Arguably the greatest song about a first time intimate encounter with someone and wondering if it is real love or just temporary passion. Seriously there's never been a better song written on the subject.
No argument here, wylmt expresses the eternal question that the female of the human species has asked the male for millennia; "If I lay with you tonight and wake tomorrow with child will you care for me, will you feed me, shelter me, protect me while I make our child? Will you care for me after the child is born and, should I die in birth, will you take care of our child and the child of my sacrifice". Shakespeare would have been proud to have written the lyrics of wylmt for a soliloquy spoken by woman to her man...
GERRY GOFFIN was surely one of my greatest unsung heroes. Gerry deserves so much more credit. Maurice Hilleman was another on my hero list. Thanks for putting this up.
...what's funny?? clearly I'm only 28 so he's my second cousin. he grew up in the apt below my fathers in Brooklyn in the 50s. just because your ignorant doesn't mean I'm making shit up lol believe what you want
Hey people! There‘s an excellent book out there called Girls Like Us by Sheila Weller. It goes into great detail about the lives (and loves!) of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon. One of the things I got from the Carole King section of the book is that she and Gerry Goffin were very young when her pregnancy forced them into marriage and being parents. The amazing thing is how single minded and driven they were about their writing, despite all the pressures. Shocking to me was how generous and forgiving King was to Goffin when he, while they were still in the middle of their marriage, got Jeanie McCrea Reavis, a singer they were working with - pregnant! King even apparently allowed her and Goffin to buy Jeanie and her husband and the kids a house. And King worked with them both, while this affair was going on - knowing about it!
(I must have had a bad day when I wrote this comment, listening to this 3 months later, i think you put a tremendous amount of information in a short video, not disappointed at all! Really well researched and delivered.) very disappointed you deliberately leave out The Monkees recordings. Also, whenever I saw King on tv in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, if someone complimented her songwriting, she always mentioned and thanked Gerry Goffin. She had a bit of class that way.
even though I have been a musician I had never heard very much about mr. goffin until very recently. I find the story of his use of lsd very interesting because it was my use of lsd that sparked my becoming the Rev, Bud Green. I think a lot of people later blamed it for their problems in life, the problem wasn't lsd but the fact that after they took it, they didn't change their lifestyle, which is what lsd will influence most people to do. that's way when you drop acid you better be prepared to be a revolutionary because it shows you a whole new way of looking at this world and our fucked up society and government.
I don't think King gets enough recognition for all the songs she wrote; it's all in the music, anyone can write lyrics, so to say Goffin wrote those songs is totally misleading IMO.
Agree with you that Goffin-King were the greatest husband-wife songwriting team ever & you've chosen some great titles. Just a shame that the sound quality is so appalling.

I was under the assumption that Carol was "king". I am sorry for thinking anything but.
That is very surprising. How did you find out that he was your cousin.
The man NEEDS recognition !
Gerry was a prolific lyricist who helped put rock on the map. A genius tunesmith.
Great writer and colaborator. Nothing in this world gets done alone.
What about Bob Dylan, Donovan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young etc.? They kinda does it by themselves.
A true genius.
Well done

Apparently writing songs for black singers wasn't the full extent of his interest, meaning Jeanie McCrea.

This guy could've been a star. A BIG star.
The lyricist half of a songwriting team are often overshadowed by the composing half of the duo. Think Hal David and Bernie Taupin.
@@stephenspencer4672Or Jack Bruce, who is more known than Pete Brown.
I'm glad he finally got the recognition he deserved!
I write lyrics and sometimes music and really appreciate talent and he was fortunate enough to make it.,amen
When you listen to his lyrics, the amount of intelligence this man had to come up with them, the ability to put feelings to words is amazing.

2:58 the piano player became Bob Dole? dylan
Other than Leiber & Stoller - the team of Goffin & King...
Within the lyrics you can HEAR where Carol wrote. The words are expressed in the way only a woman could understand it.
Not necessarily.
The married couple Boudleaux & Bryant had more chart hits than Goffin/ King.

What ?
“Cigarette smoking tough guy”???
How was he tough?
From a college boy studying chemistry?

Carole king was song writer - not Goffin !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goffin only made lyrics- that is very easy -no problemto do !!
Like a lot of things, easy to do, but not easy to do well.
try writing something 2 % as good as Will you still love me tomorrow then post it here
Tell Hal David who wrote the lyrics for Burt Bacharach's many hits 😁
