- This episode of the series “Louisiana Legends” from December 19, 1983, features an interview with Kitty Carlisle Hart conducted by Gus Weill. Hart, a native of New Orleans, is a theater and film actress. She discusses: her acting education in Europe; her first major role; her work with the Marx Brothers in “A Night at the Opera” in 1935; her friendship with George Gershwin; her marriage to playwright Moss Hart; her time on the television program, “To Tell the Truth”; her 1966 debut at the Metropolitan Opera; and her social roles.
What a terrific lady, who literally exuded charm, warmth, and an infectious zest for life. I was her friend from 1996-2007 (even though she was decades and decades older than I), and miss her to this day. She was as down-to-earth as they come.
She speaks like a talker. She doesnt seem to stop and think up any lies or remixes she just speaks with confident wisdom. Lovely!
I only remember Kitty from To Tell the Truth. I always thought she dressed so elegantly, and walked with cat- like grace. I just read on wikipedia she was a singer and actress, and was so highly educated. She's very gracious, but almost like you could invite her over for coffee. Seemed like such a nice lady, with a cute sense of humor. Classy lady.
I wish they talked more about "to tell the truth" but this women is amazing im loving this interview. What a life!
very charming woman
So many wonderful life lessons here. "I was on more boards than you could shake an agenda at, and one thing led to another. I can only urge people who are left alone to do everything they are asked to do because otherwise you get left by the wayside."
An absolutely delightful interview.
