Ruby Crest Trail: Sampling Nevada's Goods

- Matt, Pax and I travel to Nevada's Ruby Crest Trail on Matt's whirlybird to check out a small section of its 35 miles. I can only imagine what the views would have been like if the mountain range hadn't been choking in smoke. Still, it was a beautiful place to test out my stomach after last weeks Puke-a-thon in the Salt River Range.

The helicopter thing seems like a magic carpet ride to any great place you want to be! I'm sick with jealousy! I'm glad you guys have the means to use the technology for such a great purpose. This looks like an awesome trail.

Yeah. It blows my mind that low range class 5 climbing might not scare you when you are in your early years, but as I age, I just smh now.

The Rubies are a cool range - much better without the smoke. My memories are of the horse packer taking in lots of guns and it wasn't hunting season.

I hiked the Ruby Crest Trail a couple years ago. Beautiful area.

Sometimes I hate living vicariously through your videos. In this case, owning my own $900k R66 is more of a hassle than it's worth. It's like being the only person in your group of friends who owns a pickup. Someone is always asking me to move a couch. "Hey, bro! Can I take the chop chop out for a run this weekend?" Struggles.... Good vid again guys. Always looking forward to them. Cheers.

Ha! I thought about that. I try not to suggest we go places or do anything because he gets bombarded with requests. And you're spot on with the truck observation which is why I keep the back of my truck filled with debris "sure you can use it if you clear it out!"
@@MediocreAmateur genius. I started driving a Prius. That pretty much solved all of my problems. Nobody ever wants to borrow someone's Prius.
"Someone's" wife wanted me to buy her this old blue 1970's Chevy pick-up truck replete with a huge decomposing deer leg in the truck bed. Thought that it would put her off the purchase, but then I remembered what she did with the bowls of cereal in her room. Always wonder why the cats liked going under her bed.

Love your channel, my wife and I after a day out mountain biking binge watched almost every video. A quick question.. what shoes do y’all wear? I see a mix of la sportiva, potentially Salomon.
Thanks for watching! For days that involve running, hiking, and ridge scrambles I usually go with a pair of La Sportivas (Bushidos, mutants, akasha). When I'm only running on trail I wear a pair of Hoka Speedgoat 2's. When I don't know what I'll be encountering that day I wear my Salomon Sense Rides. I think the Salomons offer the perfect mix of cushion and grip. The downside to the Salomons is that they don't last very long. I like to try new shoes as often as my wallet allows so this list changes occasionally but this is my line up for now. Hope that helps.
Mediocre Amateur super helpful, i am transitioning from hiking, scrambling and climbing into trail running, bushwhacking and ridge running as well. That’s sort of how I stumbled on the channel. I think it’s the perfect way to get more out of your day. Plus you still get the awesome scrambling. So stoked I found yalls channel

Great vid. Could you advise your average pace for these runs?
Very slow most of the time. On Strava it says our average pace was 14:25 per mile. Our running is usually inconsistent with lots of starts and stops for filming, check ins etc. Plus, the minute you introduce a ridge to your day, you slow things down considerably.
What a fantastic ridge! I have not yet experienced "ridge fatigue" either, lol. The music was hideous but otherwise another great video.

What does Matt do to be able to run a helicopter?
Hmmmmm I thought a while about how to answer this and I think the best way to put it is, helicopter flying runs in his family.
Mediocre Amateur interesting. I imagine there's a certain satisfaction with skipping the crud and landing right at the start of a sweet ridge. Enjoy the whirlybird!

You can take lessons to become certified to fly a helicopter, but it’s not cheap or easy. You can game money back shuttling vips, giving tours, and fighting wild land fires.
My buddy Sea Legs works out in Colorado mostly doing fire fighting. He has some crazy stories about his work. IED bomb in Lydia, crashing in a forest fire, etc.
