I agree with Christina Warren that this new Vision Pro is a dev kit so that when the newer lighter and cheaper headsets come out there will already be plenty of amazing software for them.
Kids? You have to worry about them around computers, iPhones, iPads, magazines, TV, their friends, strangers… why not the Vision Pro?
As it is now, though, what kid is going to be able to afford a Vision Pro?
Yeah, many parents let their kids use the new Apple Macintosh when it came out for a comparable (in 1984 dollars) $2400. But that was still before computers were all connected.
I figure this is mostly for the early adopters to figure out how to use and to spread the good news about how easy and fun it is to use, just like they did with the original Macintosh.

$3,500 is a bit steep. Hope the price drops by at least $1000

Actually drawing cool air in at the bottom does NOT necessarily require a fan. All of this can naturally occur by simple convection. The only time a fan or some other enhanced pumping action is employed is when natural convection is NOT suffice to dissipate the heat. As warm/heated air rises out of the top cools air is drawn in through the bottom ports to replace to warm/heated air. Convection work by displacement. Nature hates a vacuum. So when warm/heated air, or any heated fluid for that matter rises up, a cooler fluid naturally move-in to the space once occupied by the previous heated air/fluid. Heat moves/is transferred by 3 ways: 1) conduction, 2) convection & 3) radiation. Based on the thermal dissipation requirements of Vision Pro, Apple has determine natural convection is suffice. This is Physics 101 - Fluid Thermal Dynamics.

I had a light bulb moment when you said the Apple vison pro has just killed devices with screens. I think it already has, as I suspect that it’s the reason there is not a higher speed iMac. This is the first victim I think. People looking at buying a high end 27 inch iMac are being moved the the Mac Studio (plus monitor) and those who would use an iMac Pro will now probably be looking at a studio with Apple Vision Pro. If that is successful I can see the logic in making an AR only version to kill off things like the iPhone and iPad at a reduced price. After all the Sedalia glasses are already fulling that space. Then you are right if they can move to screenless devices (at the personal end) they will save an awful lot of cash, who knows they may dump screens of less than 30 inches on “pro” desktops and move to a larger screen for professional applications to allow collaboration, on the premise it is easier than buying 2 or more Apple Vision Pro devices. All of a sudden the £5k XDR monitor makes sense for those professional applications that require a collaborative environment, at least until Apple invents the hollo-display table that is.
