 1975 cascais Portugal....sweet memorys...now i have 68 yesrs old!!!!🇧🇫🙏🇧🇫🎧
Época de ouro da música, onde o talento estava acima da tecnologia.Arranjos, efeitos tirados no braço,como dissemos no interior. Simplicidade, roupas simples, pois oque importava era música.
Falou tudo amigo. Os caras respiravam música. Epoca que não volta mais! Ficou a saudade de bons tempos e belas músicas.
Simplesmente maravilhoso 😍
Coisa BOA essa época, músicas boas.
Diferente de muitas porcarias que tem HJ.
Pode se dizer, hj pouquíssimas músicas aproveita se.
Boa música se faz na raça mesmo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Sensacional.
Incredible band, iconic song, fantastic live performance... I love Genesis....
The amount of wind blowing on that stage and Phil's voice sustaining such power. Just unbelievable.
It looked like the wind almost blew one of Phil's cymbals over
Yes prevented Pink Floyd using their projection screen.
So windy that Pink Floyd weren't able to use their projection screen.
Probably Monica Lewinski Blowing Tony like she did with President Clinton lololol
Yeah, for sure. Phil put all he had into that performance. Wow. Chester Thompson impresses me too. What a drummer; his timing is impeccable.
Cheers Rockers!
@@kermitfrosch6559 Leider 🤒
one of most beautiful songs ever.
there is something very dark about this one. very powerful. and that heh heh oh and the way phil performs it
What do you mean by beautiful.a heavy metal song about a prostitute? Are you daft or something!!!!
Word to that! 👍
"Amen to that"
Totally amazing vocals from Phil, made all the more exceptional given the fact that he's performing in the middle of what appears to be a storm.
• Mesmerizing • Intriguing Performance • What Great Musicians • This includes Chester Thompson🥁
