Hey Bill, I am a 62 yo widowed grandma, and you taught me how to change the belt out of my dryer, my arms are short and it was really hard, bc the first time I did it, the belt wasnt on correctly. But the second time was a charm!!!! $24 belt or $400 new dryer. I would say that is a WIN!

Absolutely magnificent! It’s July 2024, and I have a 23-year old Maytag dryer (slightly different model) that was screeching and howling something awful 😣. These instructions were perfect, and I managed to take the whole thing apart as shown, replace the belt (as shown in your other video), and put it back together without any extra parts 😁. Thank you for an excellent tutorial!

I just wanted to thank you for posting this video. Our dryer is the same vintage as the one in your video. Thanks to your great instructions I was able to partially dissemble the dryer (sounded like it had a broken belt), I noticed that two little baby socks had been sucked into the nylon blower wheel little squire cage thing and when I pulled them out it ran fine and the drum turned. Your video saved us a bundle. Thanks again.

I sure do thank you much for this video! We purchased this same dryer used because we like the older models, (they last longer) but got it home and found the drum not turning. with your disassembly help, I determined the belt had snapped.
    Easy fix!
    Again, thanks much!

Thanks Bill. Your 2 videos made it simple enough for me to tackle a simple problem that would otherwise have caused me to replace a perfectly good dryer. The Maytag site also had some advice on what parts to replace for my particular issue (noisy dryer). Now it should be good for another 20 years.

We have a slightly different dryer, but it was close enough so the disassembly went smoothly and with no trouble. After getting the machine apart, the fix (re-connecting the exit air vent duct) was easy. On my own, I'd never have figured out how to take the machine apart, and your video made it crystal clear. Thanks!

Bill, great video. Viewed it twice and the one for replacing the belt and rollers. Had an agitator partially disconnected in the drum. removed the front & door on my gas model and raised the top to replace the screw that had come out and tightened the other. Checked the other screws while in there and reassembled. Whole job took less than half an hour including cleanup. Your videos are great for giving the confidence to make repairs like these simple not to mention the cost savings. I very much appreciate your expertise and the great quality videos.

Thanks Bill for the video. Our dryer was making a noise every time the drum rotated so I told my wife that I was going to open it up. She pulled up your video and we watched it first. It really made the process go much smoother having watched the video first. It was a snap getting the dryer fixed! The noise turned out to be one of the screws that held one of the fins on the inside of the drum had somehow backed out and was rubbing with each rotation. Thanks again for your help!

You just saved us so much money! Our Maytag was screaming at us and I thought it was the belt or the idler pulley. We figured as long as it was apart we may as well replace the rollers and pins too! It ended up being a roller on the right side but as long as it’s down that far, you may as well replace everything. Thank you so much for this video!

Thank you for doing this video. It saved me a bunch of money for a repair I can do myself. The only comment I have to make is that you launched right into the repair instructions without making any safety tips. I realize that everyone should unplug the appliance and watch out for sharp edges but it would only take a few moment to make those recommendations. It can't hurt.

I have replaced the belt (2x), drum rollers (2x), heating element (2x), felt seal once, drum wear pads once (should have done this 2x!). The MDE3600AYW is so easy to repair! The latest is the drum wore thru the blue pads, destroyed the drum and felt seal. You cant get a new drum ɓecause they're discontinued! So, I bought a used MDE5500AYW (Neptune ) for $20 that was going to the junkyard and salvaged the drum. User tip: exact same drum!

The only other trouble I've had from it in 20 years is one of the tub paddles came loose and was making noise. Anyways, after I broke it down I found a bunch of lynt between the front blower wheel fins that threw it bad off balance. Dug it out, put it back together and she runs like a top again.

Don't forget to unplug it first. Once the cover is off there is a lot of exposed wire connectors and with 120 vac, a shock can be pretty bad. I watched both of your vids on the Maytag. We have a different model but it was easy to take the front off. The top does not need to come off ours DG84100. So much lint and ash in there. Really worth it just to clean everything. Just don't touch the flame sensor in the burner tunnel. It's very delicate. The motor was packed solid with lint. Surprised it didn't overheat, catch fire or burn out. New belt ordered. Took the 3 wheels off for a good cleaning and some lube. just a dab of high temp marine bearing grease on the shafts and they turn fine. Lots of lint in the lint screen compartment too. And more in the fan blades. I'm wondering why they don't put rollers on the front of the drum too. This one has 2 plastic slider pads for the drum to run on. Seems it would take less power operate on wheels. These dryers are a marvel of cheap construction. Lots of sharp edges so watch your self. Maytag wanted 44 + shipping for a belt. Ebay $10 shipped. We bought this one used about 20 years ago. One appliance repair guy I talked to said to expect 4 to 7 years for new appliances. Worth fixing the older models for sure.
