- Look How High These Trains Are Above The Road! Train Comes Around Reverse Curves & Gives Horn Salute At Dusk! 6 CSX & Norfolk Southern Trains Near Piketon, Ohio At Greggs Hill. CSX And Norfolk Southern Trains Come Together Right Where DT&I Trains Once Passed. Take A Look At One Of Ohio's Best Railfan Secrets!
I spent 8 hours at one of my favorite Railfan locations. This area is best in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. It is difficult to film CSX here in the summer. This is Greggs Hill. Greggs Hill is located between Piketon and Waverley, Ohio. Usually the NS line is much busier than CSX. Today it took over 4 hours before I saw an NS train. NS uses 161.190 and CSX uses 160.230 to call out the signals. I recommend using 452.9375 for end of train device because it is easy for a train to sneak up.
First we see a CSX southbound manifest train cross the big bridge which I will refer to as a trestle. Three hours later a CSX coal train passes over the trestle running northbound. An hour and a half later a Norfolk Southern train finally shows up. It is running railroad west although it is geographically northbound at this location.
Then while I am showing the trestle up close, an eastbound NS double stack intermodal train comes. I had to really hustle to get that one at the railroad crossing. After that train passed I moved a short distance to look at the area where the DT&I Railroad passed through until the 80s.
An hour and a half after the intermodal train passed by I hear an eastbound NS train approaching on the scanner. A defect detector a few miles south of here can easily be received. We see the train coming through the reverse curves and give me a horn salute. That was awesome! I decided to leave at this point.
I drove about 5 miles and then heard an EOT signal come over the radio. It was weak so I wasn't sure if it was the train that I had just filmed or another train coming. I stopped at the nearby Dollar General to get some energy drinks for the long drive home and stay close to the tracks. As soon as I got in the truck I hear the train approaching westbound on the scanner. It is one minute till 7pm. I filmed this one from my truck. It was a double stack intermodal. That was a nice surprise and then I headed for home. The whole drive home is in a very remote area of southern Ohio and devoid of any big towns. It's a fun drive because there is almost no traffic and you can cruise like a bat out of Heck. Lol
Filmed Saturday, March 16, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely old iron trestle JT, train proceeding nice & slow lots of screeching going on!
Great view of the train up there! Fab long train. Enjoyed the video JT.❤😊👍 sad about the lady hit by the train though, awful for the engineer as well. 🙏
As always... 👍. Good job Brian...
I appreciate that!
Hi JT may you have a great day tomorrow ❤❤❤
Thanks, you too!
The tehachipe loop is waiting for you !! 😂 Lol👍
It sure is! I just watched a video about a bed and breakfast in that area and I want to stay there and film the loop.
Great Video, love those old trestles, Thanks for filming. Have an awesome day. Jaw Tooth.
Thanks! You too!
Hey JT, thanks again for all the work you put in for us to enjoy! I didn't know you'd had an operation, I must have missed that, but I hope you are on the road to a full and fast recovery. Best wishes from New Zealand!!!
Love your videos Jawtooth God Bless you
Nice catches jaw 👍🏻😎 cool bridge 👍🏻😎
Thanks 👍
Have a great new week!!
Thank you Dave! You too!
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. Always cool getting a horn salute. It upsets me when people drop trash in woods. You and your family have a happy st Patrick's Day. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Good show. Thanks,
Our pleasure!
When my dad was just out of High School..he worked as a Fireman on the D T & I.....back when it ran from Ironton. OH up to Flatrock MI....and he used to talk about this hill...Last Steam engines ran on that line back in 1956?
That's cool! I lived in Toledo and use to check out DT&I tracks near me. That was back in the 60's.
Last steam run on DT&I was Dec 24, 1955 from Flatrock to Leipsic and return. Last steam on the south end was May 10, 1954. Steam engines officially removed from roster in 1956.
All kinds of awesome information 🎉😊
Wonderful 👍👍👍👍👍👍
How cool is that !!!
Love watching all of your videos from Central Michigan
Happy Saint Patricks Day and thanks for watching!
Hey JT your videos just keep getting better and better awesome job.👍👍
Thanks 👍
Stay safe out there.. enjoy your videos 🙏
JT! That Norfolk Southern train (#5) was a fantastic shot! The angle on the approaching power makes it easy to appreciate the mass and power!
Great!
Thanks 😊
Love your tour of the locations and explanation of each. Not much action on your end but it still looks great on this end. Liked it much, thanks JT!
Thanks for watching 😊
Love it when you show these old bridges ‘tooth! It’s a shame people chose to pollute! Great video!
We agree!
You have the coolest rail fan channel on TH-cam
Happy Saint Patricks Day and thanks for watching!
Another great video JT and don’t that just make you disgusted that people will throw out trash like that that would be a pretty place. If it wasn’t all trashed up and you know 75% of the trash that’s there is people that lives around there but anyway, my friend as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Thanks for your comments Timmy! I always wonder what percentage of people throw out trash and why. There are a lot of people who just don’t care. I had someone dump a stove on my farm and it had a rat in it. My wife caught some people dumping tires and made them pick them up. That was pretty brave 😮🎉
Talk of the morning to you lad thanks for the vidieo and may the luck of the Irish be with you on this st Patrick day try not to drink to much Irish whisky and enjoy your day son.🍀☘☘☘☘☘🍀🍀🍀🍻🍻🥃🥃🚂🚃🚃🚃
Sounds good and thanks for watching!
That bridge in beginning of video has seen better days for sure. The main color is rust. Love watching trains go over bridges. Nice job JT.😊
Thanks for watching 😊🎉
You railfanning at Greggs Hill produced a video that was worth watching, Jaw Tooth! However, from your description of your day at Greggs Hill, it sounds like you spent a lot of time waiting for trains to appear. Thank you for showing us where the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad passed through this area. That was a nice trip back in history.
Yes, there was a long period of nothing coming. They always show up when I'm not ready. Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth somehow the trains must know when you are ready to leave and come by at the last minute to surprise you.
The former C&O bridge across the small road for your first shot is a bit reminiscent of the one on the closed road on CCET. That curve. doesnt look that sharp but those cars sound like they're going through the hump yard. Quite the structure with perhaps a tweak of realignment but structures of that size on a curve are always impressive. Thanks for the detailed camera work on the unique layout of those railroad Bridges with the DTI squeezed in between and the sharp curve the highway makes. The NS train with the big coke cars up front look sharp and at 33:55 look at all that rail pounded into the ground. Apparently they have some unstable ground in that area as it is overkill for a No Parking Zone. Be careful out there today with the over-exuberant party goers
Thanks for your comments Paul! Sometimes they like to beep at me😅
Watching enjoying awesome Jaw Tooth and enjoy the side show too 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂👍😃😎♥️ awesome video Jaw Tooth ❤
Thanks again!
Great video Brian! I especially appreciated seeing where the old DT&I ran. Thanks! 73 W8FZ

Like the green boxcar and the small yellow grain hopper. Always love the coal trains. Next train NS had a Soo Line car on it. Intermodal was interesting, lots of green containers. Thanks JT for all you do. So much work so we can enjoy your videos. ❤

Good morning from pete in eastern PA. I have been watching your vids for about 2 years and never am I disappointed with the content. Here in Paoli there are still some of the old round 6 light signals in use. My Bday is 03/28 (82nd),. Keep the trains (vids) coming.

Thanks JT for another awesome video keep up the good work best wishes from Scotland 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
@@JawTooth Always JT thanks 😊👍
Oops! I fat fingered that one. It had a great variety of cars and was super long at 179 cars! I've never seen olive green tank cars before. They were awesome! ❤ It looks like it was a beautiful day for rail fanning in Ohio. It was here, too. I split some firewood for next year. I'm sure ready for spring! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome video with a horn salute and a dpu working hard but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂👍
You got that right!
Beautiful place

Grandpa Lew worked 55 years for the D T & I Railroad...started in 1905. He had 2 "names" for the railroad..."Damn, Tiresome & Inconvenient" and "Day-goes, Tramps & Irishmen" ....He was killed in 1955 at Morgan Tower in Quincy, OH....when his rail speeder car shot across the Big 4's diamonds, and into the side of a Passenger train...going about 80mph...he was planning to retire the next year ....
Great catches and awesome video
Thank you very much!
And the old bridges and rivited and painted and the old tunnels have dates on them real cool
Surprised at the trash that far out from anywhere..great work.,thanks for sharing..😊
Thanks for watching
Hey Jaw Tooth, at least you got 6 trains... You're gonna have those days where it's super slow and other times, you're gonna hit the trains jackpot... Stay safe out there... 😊
I got 4 yesterday. Lol. Some days I get a bunch and others I strike out. Usually I prefer to film during the week unless it's a tourist railroad. It seems like Tuesday and Friday are the best days.
@@JawTooth yes, those are usually pretty good...
Cool trestle! Great location Jawtooth!👍
Happy Saint Patricks Day and thanks for watching!
Happy St Paddy’S Day JT! Nice bridge shots today. You’re a bit out of shape running to catch that NS, need to do a few laps around your fields with Chessie and Loki! lol! Hope Mrs T is going to feed you some corned beef and cabbage today. Nice retro photos of Loki the puppy😊😊
Thanks 👍
Nice Video
Thanks
Great video Jaw tooth 😄 sincerely Andrew Macintosh. From Canada ❤️
Brian The LM&M has finally put in a brand new bridge over turtle creek in Lebanon
Yeah, I heard about that. I want to film it at some point this year
Cool shot on the train that gave you a horn salute!
Thanks!
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks!
Check out Tulip Trestle in Indiana. BIG bridge.
Hi JT. This is Randy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Y-E-A-R-S ago my grandparents lived on Lake White in Waverly, then on Marple Avenue in Piketon. Sure brings back a lot of memories. Keep up the good work, and God bless.
Thanks for the info! Have a great day and God Bless you also
Interesting old bridge. Love this video
Many thanks! Happy Saint Patricks Day and thanks for watching!
Great locations made up for a slow day..even the last train was good for a different perspective.
Great video JT!

Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth Très bonne journée !
Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
thanks!
Beautiful locationan
Beautiful Location man
It really is!
That was a great video JT, sad that there are people that use the country side as a dump. It’s bad here in the UK too.
That said I do enjoy the locations you film from, so many places I’d happily move to.
Thanks for watching 😊
Nice coverage.
Thanks a lot 😊
MorningJT!
Good morning and thanks for being here so fast
Thanks for the birthday shout out Mr. Tooth! 73
You are welcome! 73s de KB8JUL
Love it!! 👍🏼❤😎
Thanks!!
Awesome video. Yes, it is sad to see trash just dumped! People don't care, no respect for nature. If you would've stayed that train wouldn't have come😂. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
I agree. Happy Saint Patricks Day and thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth you too!
Good stuff Mr Jawtooth.
Great horn on the Norfolk Southern.
Many thanks!
Happy st Patrick's day
That train bridge could use a makeover for sure
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations Loki🤝🙂 You are the Winner 🏆🐶🥇
Hey JT Awesome video as always
Hey, thanks!
After that engine on that very last train disappeared behind that building it sounded as though he gave a horn salute, maybe to some railfans that were out of sight? You have some of the best locations to railfan at. I couldn't believe someone's driveway is a tunnel! When we were kids we called those elevated railroad bridges train " trestles", probably not what they are though. I really enjoyed this one, thank you Brian Jawtooth.
I usually call all railroad bridges trestles also but I always get corrected by someone who will say it's a viaduct or something else. Anyway, thanks for watching my videos!
Oh my it was St Patricks day when this was posted. I need to buy a shillelagh because you have more train videos than I can
shake a stick at.
I have a bunch more to post and I am always filming new ones lol
@@JawToothYour fans think the world of you. I sure do.
@@jameschristiansson3137 I sure appreciate that!
Howdy
That was an excellent CSX mixed freight to start with JT!
That was a good CSX coal train too. 130 cars. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
That was a pretty good NS mixed freight at 130 cars with a DPU. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I really hate that people don't have any more respect for nature than what you're showing here. How hard is it to take your trash home and dispose of it properly? And the worst part is that most of what you're showing could be recycled! It makes me both angry and very sad.😢😢😢
A 101 car NS intermodal was good. It was traveling at a respectable speed. Not as good as a train full of box cars but those days are over. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I love those S curves JT! That was a cool shot. What were the extra rails in the center of the tracks on the bridge, and what is their purpose? And even a short mixed freight is better than no train at all. 😊😊❤❤
That's a cool old bridge. If you get to travel to Hershey Pa.and the area around there are some sharp curves in the area. Some S shaped curves. The one curve from a distance the train wraps around and it looks almost like another train coming around it. Cool video on that bridge.
Thanks for the tips!
@@JawTooth You are welcome im the guy who told you about the pedestrian bridge there. I just started a channel.
Hey buddy. I like the farther away shots. It’s nice to see a different perspective. It’s great to see more than one or two cars at a time. Hope to see you out again soon.
Thanks 👍
DPU for the win!!!
lordy was that train long!!
Thanks for watching!!
Those coke hoppers at the end reminded me of a pre-order I placed for a ten-car set of those same style hoppers from MTH (O gauge). Six C-notes and change plus shipping. Along with the ones I already have, when they arrive by this summer I'll have a 24-car train of NS 'hi-tops', along with the appropriate NS motive power to pull them. That'll make a sight circling the living room :D
Good morning Jaw Tooth.
