- Once again, I dun thought I violated every spillin'way, dam, creek, puddle, bridge, waterfall, and/or riffle on this side of the Tallahassee. Not sure where the Tallahassee is, or if that's even a river, but you meant what I know. Jor-Dan and scrolling through Farmers Only, I mean google maps, and stumbled upon this gem of a hydro dam.. Ive fished a similar looking one, but didn't know this one EXISTED! PAAA POWW!!!

Fun fact... in 1978. My grand father caught the largest Northern pike recorded from the St. Lawrence river.
The pike is mounted and on display at the brockville ontario aquatarium..

You had a catfish on when you reeled in only the head of the sunnie. They do the same thing to me sometimes. Can also be a gar but the bait normally comes back more shredded looking or teeth marks. I think it's due to how strong a catfish can hold onto a bait. You'll think it's hooked for a second but the fish is just holding onto it. They take time to get the hook in their mouth sometimes
Most likely a channel cat that did it. Flat heads are a little better at eating the whole bait quicker.

There’s some nice walleye in the second spillway. We usually catch them on a jig head and chartreuse mister twister

The bigger the better tasting on the flatty’s. But please make sure you eat the belly, cheek, and shoulder meat. That’s the best and sweetest
Thats why you use rope stringers for catfish they will roll and unhook themselves and you're out dinner

You never put a flathead catfish on a metal hook stringer you always use a rope stringer for those my dad taught me that
A good size eating flathead is any size flathead.

i wish we had these bigger spillways near me. the spillways barely have water flowing right now and low low water
Them wire stringers suck. My dad caught about a 15 pound large mouth and put it on one of those stringers. While he was back out on the boat I pulled the fish out to take a look. When I threw it back out too far the clamps straightened out. My dad was pissed because he didn't even get a picture of it. This happened in the mid 90s and I never told him what happened, he still thinks the bass straightened the clamp out and got away 🤷🏻♂️

I learned my lesson on clip stringers and catfish not too long ago too lol. Lost half my catch. I love clip stringers but no Bueno for catfish. I think it's how strong they can death roll. They work great for bass, sauger, and fish like that tho

Those metal stringers are no bueno,We were up at my uncles cabin one year(Big Pine Lake,Minn) And i had (had being the key word,lol)A decent Batch of Walters that got loose.I had them attached to his dock and just went inside to grab the fillet knife and a bowl.Needless to say that was the worst day of my summer vacation back when i was gettin ready to start my freshman yr of H.S. Hav'nt used one since.
Don't forget they always seem bigger when you're fighting against the current too. But considering what the ones you caught last time you were there, it's probably decent size fish

Whenever i go fishing i always put my needle nosed pliers on my belt and have a spare one in my tacklebox. Dont know why so many people dont do that?

Appaloosa cat nuggets you can eat very large appaloosa cats (flatheads) fry them with a egg bath and coat them with some corn meal flour mix little salt and pepper fryed ine grease (lard,butter,cooking oil) pick your poison enjoy miss catch some big flatheads and dam fishing for stripers

Oh man I fish those spots 3-4 times a week best catfishing. I'm glad you found them.
At the first bridge you were very close to the best catfishing in the state. Probably only 10 miles from that bridge.

I thought so I’m a originally from Columbus fished there a bunch as a kid also swam in it all the way to the tail race. Lots of big Flatheads caught out of there
@@mazeikeenburton6922 I live in Columbus but grew up in Albion and I've been fishing there for 40 years. And yes lots of big flatheads cought there. That spot had the state record cought there years ago if I remember correctly. But has been broke since then obviously
