    I bought one the other day, for my Xbox Series X. I modded the gate to an octagon one. The wireless works like a charm and everything boots right up. I get slaughtered online in SF6, but it's still fun. (Update...It works great on Tekken 8)

    I just got my 8bit do last week. Excellent quality and great for a new firstt time fight stick owner. OR if you want a smaller stick with easier access. This is the only fightstick that I own that has a headset. That alone was worth it. Otherwise-everything else in this video is spot on. I will add that the joypad/joystick switch does work now....but its still not explained what it does.

  • @xAxCx
    @xAxCx 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think "joystick mode" is actually switching the mapping from the dpad to the left analogue. With how older PlayStation type controllers you could do something similar by mapping the dpad inputs to the left stick by pressing the analogue button.

    I had the Nintendo version and was pretty impressed with it until it died after several months of infrequent use, but I'm going to assume that my bad experience in that regard is an outlier.
    The main issue I had with the 8BitDo Arcade Stick before it died was that during intense play sessions, it moved around on my desk to the point where my hand position for the lever was thrown off. I doubt the Xbox version is any heavier, so that might be something to keep in mind. Not everybody is going to be as calm and measured with their lever inputs as Nihongo Gamer.
    But it is good to hear that the Xbox version is easier to modify. I wouldn't say that the Nintendo version is hard to modify. But making it easier to swap out the buttons is a welcome change.
    And I definitely agree that 8BitDo should make a bigger version of this stick. I replaced my dead 8BitDo Arcade Stick with a Mayflash F500 (transferring the Sanwa parts I had modded into the 8BitDo Arcade Stick to that one) and I'll never go back to that smaller size. The F500's size is so much nicer.

  • @MarcConcepcion1313

    Your ergonomics issue just made me realize that I may have developed an unorthodox button hand position. I’m actually comfortable with that staggered layout because I actually use my thumb to hit the LK button (I actually use my thumb on the bottom row of buttons and the corresponding finger on the top row to do a xP+xK button combination). Doing it that way eliminates the need to twist the wrist like you showed. Considering that I’ve only used budget, non-moddable sticks since the 90s (which pretty much all of them shared this staggered button layout on a narrow body), I can understand why I developed my possibly-weird hand position style.

    • @NihongoGamer
      @NihongoGamer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There may be some confusion here. The button layout itself on the 8bitdo is totally fine. It’s more or less similar to the vewlix layout used in many arcades. The issue for me, ergonomically, is that when placed in a balanced position on the lap, the entire layout is too far to the left to be comfortable. Using thumb to press LK is quite common I think

  • @anlhakanyarc4850
    @anlhakanyarc4850 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    If you are using this stick with 5 pin hitbox converter, the difference between joystick mode and gamepad mode emerges. On joystick mode, if you press left and right you will be on normal but on gamepad mode character will walk to the right. If you press up and down on joystick mode you will be normal again but on gamepad mode, character will jump. Also on joystick mode, RSB and LSB inputs don't work. If there are other differences, I dont know what they are. If anyone knows it, please inform us. :) I use this arcade stick with hitbox converter on Xbox and I am very happy with it.

    • @nerdstrangler4804
      @nerdstrangler4804 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends on the game/app. The idea being that if the game detects you are using an arcade stick, the developer can load a more arcade stick friendly button layout if the default controller layout doesn't translate well to stick. Probably not too relevant in fighting games, but could be useful in other types of games. Although I can't say I have played a game that utilizes this feature yet.
      Plus controller mode will allow support in games/apps that don't support joysticks. For instance after modding my arcade stick I loaded up a gamepad tester app to make sure all my buttons were working. But the app would not recognize it in arcade stick mode, only in controller mode. Although it seems like if a game/app purposefully prohibits the use of arcade sticks, then the xbox won't allow you to use it in either mode. Although 360 games don't seem set up for this and seem to always work in controller mode.
      Granted grain of salt and all that, as I have only done very limited testing, these are just my preliminary observations/conjecture.

    • @NihongoGamer
      @NihongoGamer  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The issue is the size of the stick. If the stick were bigger you could shift the buttons to the right but on the 8bitdo shifting the buttons to the right would cause the stick to be balanced only your right leg. If you play on a desk this is less of an issue

    One thing i wamna bring up. When i bought this for modification, i ran into issues just getting into the damn thing. The screws are really tight on from the factory, and on my first one i stripped the screws on the case from tryong to get into it. I ended getting another and it worked out ok, but now I'm running into the issue of getting the screws on the lever off so i can take it out of the controller. Also, be forwarned that the wiring for the joystick is different than the original version and you'll either need to splice or solder in a new stick for it to work.

      Good to know! Screws were fine on mine thankfully.

    • @SoundToxin
      @SoundToxin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't mean to victim-blame here, but stripped screws are almost always from using the wrong size bit. Maybe you had a size or two too small so it wasn't a tight fit and it slipped. A low quality screw with cheap/soft metal can cause problems too but if using the right size bit, shouldn't be too much of a problem still. I used to have occasional issues stripping screws until I got less lazy about it. You want the biggest bit that fits. It's worth checking for the best fitting one you have even if it takes a bit longer just to prevent possible damage.

      @@brightsuperstitionit’s over priced for Xbox licensing. Same one as the universal for $30-$40 less. Also there isn’t enough room for your stick hand. Plenty of things wrong with this stick.

    Frustrating, surely they could incorporate Switch into this too.

      I’ve never seen officially licensed products that work on both so I assume part of the licensing process is locking the device to only one console.

    for now, 3rd party controllers and whatnot should just plug into an existing controller. Pain, but it works and it is relatively easy.

    Who will know if you playing with macros online? Well, no human can repeat combo for hundred times with a per frame precision. So after 100 usage, server will know for sure that you are using "soft" :|
    The problem is how will it be punished? Fighting community is not so big at all, and we not starting to count how many players each game has, so doing something like punishments for macros will be nonproductive for publishers and devs :\ What's why we will be playing against people who cant even use their arms and fingers :(

    I mean, cool and all but, this is what microsoft was doing. Shutting down unofficial stuff and forcing us to buy things like this.

    Microsoft and Sony can suck one. Never buying their overpriced garbage that screws over owners of preexisting controllers.
