Day 3 Part 2 of Kuomboka 2024: The Journey Continues
Did you know that during the journey, His Majesty, the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II himself gets out of his quarters to beat the Mauma Drums? This symbolic act of solidarity with the paddlers on the Nalikwanda is a sight not to miss, especially with the Guest of Honor, His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Chitimukulu Kanyanta Manga II, by his side.
As the procession made its way, crowds patiently waited at the harbour, filled with excitement. And finally, after an over 4-hour wait, the moment arrived when the majestic elephant on the Nalikwanda signaled its arrival.
But here's something fascinating: the Nalikwanda doesn't dock immediately. Instead, it makes three distinct journeys, each accompanied by different traditional music. First, the Manjabila Music sets the tone, followed by the Lishoma Music, and finally, the Mauma Music, signaling the end of the journey. Witnessing the Litunga disembark from the Nalikwanda, adorned in his regal British Admiral Uniform, was a moment of awe and jubilation for all present.
