    How to bounce a bass drum like dribbling a basketball 101. Bonzo's dynamic feel in his foot makes a straight beat swing hard and heavy! And those rolling, tumbling riffs make this a favorite of mine!

    Yep, even this album is surprisingly good in retrospect, their entire catalog is worth a listen, even their so called left overs still fuel the party. Led Zeppelin was just so damn great. Enjoy the rest of the best! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

    There’s a Hots on For Nowhere riff buried in this tune, that always threw my mind off (still does) .. The vocals added later will lead you to Plant’s first solo album Pictures at Eleven .. any of these -Burning down one side, slow dancer, far post are all songs to react to from it..

    • @sebastianblack6506
      @sebastianblack6506 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Slow Dancer is epic. And yes, you're spot on, Plant's vocals on this track sound like his early solo stuff.

    • @rick063092

      With the way La & Che lost their minds over Kashmir, Slow Dancer would be the natural reaction follow -up.. I can hear the “that beat’s hard” comment after hearing Phil Collins’ drums

      @@rick063092 Very true, in a related note, they should listen to The Firm's "Midnight Moonlight" as well, which of course started as the Zeppelin instrumental known as "Swan Song". Slow Dancer and Midnight Moonlight would make a great double whammy.

      I just happened to notice that too. I wouldn't have but La and Chi got me to revisit Presence. But I think it's the opening riff to Tea For One that was abandoned. Tea for One might be my least favorite LZ song, so I rarely listen to it.

    This was originally recorded as an instrumental to be on Houses of the Holy album - but they decided against putting it on the album. I believe the lyrics were added for CODA. This album is so underrated. Since this was released after Bonzo died- the production of the entire album was as an homage - interested to see what you think of Bonzo's Montreux on Side 2. Thanks for doing this album!! ☮

    • @markdrechsler5660
      @markdrechsler5660 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I do believe the vocal was added afterwards. In fact, I always thought this song sounded like something from “Pictures at Eleven,” Plant’s first solo album. Both it and Coda came out in 1982.

  • @catlee3730
    @catlee3730 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Christmas 1982, my sophomore year of high school, I got this cassette tape as a gift, along with Physical Graffiti (I wore out 2 and I have this on vinyl now, of course!), and Combat Rock by The Clash. I grew up a Led Zep girl (and still am), but I was discovering punk, and that was quite a rabbit hole to go down in the '80s. Pretty sure I'm still in it … 😄

    This was originally an instrumental jam that Bonham and Page put together. They recorded the instrumental for Houses of the Holy, but it never made the album. They would play parts of it live in the early 70's as they broke into other songs. Plant added the vocals many years later and it there are various mixes floating around.

  • @henriettaskolnick4445
    @henriettaskolnick4445 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    As @suspalmer8931 said, the melody dates back to Houses of the Holy time with Robert's vocals added in 1982 for CODA, however, if you listen to the riff, think back a little bit because it's reminiscent of Hots On for Nowhere from Presence. In addition, I've heard at least one bootleg where Jimmy plays parts of the riff during the improvisational section of Dazed and Confused as well as occasionally during The Crunge before it had been recorded anywhere, so clearly this riff had been knocking about Jimmy's brain for a while. The song itself does sound a little muddy, but I don't feel it takes away from the fact it's a driving, authoritative number that provides a great frame for Jimmy to unleash some hot guitar licks. Considering the circumstances this album was created, and the band, I can ignore a little mud lol.

    Hope you guys look at even later stuff. So about 7 or 8 years ago, Plant, Page, JPJ, and John Bonham's son got together and recreated some Zeppelin Magic. The Disc was called No Quarter. They also did a live thing called Celebration Day in 2007. They all have some age on them, but you cannot tell it. They sound just as good in 2007 as they did in the 70s. Also, Jimmy Page did a documentary with Jack White from the White Stripes, and Edge from U2 called It Might Get Loud. They all have their guitars out and they go through some of their best songs and talk about how they came to be. I think you 2 might really enjoy all of them. Below is the link to Song Remains the Same movie. It is the complete Madison Square Garden live show.

    I agree with you all saying the mix sounded off somehow. I'll come out and say it: It kinda sucked! I'm no engineer or producer, like y'all are, but it just kind of sounded echo-y and tunnel-y and not well combined. I DO like the "pounding" sound of Bonzo's drumming. I mean, others may love the mix, each to his/her own, but I think this sort of "murkiness" I'll call it, plagued some tunes on this one and some on "In through the out door" as well. But, yes, it IS Zeppelin, and gets my enthusiastic thumbs up and open ears for that!
