Shred on Shredder!
first week snowboarding, on icy slopes learning basics, eating snow, hurting and bruised. then came fresh snow overnight and the gf takes my of slope, best time of my life. I have never felt so good doing anything, even in Rock climbing when onsighting my pb. I have at 38 found something New for myself that I just absolutely love,
Life changing 🙌
❤
First thing I recommend to do when people are looking to expand their quiver is to get a dedicated pow deck. Pow days don't come around often, make the most of them. Save your legs.
I'm also not a fan of setting my stance back on freestyle boards. I find it feels too weird losing a couple inches off my tail. Again... dedicated pow/party board.
I really like these newer short and wide party boards. They rip pow and are still extremely capable and fun on groomers.
Another tip... don't do nollies.
This one point cannot be overstated. A proper pow board makes more of a difference than all the other tips combined. If you want to ride steep trees in pow get a shorter volume shifted board like an orca. If you want to just charge open runs the shorter board will handle it but a longer board especially of the swallowtail full rocker variety will do better. Also those boards tend to keep riding further on more mellow grades. And a fresh wax makes all the difference no matter what board you use when you hit those flat spots.
“Pow will ruin snowboarding for you. You’ll quit your job and leave your family. And chase storms all over the world” Lol! Love that last part! That’s quite true. Riding pow is such a game changer in snowboarding. Just getting the hang of it this season. It’s a LOT OF FUN!!! 😅😊
Can’t wait to break my pow board in this season. My first ever experience with pow in CO was exactly as you described. Watching the nose of your board disappear and getting buried is a lot of work. Especially if it happens multiple
Times per run. Will stick to the steeps on my next pow day 🤙 first tracks baby
The only time ever that I went to a big mountain, was last year in Austria. By luck there was a pow day, and I couldnt lie when i said that i was the one screaming from happiness! i just somehow learnt how to ride it by the 2nd run, and idk why but there was like at most 40 people on the mountain side(usually 200-400) so it was EMPTY. I got all the fresh pow to myself and enjoyed it so much. Sadly my country has small mountains with extremely rare pow so i dont think ill get to enjoy this feeling again any time soon.
Epic day
I have a extra wide directional twin with a set back on it. It works great with a non-set back stance for regular resort riding and set back for deep days. Was a Baker with it two days when there was a massive dump. It was surfy as heck.
I have a split version of this deck for backcountry as well. Soooooo good!
come back tomorrow 20 more inches of snow
Perfect morning for this vid. Chairs finally spinning in the Tahoe area. Yeehaw!
Thought of you all out in Tahoe when it was going live! Slash some pow for me
Freaking thank you! Most other vids on this are 2 minutes of half explained tips with 8 minutes of clips. Thanks for taking time to explain. I’m an east coast boy who just had the absofreakinlute worst first pow day ever but it still looks so fun if I can get the hang of it
We just had a weekend full of great POW here in North Idaho. Was truly epic Christmas. Ditched the skis for the weekend and used my big board that floated like a champ.
That's epic! what resort in idaho?
@@ShredSchool1 Schweitzer. It is where I live and work. The lifty life is a good life. We had 4 feet of Canadian Champagne Powder over Christmas weekend. I worked two of the days but the 2 I rode are the deepest and best powder I have ever been in.
Tomorrow is gonna be big at Baker🙏🏽
All week in fact
Here to get some tips to keep a float👌🏽
I'm fuggin so stoked🤘🏽
Nothing like hitting the powder❄
Great video!
Total truths!!
Man I’m from Florida and I’ve done a lot of cool shit but I can say with confidence that snowboarding was the coolest thing I’ve ever done with injuries and all lol
Jus bought the 2023 nitro POW board! I’m amped🗣🗣🗣. Lessss GOOOO!!
Pff the best POW I’ve ever ridden is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Pretty much everywhere up there averages 150-250 inches of snow per year. And it’s super cold and dry. If you’re in the Midwest and want to taste the POW, head up there. It’s worth the trip
Sweet
This vid is so timely with insane powder dump right here right now in Hakuba.
solid tips!
Wow! I was hoping for a video like this! I recently did a long day in deep powder, and I had no idea what I was doing.
I've only had one pow day in Park City and it wasn't a good experience. I didn't know how different the riding required was. I kept getting stuck and it was exhausting. I'd love to give it another shot after watching this.
I think it's a common experience. You got it next time, one of the greatest feelings on earth!
Right of passage. It'll take you 2 more times.
After my first powder run I messaged my brother and told him I was dedicating my life to powder.
Great tips! I'd add WAX YOUR BOARD to keep your speed up!
Yesss
Rome the Service Dod is my pow stick for trees and yes it serves!
Yessir I’m from utah and powder mountain is so addicting
And the two most important things !!!!!
1.- Get information about Avalanche in the backcountry .
2.- Learn to use Probe, beacon and shovel !!!!
I got a fresh pow most of the time downstairs 2 mins walk to the neighborhood park. There is a nice hill with 2 sides. One I would say a green steepness and the other side is blue steepness. It’s not that long only 200 meters runs. I’ve seen kids tobogganing, but they are not coming out anymore. I started using the hill all for me nobody even thought of it.
I tried going down some deep powder today without ever watching any videos on how to do it. It was terrible. I just sank as soon as I tried to turn. Took me like 30 minutes to climb out of the deep snow and climb back up the slope. I'm def not ready for that
2 words, Rossignol Sushi. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Thanks. Going on a heli trip this season. I was contemplating renting a pow board but maybe I’ll just set my stance back. I have a Travis Rice pro model and this should work just fine.
@@MC-rd2dz thanks. Good to know
Getting a dedicated freeride/powder board (heavily directional/tapered/set back camber/flat/rockered profile) is an extremely wise thing to do. This will allow you to ride far more centrally stacked with the board doing all the hard work/heavy lifting for you ie minimal rear leg burn. As stated riding epic powder runs will be one of the most memorable experiences you'll have in your life of snowboarding. As an EC Aussie I can tell you that having a competent solid surfing ability will also greatly assist you when riding powder as the turns (rear foot) are very very similar to the floating feeling of smashing out and gliding across foaming lip lines.
@@cratra thanks. Appreciate the advice
Fun and informative
Stance angle? I'm planning on going with duck stance for simplicity though others recommend a straight back foot..
Can you do a vid on pow slashes? (Especially toe sided slashes).
For sure!
Pow is addictive and the West is the best. As someone that spends 6-8 weeks/season in the rockies, I can also say I've had some of my best pow days home in the east.... Jay Peak anyone? I wouldn't sleep on it.
That’s awesome. Timing is everything, could be terrible in Jackson Hole and puking in Vermont
Yes!
Snowboarding pow is infinitely better than skiing pow. I will die on this hill.
I just picked up a new Pow board, and today, with 2 feet of fresh pow, I still rode my park twin..haha.
haha classic. Sounds like something I would do
How do you ride before the lifts open? Am I aloud to just hike my local mountain? I've been wondering that cause last season I saw so many ppl hiking it with no lift ticket. I just never tried cause I feel like once I did it I'd be stopped by patrol cause that's my luck lol
I need tips for landing in pow from cliff drops I sink in and can’t land like normal
Keep your weight low and slightly back. Ever watch skiers when they land and sit down on the back of their skis? Kind of the same idea.
Speed is key, if you go in hot you’ll plow throw the landing no worries, I also find in my experience landing centred and strong helps, you sink and kind of bounce back up to the surface
Yay pow day
You should make a tiktok account
A pow board is worth every penny to save your legs
Sucks that you have to tell people not to wear a sweatshirt. That's probably never a good call. 35+ years of snowboarding pow right here 🙋♂️ pnw pride
We never get pow
where do you live?
how many fucking times are we gonna hear "yew" - ughhh
Duck ropes, go out of bounds, the pow is totally worth losing your life over. He says where else would you find full grown man making noises they never have before. Ya I know, I'd rather die riding or die trying.
I’m thinking u literally copy tommie Bennett’s video ideas
this video was written six months ago, has been scheduled for 3
The concepts are pretty universal
@@fudhater8592 yah but the last 2 vids have been so simalar
This is a fair bit different in how TB produces a YT clip.
@@cratra I meant more the main concept
