You broke a piston ring. When assembling it is still there, a few seconds later you can clearely see its gone.

I like to restore things, esp one of a kind, high valued, etc. But this, in my opinion, it is Utterly Stupid. this is literally Junk. The time spent on this "restoration" is the example of moronic nonsense. New mower, self propelled, brand new, high end, would still be far cheaper than this nonsense. I am not sure what is the lesson learned here.
