I'm planning to buy silver bars of 500gms and 1kg. And I have heard that, even in big brands, they put stainless steel bars in the middle of silver bars and sell for profits. And that cannot be found in a rub test ad we need to do electronic sound test to identify fake silver bars. Can you put some light on it please? It helps people like me a lot to avoid buying fake silver and going into problems. Thanks in advance.

If you are buying from big brands then you still have some faith since if something goes wrong they will entertain your questions and identify the issue. Usually its tungsten but that is if you are buying metals for extreme cheap prices, otherwise you are good to go. Yes, getting them checked is hard unless done via Fire Assay which is available at selective labs. One thing is to get it checked from bis centres: bis.gov.in/index.php/hallmarking-overview/hallmarking-centre/list-of-hallmarking-centres/ and see what they tell you. Let me know.

= price of 999 silver x .925

But the exact value of the metal after deduction can only be determined by a jeweller. Yes, there is difference in selling old and buying new.

In india you only have access to Gold, Silver & Platinum when it comes to metals where the costliest being Gold then platinum and finally silver. I am not so sure how pearls are priced. Silver is 62rs per gram.

Lead isn’t banned in India I think only cadmium is. Even if lead is banned then I would say most of the times other alternative metal & it’s alloys are used. I am assuming that all the refineries have some rules
to follow for sure. Since mmtc pamp
is a BIS licensed refinery hence they might be more cautious when it comes to alloys being used.
