I find it amazing how many peope resonate with the river. And I understand it. I don't live on the Missouri River but in my area, we have the Lehigh River. That is my go to. I have kayaked many miles on that river, and its my place of peace.
Wow, this is such an excellent documentation of this adventure. The interviews, the cinematography, the story, so great. Cheers to all the folks you came across, Cortez, Scott, Norm and the others. The work you have put in is evident. Thanks!
Incredible documentary Dirk and perfect put together. Love the quiet, the challenges and the interaction with individuals along the way. I envy you as I have that same adventure spirit in me. However after getting married at 33 its as if something inside of me is lost. Now close to 67 I just marvel at you guys being free. Love from deep dark Africa.
I live in Arizona and I’m approaching retirement so I have been watching videos about the beautiful places in the western states. After watching this video I am going to put Montana on my list 👍🇺🇸
what a beautifully crafted documentary! the visuals are stunning and really capture the essence of the Missouri River journey. i have to say, though, it seems like there’s a bit of an overemphasis on adventure without touching enough on the environmental issues affecting the river. it would’ve been great to see a deeper dive into that aspect too.
@ 22.30.. Exactly. 🥰 I'm still climbing trees and I'm nearly 60. I still lose many a weekend exploring, although, I'm in Roman valleys and orchards here n VLC. Scottish guy in Roman Spain looking at the beautiful U.S.A?! You betcha. Stay young kids! ⚡
Lovely film! Very well done. I subscribed and am excited to see more of your journeys. I must say that whoever is driving your truck/camper and films you along the way, must be a good friend !
The beavers create the wetlands and the habitat for so many species - the beavers are a key species for habitat restoration and maintenance plus water conservation.
If this interests you, read Jerry Pushcar’s book Waters Beneath My Feet in which he describes his three-year solo canoe trip from New Orleans, up the Mississippi and across Canada and Alaska to Nome. It is epic.
Don Starkells Paddle to the Amazon is such a great story. Canoe Museum in Peterborough Ontario Canada is well worth the visit, amazing collection of boats.
What an amazing video. I'm very excited to watch the rest (in about 10 minutes!). Dirk, I'm a fluvial sedimentologist, I study the sediment transport in rivers. I am so jealous of your journey. To see subtle changes in sediment size (boulders and cobbles in this video which will turn eventually to mud in the Mississippi Delta) and the near river topography would be remarkable. If I could pick your brain, was there a specific part of the river you began to see well-defined levees? I'm thinking of natural levees, not engineered ones. Thanks again for this content. bravo.
A few years ago, I did the Missouri in a sea kayak starting on the Madison R. a short way up river from Three Forks and continued on down the lower Mississippi R., the Atchafalaya R., and finally, the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway to South Padre Island, TX. I just wished I had started a little earlier in the fall because I had some snow and very windy conditions on the big reservoirs in N.D. and S.D. There are some long portages around some of the dams so a kayak cart was a must.
Thank you! I am a new subscriber. This was a gentle reprieve from the visceral feelings of chasing political videos that will make me feel better about the scariest election in my lifetime. It was much needed.
The Missouri River officially starts at the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison rivers near Three Forks, Montana. However, some sources consider the source to be Brower's Spring in the Centennial Mountains, which feeds into the Jefferson River.
Thanks, glad you like it. For filming the documentary I had a two people team with me. So, while camera guy and I were filming the hiking and biking our production assistant drove the vehicle to the location.
ok who is filming all this footage .....the drone must be taking the aerial video ......but who else is traveling with you......i admire what you are doing and sometimes wish i had it in me to do the same.....
After completing the solo journey in 2018 we recreated the trip with a filmmaker/camera guy. So on this trip it was 2 of us. Thanks for watching, enjoy the other episodes.
Beautiful journey Truck and kayak are gorgeous Any reason you chose a wooden kayak over a pvc one? Or was it more of use what you have and works kind of thing? Subbing and can’t wait to see the rest of the trip
Thanks! I had built a birch bark canoe for a previous trip on the Yukon and loved the experience of crafting the vessel and then using it for the journey. For this trip a sea kayak makes more sense because of the big reservoirs, which you will learn about in the other episodes. I bought a kit and put the boat together in a month. It was again about the process and the beauty of wood.
Unfortunate to see the restoration people using plastic twine to wrap the willow branches. I like to use hemp string which decomposes. This plastic will eventually make its way into the creek and cause wildlife problems. I do admire their ambition though.

What makes being european so speacial? My european ancestors have been here for over 400 years and so have 90% of any second or third generation families that live in america , sorry just find that an odd statement.
Hi Josh, thanks for watching and your comment. The reason I'm mentioning that is because Europeans don't know much about the significance of the Missouri River. I am German, born in Europe, so focusing on America's River hopefully attracts more interest in the Missouri.
I can’t believe u TRIED to pull off that Truly Lame “ Spontaneous meeting “ I liked Until That happened 💥🤣 Just SCRIPTED Reality TV “ 🤣Acting “REAL”🤣🤣🤣🔥
So proud of my son, Cortez Rohr! Living his dream......a paradise.
Awesome!
Glad to see Cort doing what he loves in place so majestic and diverse. He is a great friend and wonderful conservationist.

As a language teacher in the US, I am always so impressed by Europeans ability to speak English so well.
Thanks, Beth, that's very kind;-)
This has been a dream of mine for 30 years. Thanks for the journey!
Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you from Missouri.GOD bless and keep you 🙏

Simple vehicles and simple mechanics. I love the old vehicles 😊💯♥️
Beautiful photography.... well done. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Cathartic.
Thanks so much for watching!
I live in Arizona and I’m approaching retirement so I have been watching videos about the beautiful places in the western states. After watching this video I am going to put Montana on my list 👍🇺🇸
Excellent! Go for it!
No better place to retire.
An ad before & an ad in the first 1:30. Very nice
Inspiring documentary.
Totally awesome

Thanks so much for your kind words! Our focus was on the encounters with the people, but yes, the environmental impact is a very important issue.
Fantastic journey...can't wait to watch the rest of these!
This is fantastic. Seriously. It's tastefully and efficiently done. So very Deutche 👏👏👏
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching.
Can’t wait to see more

New scriber bub.. Mind blown 🤯.. Perfect job on the edit!! Beautiful
Thanks so much!
Don't you have rights of this series? You should upload in your channel as well @WELTgeschichten01

Fabulous photography!!
Thanks so much!

I think he's this guy should have his own show
Thanks, that very kind!
Good stuff
Love them commercials that don't stop unless you just skip 'Em just got a love' Em
Good good video!!
Glad you like it, thanks for watching.
I’ve stood in the Hole in the wall, when we done from Ft.Benton to Kipp Rec.
Nicely done
Thanks for watching!

That’s my husband’s cousin!!! Hello Norm!!! From Eric!

Nice trip :O)
First time watching, love it so far! How to you get your truck and trailer down after paddling or biking for so long?
Thanks, glad you like it. For filming the documentary I had a two people team with me. So, while camera guy and I were filming the hiking and biking our production assistant drove the vehicle to the location.
Too bad you didn’t do a You Tube on building that kayak. That would have been a good one. What kit was it?
ok who is filming all this footage .....the drone must be taking the aerial video ......but who else is traveling with you......i admire what you are doing and sometimes wish i had it in me to do the same.....

You can paddle twenty five more miles before great falls!
There’s an old saying in the West: “Never ask a rancher how many cows or acres he owns”.
The rancher felt comfortable answering the question. Let him speak for himself 💀
That’s like asking how much money do you have.
There's another old saying: "Nobody cares."
Beautiful journey
Truck and kayak are gorgeous

@@WELTgeschichten01 Definitely agree with the beauty of wood
The Missouri River is around 2300 miles long.
my exact thoughts,,lol
The Missouri is excellent trout fishing in Montana.
Do you ever eat? Who moves your Vehicle/trailer? And the Drone????
After my original solo journey in 2018, I was recreating the entire trip with a camera guy. And yes, lots of food, but boring to watch;-)
Hilarious I read about a guy doing this twenty years ago, including naming every dam and town on the river.
always wonder where the mysterious camera man comes from ....
After my original solo-journey we created the entire trip with a camera man.
During your trip down did you see gators and sharks ⁉️☺️
No gators and sharks;-)
Yeah there are lots of Gators and sharks in the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains. 😂😂😂
There are three sources for the miss.
It was a magazine series in real time
Thanks so much for watching!
The Missouri is 2,241 miles long so why does it say 4,000 miles?
Hi Brad, we refer to the Missouri River from the source to the sea including the first waterways and the lower Mississippi.
Need to grow a set bud!!
Unfortunate to see the restoration people using plastic twine to wrap the willow branches. I like to use hemp string which decomposes. This plastic will eventually make its way into the creek and cause wildlife problems. I do admire their ambition though.
4,000 miles down the Missouri into the rocky mountains, um ok.
You mad bro? 😂😂😂
@@slappy8941 it would be kinda hard on a 2300 mile long river.....js
The Missouri River is 1 mi longer than the Mississippi River.
God’s Glory is seen in all of His creation!
So he takes his truck ? Huh
My camera guy and I used the truck for filming the documentary as we recreated my solo journey from 2018.
you don’t flow down the Missouri River to the Rockies it flows the other way. Into the Missippi
Amazing English. Thought you were american for a bit.
Thanks for watching!
But this is very romantic
Looks like Kevin sorbo couldn’t get any new roles
John 3:16
King James Version
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Thats lame i didnt realize this was the only one out

Bunch of lame claims…
Students believing they're having an effect on such a river is rediculous- it will go where it wants.
Oh, no. Man tells the river where to go.
