S R, dairy and eggs do harm animals. In some ways, they are the cruelest industries. Please go to JewishVeg.org/cows and JewishVeg.org/chickens for more information.
It's still common practice for pasture raised chicken farms to blend up the males on the day of their birth just because they were not born without female parts. It's also quite common for pasture cows to be artificially inseminated to continue lactation periods. Part of the process typically includes taking the baby calf from the mother within 24 hours of birth and killing her at 1/5 of her normal lifespan because she can no longer produce milk.

I am a hindu vegetarian.....waiting for the rest of the world to catch up......but......there are cows in our paradise.....at hindu "ahimsa" dairies the cows are never, never slaughtered. The cows are so happy that they sometimes continue to milk years after weaning. Also, cows naturally give more milk than their calves need. One just needs to visit an "ahimsa" dairy to realize how happy cows love to give milk....how they are so loving and affectionate that they raise the consciousness of the caretakers.
Cow's were selectively bred to produce an unnaturally high amount of milk. This is not in the interests of the cow, this is in the interests of humans. They are exploited. Is an ahimsa dairy better than a normal dairy? Of course. But it is not something that exists as a benevolent act towards cows, it is an operation that serves the interests of humans.
