I finally got around to repotting my Phrag longifolium. I've been putting it off because the plant is so big and thus has such a big pot. Probably the easiest growing Phrag, I shouldn't complain because it has been in bloom constantly for at least 3 years. Decided I was going to pot it in the cypress mulch and hope that it likes it.
After being in flower for over 3 years I thought you'd be sick of seeing the blooms Michael!! I cannot get cedar mulch over here but I am so pleased with my Phrags in lava rock.....they are doing so well and blooming. Thanks Michael for your comment , hope your longifolium adapts quickly to its new media......take care, Ed.
Hello, Ed. This is Kim from S.Korea. Three months ago I asked about Phragmipedium wallisi and I'm care this one according to the management method you told me by videos and replys. The Phrag that were imported from Ecuador. At least it is succeeded at domestication, even though it was damaged during import. Now, a new buds growing every day. The only problem is that the leaves of the existing plants wither. 5-6 leaves are existing, and no new ones came out from the growing points. I'd like to think of this as a natural aging, but I can't assure now. Phragmipedium is so hard to care in North East Asia😅 Best regard.
If the leaves are looking not good the you will have a root problem........they should be able to grow quite well in Korea especially if you have very soft water.......please check the roots and let me know what you find.....thanks and take care, Ed.
@ Hello Ed. I will check the root. Reminding leaves are still green. But i gave some fertilizer during last summer. Maybe this can be lead some problems. Thank you so much. Kim.
Congratulations for your prize at the show ! ( should expect that ) . Lovely phrag and huge ! 👏🏻 Does the phrags have a certain time to repot it or can be done at any time ? Mine one is small but in one month since I have it , have 4-5 new roots I can see them growing and 2 tiny tiny growths ( 5 growths in total ). Is still in 8 cm nursery pot with bark . If I repot it now , will I disturb the growth of my phrag? Thank you for all your videos and your informations ! You should write a book about growing phrags ! Have a lovely weekend!
Good morning Claudia...sorry I'm a little late in replying to you. You can repot Phrags at any time.....I have even potted them when in bloom with no effect.....we all know that Phrags like to be continually damp but try and keep their roots cool .....they don't like them to be warm. Some Phrags have a nasty habit of producing lots of new growth without growing extra root to accomodate the new growths, so when you repot look out for new root growth. Thank you Claudia for your comment and I hope it won' be too long before your Phrags give you lots of beautiful blooms.....take care, Ed.
Congratulations on your prize winning orchid!❤💯🤗👍🪴
Thank you so much Lori....have a good week ahead,
Ed.
