My aunt's BF has a Fisher MC-3010 (from about 1975) and it has VU meters... pretty nice unit, it has a pair of Bose 201 lookalike speakers that came with it. It's a rather cool system too, and has a built-in 8-track player. The Qbos reminds me of a similar retro-looking system that resembled an old phonograph and looked almost exactly like this. Sanwin Watches and Electronics owns Qbos according to a quick Google search. In terms of cheap products, I have a Zenith Z213B A/M-F/M clock radio that looks exactly like a Bose Wave but it sounds nothing like a Wave (considering I own a Wave that is used in my bedroom), but it works for what it is.
I have a couple Kim Wilde LP's. Good tunes. As for this, what is loosely called a stereo, I think that a possible mod that is probably not worth doing, would be to use one of those small amps like Maxxarcade uses and get some banana jacks or regular speaker terminals to mount on the back. I would take a Soundesign or an RCA of even a SHARP bookshelf system from the 90's over this any day :) I thought those were cheap... those are high quality compared to this.
A quick search for QBOS turned up a patent/trademark site that let us know that the company is either out of business or does not use the logo mark anymore. I only found one consumer electronics product listed as currently for sale under the name QBOS; a bladeless fan/speaker/mic that hooks up to your PC or Mac with USB. I think you should do a video on that one.
Well... I'm 60 now and I prefer to download music or buying a CD rather than a record for ANY turntable, no matter the price point or quality (usually dudious, as it has ever been). Vinyl is a thing of the past, an obsolete medium enhanced now because pure snobbery.

@@venturarodriguezvallejo1567 Hello I am far older than 60 but many old recordings of the 40´s and 60´s are not possible to download, I have them in 78´s and LP´s. In my zone Internet is very hard or impossible to get....Cheers from frozen Patagonia, Argentina.
But ironically it sounded better playing a 90 year old 78, than the 30-odd year old 'modern' record! :-D Correct impedance matching does help of course, but really....!!
I remember in the 1970s most (fairly decent) turntable stereo systems had VU meters. I'm sure that QBOS was probably pretty cheap, since most retro styled stereo systems included a CD player back in 2007.
It's cool to see a modern stereo with VU meters... but it would be nice if they actually worked properly! The only cool thing about it is that it's styled like a 1970s era all-in-one. They didn't attempt to make it look like a stack of components which is nice at least. The cabinet was probably made with scraps lying around the shop to save them money, because they really cut every corner they could find.
So this unit has VU meters that just barely work. Also, I have the exact same record deck used here in a unit which is a USB powered seperate record deck, it outputs through the USB socket for connection to a PC and has an RCA stereo output for connection to an amp (Brand: Soundlogik, Model EE0514FSFOB, Date Code 110822) It was an excellent bargain even if it is low quality as I've seen similar units (probably with the same deck) for for a fair bit more than £8. It came with a CD that had, of course, an old version of Audacity on it and not much else.
I like the styling of it. Makes me wonder if you could just repurpose the case and put higher end equipment inside of it. Bigger amplifier board, add external speaker ports, swap out the speakers and turntable. Rub off the QBOS name with acetone or something LOL
DvdXploitr I could drop a proper amplifier in it, and not that cheap 20 watt 12 volt shit either you see people buying on here. Those are pure garbage. I can easily drop a 100 watt per channel MOSFET amplifier board and heatsink in that case. Of course i would have to replace that small AC transformer with a proper type..Sure if your into making a cheap POS work a damn then yeah go for it.
very common problem, the circuitry loads the cartridge far too much.. crystal and ceramic cartridges need very high impedance input circuit , with suitable circuit it would almost definitely be better
@@andygozzo72 Even if the turntable was done properly, I don't think the speakers could produce any kind of full-range sound. The lack of holes in the back of the speakers themselves don't help in that regard either.
You mentioned one of the songs you played could give you a copyright strike. You recorded it in your video though, along with a bunch of other songs as well. I would like to post videos of electronics, kinda like you and the other folks here on TH-cam. How do ya get around the copyright stuff?
So I have a turntable, not the best, not the worst, it's a audio Technica lp60, so it's hooked up to an old ghetto blaster from the 80s I have and it sounds good, but I'd like to get a stereo system to hook it up to, perhaps one that is reasonably priced, any suggestions? A good quality one as well.
+Jeremie Go to your local thrift stores if you have them, check out Craigslist ads for stereo receivers/speakers from the 70s to the 90s. That's your best bet.
Jeremie Also, once you get a stereo system set up, make sure you use an input on the receiver marked "Tape" or "Aux." because if you use the regular Phono input with that turntable the audio will be messed up. That doesn't happen on traditional turntables that don't have a built in preamp.
Thank you for "buy[ing] this crap so [we] don't have to." Looks like it's from the Land Of Durabrand, even though I'll bet they've never heard of VU meters there. Honestly though, I was kind of disappointed you plan on parting it; I'd have suggested you send it to Garret Claridge so he could smash it with a hammer!
Hey there. If shango066 were to have that same item in his possession he would most definitely EOL (burn or destroy) it in a way where it will end up in the trash. Try just sticking to vintage stereo radios, turntables, etc. & see how that works for you.
If they took a product like this and actually made it quality they'd have a hit on their hands. It's like they hit it out of the park with the looks and then make it with the cheapest, most awful sounding things they can find. Can't help but Wonder who makes these calls.
www.amazon.com/Qbos-USB-Speaker-Microphone-QB1485/dp/B00KOUK3SA Found that when trying to find information on QBOS. Thought the masking tape on the speakers and the solder were very interesting.
I found them on Baidu (chinese search engine) their website is still up and going strong at www.qbos.com.hk/ They're a HK company which is surprising seeing the low quality.
What a pile of junk dude. Helpful tip: When buying a home stereo you want to pay attention to overall weight. If its light its basically junk. I have some new high powered transformers, send it to me so I can pop it on camera and make the world a better place.I have a proper turntable that was given to me by a friend, it was custom built and the guy who built it only built like 10 of them for radio stations and such.
LOL it came with a wore out belt i can't imagine somebody using that piece of junk long enough to wear the belt out LOL or did it come out of the box with a wore-out belt LOL
doubt it was the belt, poor/dry bearings in the motor more likely, the rumble is too high a frequency for that, maybe even bad 'bearing' on the turntable itself
So high tracking force? 7,2 grams??? Really? Laudetur Jesus Christus! I would never use a such really cheap turntable with a so high tracking force. I don't want to destroy my records.
Yuck. That thing sounds terrible! I hope you didn't pay more than a couple bucks for it. The only thing interesting about it is probably the VU meters and they don't even work properly!
Watching these old VWestlife videos makes me appreciate his newer content more. He's more confident and much less shy now
Usually if you never heard of an audio company, they make high end equipment. Doesn't appear to be the case here.
Juliette is never heard of and they can be hit or miss
My mom and dad had a stereo with VU meters, but it had a built in 8-track recorder. It was a Sound Design.
Impressed with how that 78 sounded.
The QBOS keeps hanging on!

Ugh! This thing IS crap! Thanks for buying it (so I don't have to!)
BBISHOPPCM's World QBOS more like QPOS LOL

Ha! Loved the old '78 record!
Me too.

I had to laugh at the tearfully joyous ending the qbos lives on lol
Would you say the turntable sounds worse than that electrohome you had before?

Did you adjust the speed at the end?
Was that the late 'Reverend Ike', preaching up a storm, when you tried the AM ??? ;)

vwestlife Thank you. I did not realize you made a video about the record already.
Hey VWestlife.
How did you manage to repair that circuit board underneath that turntable? :)
Yes.
The record player Kevin is not bad

Is it possible to replace the tone arm on those types of cheap turn tables considering they all use the same type of belt drive???
No, but you can upgrade the stylus (needle) or cartridge: th-cam.com/video/EBbprKEsExM/w-d-xo.html
You weren’t kidding when you said "lacking in bass"

"I buy this crap so you don't have to." Thanks
I think this deserves an EOL video. Fire works well, might even fix the turntable.
Vintage music from 1930
Love your videos, but wouldn't the balled up FM attena make for poor reception?
maybe, it'd certainly help a bit if unwound and laid out ..
this is the second stereo I've seen that you have to turn up full blast to get the vu meters to work. Why is that?
Tyler Hanson Because the meters are using a linear scale, rather than a logarithmic scale.
You mentioned one of the songs you played could give you a copyright strike. You recorded it in your video though, along with a bunch of other songs as well. I would like to post videos of electronics, kinda like you and the other folks here on TH-cam. How do ya get around the copyright stuff?
Tails Furse If you play less than 28 seconds of a song, usually it won't get picked up by TH-cam's Content ID copyright system.
oh now i have to download that song and do a speed up

Why don't you send (as a gift) this portent to Michael Fremer?
He would feel in glory, sure! 😃
Fremers a fucking douchebag that likes hearing the sound of his voice way too much
my god, this is a terrible piece of trash, but doesn't sound so bad after all
When was this made?
alexthepc Keep watching the video. ;-)
What is the name of the 78 you played
Gary Chapman th-cam.com/video/KeEQELJPGq4/w-d-xo.html
If that cartridge stylus is made from ceramic, it'd probably destroy your records too!
Nice set up
that description xD
poor Kim Wilde, subjecting her record to that thing 😁 (i'm old enough to remember 'Kids in America" 😉)
GTA VC WAVE 103
Kim Wilde, those jeans, and 'Kids In America' were plenty of fuel for a young man's dreams... I know; I was there! ;-)

Only good for the radio but you need junker records! ones that you don't mind getting trashed
Because when you buy old shitty records you need to play them on a shitty turntable
sounds like a soundesign cassette player:v
Like a VERY BAD cassette deck.
Junk! Those horrible carts eat records...
Joe Collins A strict diet of vinyl is one way of slimming down on sound quality.
I would trash it. It has seen better days.
where the rest of it cd tape deck phono bass treble aux
It sounds as terrible as it looks. No suprises there.
What a piece of junk!
I hear hi-nrg music. Kinda like american equivalent of european italo disco.
I would never subject any record to that turntable!!
hmm, maybe something like 'agadoo' , 😜
A serious candidate for steamroller crushing, isn't it?

I have always wanted a stereo with a built in fan!
Better than the Jensen JTA-230, but still junk.
Jason Derulo! Interesting find Vwestlife :)
Lets blow it up!
I'd want to see that!
Wow that thing is even worse than a crosley.
I'm not a fan of those 78 rpm shellac records that's why i got a 2 speed
i got a very similar set one day on local craigslist for 5€ it could also do recordings and usb cd playback. it w
