OMG. I LOVE this! My fiancé and I were homeless for a year. I worked for the state, got laid off when the Governor cut over 2,000 jobs and the apartment building we were living in was foreclosed on. We started to get back on our feet in another town and had a job lined up (and with that an apartment). Then I got really sick (was pregnant) and we had to go back to our “home town” and I had to deliver our son, who didn’t make it because he was born too early and we were in the hospital for over a week. Within that week the job that was lined up found someone else to take to position and we lost the apartment since we didn’t have the job anymore. It can happen to anyone, just like that. It was a series of horrible events. Don’t look down on those who are homeless, 9 times out of 10 they have seen and experienced things most people couldn’t even image.
This hits very close to home! Not everyone that becomes homeless is because they use drugs/alcohol. I will be homeless in a few days because the nursing home my mother is in is claiming my family home as payment for her care. I have no friends or family left and no other options available. I was a sought after business manager and lost my job when I was stabbed in the back during a robbery. Thanks to all the disability scammers out there its nearly impossible to get my benefits in this town/state. There is no way I will survive on the streets. It's just so sad that so many people miss judge and miss label the homeless. It CAN happen to anyone!
This made me cry. So man of us are just that one paycheck away from being homeless ourselves. Be kind to everyone, no matter their status in this life. You never know who you may be pointing the finger at or turning your eyes from. It isnt so hard to treat others how you would like to be treated yourself.
I always try to help even if it's just a dollar, but it kills me to watch this video, at my job I have contact with homeless people but it's not in person. But when you hear their stories you find out how educated, smart, and talented some of this people are and it breaks my heart at times that I can't help them. This video is great, allows people to see that not every homeless person was a criminal or a druggie and that's why they homeless. Thank you
I was homeless from age 16-19 in Boston as a runaway. Only one shelter would let me in before 18, so many nights where spent sleeping outside with a group of kids my age. We would get many stares and "get a job" or "go home" comments. (It was safer for me and other kids on the street than home).... The whole time I was working at Boston College's food service program and going to school. I got my GED by 16 and bachelors from Lesley by 18. Never judge someone before knowing their story. **any homeless/runaway/at-risk kids 14-24 in the Boston area, please go to Bridge over troubled waters. They truly are the only reason I am here right now and have everything from a hot meal, shelter, GED classes, councilors to talk to.... The list goes on and on. You are not alone.
I live in Orlando, so next time I go to the library an I see one of them, I will definitely give. What's interesting is that these are not the people I come across. All I have to say to the guy with seizures, is I feel you 100%. Ive had seizures since I was a kid after a car accident when my head got stuck between the door and the passenger seat. And I've been there I've been let go for "business is slow" and if no ones there man I'm here
Really good to see this, and thanks for sharing, I spent 2years working with homeless folks in LA and its nice to see this kind of thing out there. Literally brought tears to my eyes and reminded me of all the storys from working on skid row. Hope this reaches people and helps to get them to educate themselves and be a bit more compassionate!
I went through homelessness and I understand what they go through on a daily basis, and before I became homeless I was kind to them, one thing I knew and hated most when I was homeless was the (uncertainty) and poverty. I learnt alot of things and its experience s I wont forget,I also got to know who are my real friends, I went to squatter partys, I stayed safe by hanging with two people I trusted, sometimes the homeless life had a great social life lol Now am doing fine for two years, thanks to God who helped me many times and my mother.
I was homeless for months a few years ago. Now that I made it out and stay focused I give back whenever, wherever I can. Thank you for filming, sharing and the understanding. We need to stop trying to "own" each other and instead befriend one another.
This was wonderfully made, and thought provoking. I am disgusted with all of the negative comments on this video. What you negative people should really be thinking is "There but for the grace of god, go I." All it takes is one personal tragedy (like losing your job), at the wrong time for you to end up the same way. Anyone at anytime can end up living this way.
***** then maybe if they don't care or have fears, they shouldn't make comments then. I don't sympathize with cowardly negative attacks on homeless "people"...
I have been in the one in the street and can feel the pain they feel. I know this is world wide and that we should all be a part of stopping this from getting any worse. This touched me in so many ways. Most just look at US (yes i still include myself) in disgust and stay away. please help the fight on Homelessness.
The glowing lives and warm hearts of countless people called "homeless" deserve respect... it can happen to anyone of us, and has happened to more of us then we even know. Do not think that because someone is homeless that they are an addict and put them selves there... this is wrong. Treat them as people worth the fight.... and many of them went through more struggle to stay alive and keep the hope then you can even imagine... for true strength comes from within and some of the people with the biggest hearts and minds have called the street there home
Most of us are just one or two paychecks away from being homeless. As a teen, I did some volunteering in a few homeless shelters. Most of those people struggled paycheck to paycheck then lost their job, got sick, or got injured. They aren't bad people, druggies, or alcoholics. They are people who hit hard times and need a helping hand. I commend y'all for making this video, and I urge everyone watching to volunteer some time to help and get a better understanding of the people's situations.
This is a very touching story. To those of you that ask "why can't they get a job like most other people?" think about this..... If you lose your job (for whatever reason) you can't pay rent/mortgage. No rent money means no place to stay. No valid address (place to stay) means companies aren't legally capable of hiring you. Yes, there are homeless shelters and half way houses (though they require you to be inside by a certain time of afternoon/night), but it makes me wonder....is there enough of these places to accommodate all homeless until they get back on their feet to fully support themselves? Even programs like section 8 (free and/or reduced price housing based on income) are reaching their limit.
This is beautiful and IMPORTANT. These are our neighbors. This is our community too. These are American citizens. They deserve housing. Shelter needs to be a CIVIL RIGHT, just like food and clothing. House the Homeless NOW!
This video was so eye opening. I am speechless. Until i read the comments at least. The amount of people that have no sympathy for the less fortunate is heartbreaking. If you were in their position, you would want a sympathetic hand to reach out and help you. You have no idea what they have been through or what they are going through. So please stop being judgemental and rude and realize that they are people too, they have struggles just like you and I. Just love, thats all. #rethinkhomelessness
The baseball scholarship one hits close to home because I've always thought that if I ever made it there I'd be set for life with my education. Really opened my eyes.
I myself am "homeless", I put that in quotations because we, my friends and I prefer temporarily displaced. We work, we help each other and were not alone. I've noticed that this who have nothing to give are the ones who give the most. The puerile I've met on the street have been better to me than people who I knew when things were going great for me. It's a community out here.
Maybe but only a select certain type of personality health and/or mental/addiction disorders can lead to prolonged homelessness. If you are healthy enough to work you won't be homeless.
`There are 610,042 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States.` www.endhomelessness.org/pages/snapshot_of_homelessness ... see this catch 22, you need an address to find a good paying job, and you need a good paying job to get yourself a home address ... maybe if we give homes to the homeless, they will have an easier time find jobs ...
AvangionQ You need an address to get a job? Really? If that is true I would then agree with you, but for some reason I don't think this is true for most low end jobs.
***** To get a good paying job which offers more than subsistence wages, which is what I said in my reply, I would think so ... but if you care to quote proper sources to offer contradictory evidence, feel free ~ start with the fact check organizations, they usually offer the best evidence ...
***** Pardon the double post ... thing being, most employers will run a background check on their employees before hiring for any well paying job, and one of the things they can find out is where you live ~ if they find out you're homeless, the chances of being hired dwindle ... www.privacyrights.org/employment-background-checks-jobseekers-guide
Pets of the Homeless believes in the healing power of companion pets and of the human/animal bond which is very important in the lives of many homeless. They find solace, protection and companions through their pets. They care for their pets on limited resources so they themselves have less. Our task, nationwide, is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relive the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
That is wonderful. The dog that was in this video, Duke, was a military dog. He is such a sweetheart. We also have a program in our community that helps the homeless with pet care. Thank you for all that you do!
This project is amazing and a good reminder that there is more to people than our preconceptions. Thankfully I only had to live on the street for a very short time, and I still clearly remember what it was like sharing my shabby housing with cockroaches. My current apartment while modest, small and still run down, is far from those days. I'm fortunate and I wish everyone was. Liked this. Will share it.
Im in Louisville KY and have not seen my kids in almost 2 years because I am homeless. The only homeless programs here are for drug addicts, which I am not. I had 2 semesters of school left for my psychology degree and 14 years of nursing experience when my passed suddenly and I had a mental breakdown, being homeless doesn't mean you are an addict, lazy, or any less human.
Everyone has a story and those that are homeless most certainly have one to tell. Zebra Coalition appreciates this video and the focus it brings for us all to start to #RethinkHomelessness.
Liked and subbed, will share on my page too! We have a very similar mission and it is great to find people helping others! Thanks for helping the world be a better place!
The problem today is most people always think that, you only need a good job to get rich... These millionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't know exists...
The wisest thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on government paycheck. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world , this is still a time to invest in Stocks, Forex and Digital currencies....
I keep seeing how lots of people testify about how they make money from stocks, Forex and crypto currencies (BTC) and i wonder why i keep losing.. Can anyone help me out or at least advise me on what to do 🙏.
Even with the right technique and assets some investors would still make more than others.. As an investor, you should've known by now nothing beats experience and that's final. Personally i had to reach out to a stock specialist for guidance which is how i was able to grow my losing account back to $35k , withdraw my profile right before the corrections and now I'm buying again..
Inspiring and I have helped a few homeless people gave a Banana, orange something else then money. 1 guy we see around town yes we did pay it forward my boyfriend and I gave him $5. We met a local couple and became friends even if we see each other to say hi on the bus or sometimes I give them something to eat very helpful couple. I just don't like people when don't have a sign or sometimes do ask you for $MONEY$. I am a working woman trying to support my life and pay my bills. I became a homeowner in 2 months & 2 days on October 16, 2014 it be 1 year since I owned my 1st house loving it. We saved the life of our Boxer Mastiff Mix Dory she turned 7 years old on June 23, 2014. We adopted her from the local shelter on December 14, 2013 today is August 14, 2014 I have been her mom 8 months & loving her :) This every true and real I had my job as a Custodial worker on April 30, 2007 - present working for a non-profit organization loving it over 7 years employed. I am a huge fan of what they do & donate $1 a month $12 a year out of my paychecks anything helps. I got a comment yesterday from a coworker said thanks for your comments on FACEBOOK for INNOVATIVESERVICESNW.ORG be safe :)
Powerful. Amazingly sad that this is a problem in this modern day. So many advancements in science and technology, yet we can't help solve homelessness is America. I believe the lady that gave up her kids to save them from homelessness was the saddest one.
I so wish I was a billionaire. I know where I would go and the kind of folks I would do my very best to help. This broke my heart ! I am English and have NO such problems. I was once much wealthier, but I still have a life. Good luck to all these people. Brave people. X
No matter what religion or spirituality you believe in, we are from one source and it breaks my heart. if they are homeless we too are all homeless. Let's rethink homelessness as the video suggests and the one source will guide us each to do what we were meant to do to help our brothers and sisters.
You are a beautiful woman with beautiful eyes like an angel. who is given excess intelligence, said my god who sends down rainwater that stays in the sky. love, love, lovejj
This is exactly why I try to give a few dollars or a bottle of water whenever I see a homeless person. I don't know their story or how they got there. All I know is that they need help.
Sad. I always try and give money to the homeless if I have it, or at least take the time to hear them out and wish them well. I've seen many people who simply do not want to know, stereotype the homeless as deceitful/wicked and will just point blank ignore them..
The following statements will be coming from someone who was homeless twice in his life. The first time it happened was in 2006. Both of my parents had 2 jobs and everyone in the house (except my younger sister, who was still going through highschool) had a job and was helping out with bills. My dad (still) works at a highschool as an EA (educational assistant) and worked at a general hospital. My mother was also an EA, and worked at the post office. We lost our house because the landlord said he wanted to renovate and had no plans on letting us move back in. He also only gave us half a month to be out, which is actually against the law, which we fought and won, but still left us without enough time to find a place of residence. 2 of my brothers and I lost our jobs because of being homeless, my mom decided she would leave the school so she could get more hours from working at the post office, and so that she could dedicate herself to one job, shortly after, they let go my mom. My dad spent his time on the farm of the school taking care of it, and my mom just ended up with him, younger sister was able to stay at a friends house, one older brother was able to get a job on a cruse ship thanks to a friend that he knew, and my other brother just stayed with his gf, I spent more than 6 months trying to find a job, using my gym membership just to have a place to shower when I had interviews, and I honestly landed nothing for the entirety of that time. Definitely not for the lack of trying. The second time I was homeless, was last year November. Earlier in the year, my mom got injured while she was directing traffic after school and some idiot backed up right into her. The school didn't defend her, her insurance screwed her over, and my dad and I could not afford the place we were at without my moms income. No replacement from the Insurance company, no workmans comp, nothing. My parents (at that time) were making 75k a year, and we could barely afford our $1450/mo house for rent. I live in Hawaii, the highest cost state in the U.S., it's real hard to find a 3bdr place for less than $1800/mo. In both situations, my family was helped out by a close family friend. I can assure you that sometimes, people in these situations were just people that hit a series of unfortunate circumstances, and they just need a little help. I can also assure that of the ones that I have met, there are a lot of lazy ass people who are homeless and that sometimes, no amount of help can help some of them. However, please stop generalizing people and talking about them like you know them. In all honesty, if you don't know that person, stfu about anything you think you know about them.
Padlock, clothes, medium canvas bag with zipper, shoes, model and sculpturing. Uncharacteristically floater and fade away jumper. Makris received a Merax Finiss bicycle as a gift of generosity.
It's a good idea, and geniunely feel sorry for people who had a steady life and lost it, have health problems and ended up being homeless. However some part of me always thinks about the people who just don't care and fuel a bad habit or don't need the money but find "pretending" to be homeless as a job. Happens here a lot in Italy and read stories in UK about it. So some people ruin it for the rest..
terrible, because i live in a road where the council give such a lot to the residents, i refuse all the extensions etc, and proud of it, i live with the very basics!
For those that commented about how the people in the video "Don't look like they are homeless", Homeless, Rich, Middle Class people can all appear as the average person. There are rich people that live below their means and don't show off and flaunt that they have more than others. You can never judge a book by its cover. Not all homeless people are cheating the system, or are beggars who refuse to get a job. Life happens, circumstances arise, and many people are forced out of their homes before they are able to save up enough money for first/last months rent plus security deposit. Before judging somebody and their situation, try listening to their story and show a little compassion.
É importante e necessário conhecermos mais sobre estes nossos irmãos da população em situação de rua, quando muito percebidos como "invisíveis", mas infelizmente alvos do estigma e preconceito de nossa adoecida sociedade.
Yes, some of these people may have/had a drug problem. Yes, some of them may have made poor decisions. This video was about NONE of those things. In fact, that is one of the problems that I think this video is trying to address. The point of this video is EMPATHY. These are REAL people with passions and pasts. Notice how quickly some people will jump to conclusions about these people to rationalize not sympathizing with their struggle. Perhaps this video isn't necessarily about fundraising but it is most definitely capable of bringing a change. Helping people like the ones shown in this video starts with not dehumanizing people for the things that have brought them to where they are now. On a side note, the song choice IS NOT the message they are attempting to convey and shouldn't be anyone's focus here.
All beautiful people who belong to someone who loves them !!!! My daughter, too, is homeless. Her sign would say, "I have 2 degrees & I just published a book on Amazon" Her book was published on Amazon in February 2015, "How To Be A Hobo" - Brooke Willett. Full of anecdotes and practical information for those that find themselves, voluntarily or not, living the hobo lifestyle. Written in first person, Brooke and her little dog, Cloud have spent several years traveling alone and with a pack of like minded travelers, by rail, thumb and bus. The pictures are gritty and real, with the sad recall of rape & more. Prayers that my beautiful daughter who is currently striving to pull herself from the abyss, will somehow find her way off the streets & back into the mainstream.
kosmokat .V That is my hope & prayers. Thank you for your kind words & I hope that you seek her book. Her book is quite interesting & informative. Regular citizens do not realize that there is a mysterious subculture of homelessness that few of us understand. My daughter's book clears much of the mystique, as well as information on how to survive if ever confronted with the unmentionable.
+Jolie Blon I hate to be this guy, but I have to ask you, if it is your daughter and you yourself are not homeless, why is she not living under your household so that she can have a chance to improve her life through you her parent supporting her in this rough period? If I'm wrong, and you are homeless yourself, then that's fine. If you do have a household, and know what your daughter is going through, as a parent why would you not bring her in under your household and help her make it through this by giving her the foundation of family support that could change her entire life from this point on? That makes no sense to me. I would never in my life let any of my family members live homeless if I had the resources to do anything about it. Let alone my own child.
+Daniel Phillips You aren't "that guy" & I take no offense. Only a few years ago I would have asked your same question, which is a good question. Mental illness & her refusal to allow my help is your answer. I am not alone. There are thousands of mother's just like myself who lay awake at night worrying because our grown children are out there & we cannot get them to come home, or to a place of safety. She is living in a subculture that few Americans understand. Daniel, how would you force your adult family member to come home & to get off the streets? I would appreciate this answer for I have tried to figure out how I could force her to come home for mental help & a start.
The hard part about helping is the fact that every paycheck does indeed matter. If anything happens out your control (i.e. car accident) the bills that come with it don't allow for the excuse that you helped someone else and that is why you can't afford to pay.
I can just hear Clarence Henry's song, "Ain't got no home," playing on Ru$h Limbaugh's show for his daily bit mocking the homeless. What a class act that pig is.
This breaks my heart. No one should ever be homeless. My heart goes out to them all! Lots of LOVE and LIGHT! ♥

1:16 ... that just broke my heart... to give her children up to spare them that life... I cannot imagine how much that must hurt
Yeah she seems quite broken up over it ; smiling and feeling good !
Women have many places for help especially if they have children. Men 👎 no even less if they have children 😢.

if you haven't checked out channels like Invisible People & The Unseen I highly recommend them. BI Phakathi is kind of interesting too.

Thanks Michael Loyd! That is exactly what we are setting out to change. And trust me, we know we have a great deal of work ahead!
that last one really hit me close to home thats true love
#RethinkHomelessness asked the #homeless to write down a fact about themselves. Their stories will surprise you. #poverty

Wonderful. Thank you for creating this.
Awesome video and more needs to be shown for the world to see, God bless each and everyone of them!
What a sadly stories. I cant help myself to wipe my tears!
This is beautiful and IMPORTANT. These are our neighbors. This is our community too. These are American citizens. They deserve housing. Shelter needs to be a CIVIL RIGHT, just like food and clothing. House the Homeless NOW!
Powerful video reminder of who really comprises the homeless community. Checking out your channel now.
How can American society let this go on and on generation after generation? Good video.
Stems from, "The Great Society."
Such a powerful video! No one is immune.
Awesome "Royals" cover by Tanner Patrick!
Most people don't realize they're less than five bad breaks away from homelessness themselves ...
Liked this. Will share it.
this video is amazing!
That last one hit home
So touching...we should never look down upon Homeless people, they did not ask for this...
in tears
Im in Louisville KY and have not seen my kids in almost 2 years because I am homeless. The only homeless programs here are for drug addicts, which I am not. I had 2 semesters of school left for my psychology degree and 14 years of nursing experience when my passed suddenly and I had a mental breakdown, being homeless doesn't mean you are an addict, lazy, or any less human.
It's shocking how many people are on the street due to illness. Thank god for the NHS.
Fantastic video. Thank you!!!
Everyone has a story and those that are homeless most certainly have one to tell. Zebra Coalition appreciates this video and the focus it brings for us all to start to #RethinkHomelessness.
This hit home I've had to stay in shelters before and I'm only in my early 20s, so it hits us at any age
What an incredible video...
this is really touching and we really do need to rethink homelessness
Liked and subbed, will share on my page too! We have a very similar mission and it is great to find people helping others! Thanks for helping the world be a better place!
Thank you for sharing! We will check out your channel.
This is amazing! I wish it was longer :(
wow this is sure an eye opener!
heartbreaking to see so many people with talents give up their desire to live
you can have it all and lose it in an instant. never judge a person by their circumstances!
The problem today is most people always think that, you only need a good job to get rich... These millionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't know exists...
Money invested is far better than money saved, when you invest it gives you an opportunity to increase your financial worth .
It's remarkable how long term advantage people like us have gotten trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent
Wow, this was amazing.
Thanks Greg Trujillo and Carolyn Capern for sharing this with me in the Plus Your Charity meeting today.
Thanks for sharing this Network Round Table Small Biz Happy Hour HOA. ;)
thank you for posting this
a great film, simple and all the more powerful
No matter what religion or spirituality you believe in, we are from one source and it breaks my heart. if they are homeless we too are all homeless. Let's rethink homelessness as the video suggests and the one source will guide us each to do what we were meant to do to help our brothers and sisters.
The deaf man made my heart break. I would help them if I could and had the salary of a politician who does nothing for them.
this made me tear up
You are a beautiful woman with beautiful eyes like an angel. who is given excess intelligence, said my god who sends down rainwater that stays in the sky. love, love, lovejj
I was more impressed by the HOMELESS guy with a radio voice.
very powerful
for sure will see more, It's America we talking about
powerful video! this could happen to anyone.
That mother that surrendered her kids. You da real Mvp : ' )
Powerful.
This is exactly why I try to give a few dollars or a bottle of water whenever I see a homeless person. I don't know their story or how they got there. All I know is that they need help.
Sad. I always try and give money to the homeless if I have it, or at least take the time to hear them out and wish them well. I've seen many people who simply do not want to know, stereotype the homeless as deceitful/wicked and will just point blank ignore them..
powerful.
But your kingdom is not of this world but one to come when Christ returns// God bless the homeless//
Homelessness is not a crime,,,,, it is a situation that requires help from others.
We have 14 billion laws that makes walking out of your house illegal. All of them meant to control us.
00:54 poor girl... she really is beautiful
Homelessness is not what one may think!
I want to be just like them when I grow up !!
terrible, because i live in a road where the council give such a lot to the residents, i refuse all the extensions etc, and proud of it, i live with the very basics!
Great video!
É importante e necessário conhecermos mais sobre estes nossos irmãos da população em situação de rua, quando muito percebidos como "invisíveis", mas infelizmente alvos do estigma e preconceito de nossa adoecida sociedade.
Sweet... lot like HONY on FB. Luv this. :)
That is another example, that they are people like you or me. They just don't have someone to pick them up when need to.
Fort those wondering, as I was, the music is "Royals" by Lorde
Prayers that my beautiful daughter who is currently striving to pull herself from the abyss, will somehow find her way off the streets & back into the mainstream.
your daughter sounds like an amazing resilient girl I hope her book is a success
maybe then she wont have to live the "hobo" lifestyle
kosmokat .V That is my hope & prayers.
This is why I give money to every homeless person I meet. No matter how little I have on me
Great video, horrific cover of Lorde song :/
the song was a pointless addition to the video... I would have rather listened to In the arms of an angel... Muted it.
I think it's a wonderful remake. He's very talented.
I can just hear Clarence Henry's song, "Ain't got no home," playing on Ru$h Limbaugh's show for his daily bit mocking the homeless. What a class act that pig is.
