I remember when Shatner was promoting the Vic 20. I was going to buy one, but my dad gave me one for a wedding gift and I loved it! I coded a game of Farkle on it where the computer displayed the dice, made the rolling sounds, kept score and not only played against you, but beat me about 60% of the time without cheating! It was the 5K model, 3.5K available to BASIC and I fit it all in by having it load the graphics data from tape while you read the instructions. Great machine. I never had that disk drive, but a friend did, on his C64 and it was SLOW! On a side note, I was a big fan of Doogie Howser, but not How I met your mother, but that's really on the writers and showrunner, not the actors. All good wishes!
I love how that thing looks. i can imagine me with a small 90s 3.5 floppy drive and then someone comes along and says you call that a floppy drive this is a floppy drive. and then uses the 8050 drive to crush my 90s floppy drive.
Yes, that's an 8010 acoustic coupler. I cleaned it up and took a ton of photos of it inside and out, but I don't have a schematic for it. Andy Finkel scanned the manual for the 8010, which I uploaded to the Internet Archive a while back.
@@commodorehistory Hi and thank you for your answer! I'd like to try reverse-engineering a schematic for it, if you have a couple of photos of top side and bottom side of the PCB taken from a vertical angle, I could try. I'm quite sure it's based on the Prentice Star acoustic coupler (that I already have) so it might be similar enough.
@@iz8dwf I posted a ton of detailed photos of it in the Commodore International Historical Society Facebook group already. I posted 4 pics of it on Twitter @commodoreihs. I’ll try to get some uploaded to my website later this evening.
Oh my GOD!? An original Commodore 8010 modem! Would you maybe sell it? I could nearly die for getting one of those. They weren‘t so common in germany back in the good old days… :( Best regards from germany! Matthias

Nice find for sure and especially fitting for the channel and collection. Looking forward to seeing what you have planned for it.
Thanks for posting this. I needed a feel good story to offset the Mondays. Hopefully we can see your new 8032 featured in future videos...
That modem is a dream item. I have both an 8032 and an 8050. Nice haul!
Great video, Dave! Love your dedication:)
That is awesome! Glad he put it into good hands. Keep up the good work.

Agreed - great drive. Thanks for watching!
Woah! Was that the CBM8010 acoustic coupler? If it is, PLEASE, we badly need the schematics of that very elusive acoustic coupler!

If we could get the scematics and maybe very good scans of the pcbs… I would do the 3D construction of the housing. Should be easy.

@@commodorehistory I'm not either on facebook or twitter. If you have a personal website, that would be perfect.
