Hello all, I'm the Rome player in this video, and I must say that I'm am honored to be praised so much in one of your videos Jackie. Thank you for letting us contribute to the community and showcase our meager skills as Classical Armies RTS players. The strategy for this video was made by me and it required having both a steady and trusting teammate. In the army composition phase, we have to split funds between the two of us and he allowed for my skirmisherless, heavy/high-quality infantry on the flanks at the expense of him having a weak center. The success of the plan was entirely predicated on the idea that a densely massed barbarian center could hold long enough for heavy infantry to take the day via a slow, but incredibly durable flanking maneuver. This was opposed to the classic strategy which would entail the opposite and rely on a strong center and lighter and faster flank. You called it exactly as to my idea with the Triarii to hold the initial engagement lines and as you saw, subsiquent lines of heavier and higher damage shock troops pushed out from behind them and around to envelope. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your insight and explanations of my tactics on your channel and I am grateful for your support of these games and our niche but well-loved genre. With Gratitude, Novelle.
Inspired by Hannibal at cannae? Great strategy. Just pour men into the center and hope they hold until like u said slow but durable flank can win the day. Best battle I've seen in a while bro. Good stuff
@jaguar warrior Some people are better at other things, like when I play RTS with my buddy, he's always turtling while I hold the line :D It works and we both enjoy it.
Thank you Jackie! I'm happy you enjoy our battle replay! It was a lot of fun and nerve wracking in the end. We did everything we could to save Gaul... The formation took me and the averni player off guard, plus my army was simply not deep enough in quality to face practically 1.5 armies on my own
@@gaius3766 It was over when you (your team mate?) over committed the cavalry at the beginning there I reckon. Once they were gone it was too easy for them to bog you down and then just outflank you.
@@ComradeBucket absolutely! I tried to convince him but he likes to defend aggressively. With the Averni cavalry still in the game and used defensively we might've been able to overpower the Roman cavalry. Was a load of fun nonetheless.
I find it hilarious that the Triarii in this battle were the light Roman infantry deployed first to just soak up enemy damage, when traditionally they're the elite heavy Roman infantry chilling in the back row of the Roman army. It shows just how *incredibly* elite the Roman army was in this battle.
I've often wondered what it must have been like to participate in these massive ancient battles... but then you see the aftermath of these battle recreations and you quickly realize, "Nah. F%ck that. I'm cool just sittin' right here with my Starbucks Latte."
PsyintZ Well if you’re looking for the kind of action where you can participate in the fight with relatively great chances that you survive, look no further than the Rorarii of the Pre-Marian Roman army. Rorarii were reserve skirmishers that stood behind the Triarii in a battle. These soldiers were the second poorest of the army, poorer than the velites! However, despite their complete lack of armor, they were able to afford short swords and shields, as well as their own ammunition. You would get a good chance of surviving during the skirmish due to your position in the very back of the formation, but if it comes down to the Triarii, you will be required to fight with nothing but a sword, a shield, and a death wish, so be sure to be up to date on your battle history before you hop in that time machine.
The Arverni and Nervii players apparently weren't aware that their units all have large charge bonuses and they really, REALLY needed to charge in order to defeat the romans, because roman units have higher stats (other than charge bonus).
Wow Jackie, your channel has grown so much! Happy for you because you really deserve it considering the amount of time you spend making all this content for us.
ive used some pretty epic city defenses against much larger armies. in a city with no walls i baited a whole army into a choke point with practically naught but the garrison and used some troops that werent pulled into combat to outflank and route
I recall a 2 battles in Rome 1 against a friend. Long story short. In the first 1 my friend had 1 complete spartan unit, i had 2 complete units of pikes. I attacked from the front and the rear, yet both units fled, and I lost. Next battle i got the Germans, he got Sparta again. I had like 3 units of screaming ladies (they lowered the morale, not sure if they are still here in TW2). Since i had more units because the Germans were cheaper and i didnt upgraded all, those 3 were uncontested. They were on 1 flank (left), so it was easy to move them behind enemy lines in their center and then activated the scream on the Spartan back. Seriously, what the hell, after a couple of seconds like 4-5 spartan units in the center routed. After that collapsed, everything went downhill for them. Easiest battle i ever fought. Took like 3-4 minutes.
One of my favorite battle ever ! the battle tactic from winners brilliant ! Jackie FIsh, Pixelated Apollo and Hierofcathage my faorite total war Channels !
@@benedictjajo yeah Romans are OP, I mean they minimalize their loses, by buy a time sending the low value units to the front and use elite romans to crush left flank of the enemy and attack from the raw, the cavalary encoutner was draw (sory for my english I am from western europe)
do you know any mod for AI to be better in battle gameplay? i use DEI mod and other small sub mods but AI fighting unrealistic they just stack up in a bunch or running around... plz answer thx
What graphical mods / settings / resolution / overide antialiasing - you use ? Your movies look very very good. I'm impressed by the texture quality and the detail of it all ( and color palette, contrast ) . I was taken a bit back when i saw the chest of the galic warriors ...i saw hair and very defined muscles. The metal & flora also looks very good. Practically all looks good.
Best Tactics ever? Superior Rome units knifing through inferior units and outflanking them leaves alot to be desired for tactics. seeing the initial line up already summed up the game from what i was looking at.
Is the tactic of getting off additional charges not valid in Rome 2? Back in my Shogun 2 days, pinning enemy cav down, and maneuvering a loose unit of cav for a rear charge was brutally effective. It was even viable to take light cav in, charge, take a second unit, charge it in as you retreated the previous unit. Here they seemed to just mash their cav together at the start. Maybe I missed something.
Awesome video, I love Rome II but huge battles like this my game lags out the butt. Once I upgrade my CPU I hope I can play these huge battles smoothly.
how do you set it so you can control so many armies, or set them up a certain way before putting onto AI? it only lets me control 1 army as default and then i can't set up the others?
@@JackieFishHD Hope it works well. But don't pay too much expectation on it. The company NetEase they coperate with is a large company but not too friendly to players in many time

1st time watching 1 of ur vids, I like that u get UP CLOSE 2 the action👍🏾👍🏾😎 thts where pixelatedapollo is lacking lol I lol like both y'alls style tho, keep em coming!!🙏🏾🙏🏾
Not gonna lie, I'm not crazy impressed by the tactics. The defenders threw their cavalry on both flanks away. Their line was far too static, they needed to push against their center. Yet alone use their munitions. Their archers and cav were totally unsupported, probably should have committed them later. The lack of counter attacks in the center hurt 😭. I prefer slingers too, far more munitions and cheaper I think. They never had a reserve, they were too static, and I dont think they had victory on their mind.
@@jrgamer1243 you're using oathsworn wrong if you keep them in a static shieldwall. They aren't hoplites or legionaries. Just watch oathsworns obliterate other units when they charge into other units and pop headhunt.

Guys what’s the best computer to play these games on? And epic battle simulator type hugggeee battles?
A powerful cpu with a decent graphics card would do as it gets a bit laggy with very large engagements.
With such number of models on the map on each side, a battle in DEI would take easily over one hour.
