    As a Latter-day Saint, I was so thrilled and excited to listen to one of our favorite and original LDS hymns being sung by another denomination. The Spirit of the Lord was there and the voices of this beautiful choir moved me. Thank you.

    I'm also a member of the LDS Church, and it's awesome to hear this being sung by a different church. The lyrics are powerful! I do have a question about if they understood the song's lyrics, especially the first part, where it talks about the restoration of the Gospel in the Latter days. Regardless, its awesome!

    Written for the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. I was told by a descendant of one of the original choir that the members were divided into four groups standing in the four distant corners of the room for the performance. It was a joyous occasion!

    I love to see this. A Methodist chior singing an LDS hymn. I am LDS, and hate people saying we're not Christian, but when I see this, it touches me. Why do people have to be bitter enemies because of different beliefs. Christ taught love, and I try to live as he did every day.

      Agreed 100% Kristopher

    • @CJCappella
      @CJCappella 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kristopher barker - yeah but LDS are not Christians... This isn’t a matter of being bitter, it’s truth. What qualifies an organisation to call themselves Christian when their fundamental doctrines are unchristian? Christ was the fulfilment of prophecy and your leaders teach that Joseph Smith came to restore the gospel. Christ says ‘the gates of hell shall not prevail...’ so who are we to believe? Jesus of Nazareth or Joseph Smith? Christians believe that Christ was enough. The Word made flesh. God (Jn 1:1-14) was it. There was no need for another. To teach that He was to be followed by a backward boy from the United States... if Christ’s sacrifice wasn’t sufficient, then we are all marching straight to Hell. If you want to be a Christian, you won’t become one by being LDS, if that hurts your feelings, then perhaps your attachment to Mormonism is more emotional, than true spiritual conversion. God bless you!

    This particular arrangement was done by Mack Wilberg, the current Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. We also had the opportunity to sing this arrangement in the dedication of one of our local meetinghouses and it was a very spiritual experience. Thank you for singing this in your congregation. You sang it beautifully, majestically, and full of spirit! It moved me to tears and I have already watched it several times. Priceless ‘tho the two kids yawning at 3:02, 4:05, and 4:20. They must not have gotten enough sleep before the performance. Lol

    The Spirit of God like a fire is burning
    The latter-day glory begins to come forth
    The visions and blessings of old are returning
    And angels are coming to visit the earth
    We'll sing and we'll shout with the armies of heaven
    Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb
    Let glory to them in the highest be given
    Henceforth and forever, Amen and amen
    The Lord is extending the Saints' understanding
    Restoring their judges and all as at first
    The knowledge and power of God are expanding
    The veil o'er the earth is beginning to burst. Chorus
    We'll call in our solemn assemblies in spirit
    To spread forth the kingdom of heaven abroad
    That we through our faith may begin to inherit
    The visions and blessings and glories of God Chorus
    How blessed the day when the lamb and the lion
    Shall lie down together without any ire
    And Ephraim be crowned with his blessing in Zion
    As Jesus descends with his chariot of fire Chorus

    It doesn't matter whose singing it: Latter-day Saint, Presbyterian, Adventist, or Methodist, the feeling is exactly the same and you can see it in the soloists and in the faces of the choir, they know what they're feeling and THEY LOVE IT. The look on the Pastors face, she can't figure out what it is, you can see her thinking through it, but she knows it's good and she's proud of her choir. The lead soloist is excellent and they all did an amazing justice to the hymn. What a feeling they all got to enjoy together as a worshiping congregation and the acoustics in the building carry it. Instrumentals, everyone great! I really like how it gets louder and louder and they're literally shouting and there's smiles on so many of their faces. They know they sang their best for their Savior. Power, powerful stuff. Standing ovation

    One of my favorite hymns and anthems as it speaks about a restoration (which we believe has occurred) as opposed to a reformation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was surprised to see it preformed by a choir not of LDS or Community of Christ, and in a church setting. The performance was magnificent and brought tears to my eyes just as it has at any other setting I have seen or been a part of. Well done.
    My questions are as follows:
    1) Who found, selected and decided to perform this piece?
    2) Were the choir members, including the soloists, musicians, organist (beautiful organ btw), the conductor (and I'll also include the church officials seated on the stand) aware of the gospel doctrine, particularly LDS church doctrine that this sacred anthem proclaims?
    3) What was felt by the choir members while practicing and performing this sacred anthem?
    I can tell you that I felt that very Spirit of God and hope that you did also. Once again, Well done and BRAVO!!!

    It is quite true that this is an early LDS hymn by WIlliam Phelps; but except
    for the reference to "latter day glory" (which can be generic in meaning), the content is not exclusively LDS or RLDS (CofChrist).

    We members of Community of Christ (formerly known as the RLDS church) tend to sing this traditional historical hymn at a much faster tempo than this version and faster than the LdS/Mormons tend to sing too. :)

    • @quiltmania58
      @quiltmania58 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would love to hear this sung at a faster tempo---the way you are saying RLDS sing it. I loved this slower version as well. I usually play it at a fairly good clip for my Mormon congregation ( faster than most Mormon organists.) I would love to hear the "faster" version. It is a powerful piece of music and text--- no matter the speed.
      It does surprise me to hear another faith singing about what I think are uniquely Mormon doctrinal points, such as the "veil beginning to burst," calling in our "solemn assemblies," "Latter-day glory begins to come forth." Also about "Angels are coming to visit the Earth" We are excoriated for claiming such a thing! This is all so interesting to me. Any comments (respectful) are appreciated. I'm very interested in hearing some of your views.

    • @westonfm
      @westonfm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @leon d berg: if you were going to give typical Community of Christ tempos a numeric range, what would it be? This piece seems to go for solemn/regal at about 80bpm, but I'd guess most Mountain/CoJCOLDS congregations pick 96bpm on the low end and go up to 120bpm when feeling spirited.

      I agree. If a less accomplished congregation sung it at this pace, all would be dead or bored to tears by the end. This choir, organist, orchestra-----absolutely inspired to take it at this tempo. Absolutely inspired!
