Backpacking the Ruby Crest trail for 5 nights - Ruby Mountains, Nevada

- The Ruby Crest Trail is in the Ruby Mountains in northeast Nevada.
The lowest part of the Ruby Crest Trail is at 7200 feet at Harrison Pass
and the highest part is Wines Peak at 10,893 feet.
This is a 35-mile hike, but that depends on who you ask. A permit is not required for hiking or backpacking.
Water is usually abundant on the trail
and a shuttle system is required if you're starting at Harrison pass to Lamoille.
Since my friend had to drive back to Vegas after our backpacking we decided to take two cars. We left his truck at the trailhead parking lot of Lamoille canyon. We got there around 10 am and the parking was already full so we had to wait a bit. Once we secured a spot we drove to Harrison Pass and left my Jeep about two miles from the main road.
Our backpacking trip went as follows
Night 1: Gilbert Creek Trailhead
Night 2 & 3: Overland Lake
Night 4: Favre Lake
Night 5: Liberty Lake
Since this was late in the year there were not many water sources, especially from Overland Lake to North Furlong Lake which made things a bit more challenging. Also, it was really hot during the day so carrying 5 nights, 6 days' worth of food can really get you.
All the lakes are pretty, but in my opinion, Overland Lake takes the crown. Is just a bit challenging to get to Overland lake whether you start Harrison Pass or Lamoille Canyon. If I decide to go back again I would totally just to Overland Lake around June or July.
Beautiful video. Excellent production and cinematography. This should have thousands of TH-cam views.
Hey, Kevin thank you for watching this awesome adventure and for the love :)
I live at Southfork Resevoir with the entire mountain range in view. The Ruby Mountains are one of my favorite places in the world. Hiking, fishing, camping, breathe taking views, gorgeous sunsets, the list goes on, always a blessing!
I would love to go back and stays at least 2 nights at every lake.
Excellent cinema. Definitely not the first thing you think when you think of Nevada.
Indeed man!
Very beautiful place…Thanks for the footage 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching :)
Beautiful cinematography throughout the video. The trail is definitely hard , but the views are absolutely breathtaking.
Thank you for watching! Indeed not any easy trek, but the views and the lakes are stunning.
@@exploringMundos I appreciate your reply. I found out about the area from a travel TH-camr. I did some research and I found out about the trail. Thanks for sharing the journey. It does look challenging, but rewarding.
@@Hobomountainwander Oh you bet! Are you planning on doing it any time soon?
@@exploringMundos I am thinking of doing it September.
Stunning
Thank you, Levi.
Great content!!!!
Bravo my man.
Much appreciated it 👏👍❤️
Great video. Brought back good memories of backpacking in the Ruby Mountains when I lived in Nevada 30+ years ago.
Thank you, Richard. Glad to hear it brought good memories back. Definitely one of my favorite backpacking trips.
This route north from Harrison Pass to the end of the trail at Lamoille Canyon is the more difficult way to go since you are climbing uphill from 7,200 ft. at Harrison Pass to over 10,000 ft. to Liberty Pass before descending quickly to the Lamoille Canyon Trailhead at 8,000 ft.. It is easier to start at the north end at Lamoille Canyon and go south on the trail. Once you go over Liberty Pass it is all downhill. My son and I did this backpack in the late 1980's. It is beautiful.
Thank you, Alan. Yes, if If I do it again I will probably do it this way. We just wanted to end by the lakes.
Thunderstorms can be spooky there! Still beautiful.
I'm dying to go back again! Definitely not in September as most of the creeks were dried. We did had a storm chasing us all week. On our last night thr tent was no match for the wind. My buddy hammock camped and I cowboy camped next to some boulders to break the insane wind.
doesn't get much better than relaxing on an inflatable mattress in that gorgeous setting 🤘
Amen! I was concerning carrying that thing, but once we got to the lake it was the best thing ever. Also used it as a ground cloth on the last day. Thank you for watching Roy :)
Sweet! The Ruby mountains look awesome. Do you know if any of the local towns has a shuttle service you can pay for?
Hey, Mitchell. Thank you for watching :)
Yes, i believe there's someone at Lamoille that does the shuttle system. Let me see if I can get the contact info and I'll send it over
