Tried the Talisker 'Distiller's Edition' Scotch the other night, which is aged in Amoroso Sherry casks. (Amoroso is a sweetened Oloroso sherry.) Seems to add a sweetness to the scotch. A very good scotch.

Excellent video Erik. Interesting notes we have had one or two Olorosso Sherry’s with a touch of sweetness as well. Very well done comparison and good info all around.
    Thanks.

This Glendronach is definitely on my list. But definitely a splurge type of thing. Great review. Maybe I'll pick up some sherry in the meantime

As I'm enjoying a tribal dry week and my wife says I have enough whisky, I haven't bought whisky in a while but I have 3 sherries to crack open. A PX, Manzanilla and an Oloroso. I think the Kilchoman fino is calling my name though.
I'm not complaining but why are these wines so inexpensive? Regular wine is fermented and out the door for $20 but these are aged and fortified, seems like more value.

This could be 23-24 years old depending on bottle date.

I have one of those bottlings and it is fantastic. I'm afraid to drink it though and have it disappear..

Great review, Eirk. I'm definitely a big fan of the Allardice. 2 Questions:
1: From your description (and my own tasting as well) there's considerable sweetness in the Allardice that you didn't find in the Oloroso you sampled there. Am I correct in thinking that this is just a matter of some Oloroso being considerably sweeter than the one you included here?
2: What's the bottling date on your bottle of Allardice? I'm trying to figure out how old it really is (there's a laser-printed date on the glass under the barcode on the back label)

Oloroso is a dry sherry UNLESS they have added PX. The label on this bottle specifically states "Seco" (dry). I'm not sure how to figure out the date of the bottling as there is no "bottle date." However, there is a code next to the ABV state states "10038614".

@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies Thanks for the clarification on the Oloroso. There should be a date laser-printed on the glass of the back of the bottle, under the barcode. No big deal if you can't find it.

You had me convinced until you gave it a score. The Dalmore 12 Sherry Cask Select is $80 and scored 96 points by total wine. This is why I don't like scores. Great video explaining everything else.

What year is your bottle from? Should be a black marking on the glass near the back/bottom of the bottle.

@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies On the back/lower section of the bottle they have a black ink stamp directly on the glass. It can be hard to see, but it should be on the bottle. It won't be on the stickers.

What's the year on this one, and I think the new one is out. Either way you can tell the new as they only state cask influenced color and eliminate the non chill filtered verbage.
