Same with my Syclone. I threaten to sell it every time it decides it wants new parts (often), but then I drive it and I just cant imagine not having it in my collection. This is 100% the SyTy ownership experience.
Here’s what I love about your channel. You get to the point. You do what we clicked on the video to watch. You don’t fill a buster with a bunch of BS.. hats off to you sir.
I like how you went through it intelligently you explained everything you investigated everything. A regular mechanic would tell you that you now need a full rebuild based on what he saw on the oil pan. I like that Alex is a professional and he was able to investigate evaluate and repair.
All mechanics are CAPABLE of this... Alex doesn't do it that way because if he did do it the way described in your comment, he'd only be screwing HIMSELF. Not literally gaining work=money from his outrageous, and potentially ill informed, guess. Doing this does nothing but benefit a mechanic who has literally zero integrity. Y'know it hurts literally everyone. People who are car illiterate, paying huge and unnecessary bills. As well as all the honest mechanics the world round, who likely deal with people questioning their integrity, quite literally on the daily, because of these @$$hats.
A "regular" mechanic probably works for a shop that has insurance and needs to guarantee their work. The only way to do that is to rely on the warranty of the parts they install. And if the parts they install do not carry a warranty, or require other parts to be replaced as well, then they aren't rolling in bearings and giving you a tail light warranty. People these days are way to likely to sue the pants off a shop if they pay for a repair that doesn't last, or causes other issues.
I did this with my father on a 1986 Honda prelude with 300k when I went back to college 30 yrs ago. It was still running 5 yrs later until the guy we sold it to died from a heart attack. We put a $650 automatic transmission midway through college. My father has since passed but I learned a lot about working on cars when I worked with him in the 1980s. Sadly his auto repair shop, Fred’s Foreign Car Service died with him… I didn’t stay on. I love this channel.
Good for you breaking down and having someone else do that diff. For that money it’s totally worth it. I was expecting it to be like $2500. I always want to do things myself almost to a fault. Sometimes it is better to just have something done by a specialist. Not worth it to fight with something for several days to save a little bit of money.
I love your “while we have it apart let’s clean/replace/rebuild everything in the area” mentality. Definitely beats replacing something only to have to remove the new parts to go deeper within to replace a different part.
Man, I watched hundreds of pulls but THIS ONE is the most exiting. This car has its name right, I want one. When You floored it this black brick just clawed the street and was gone. Not even a lot of tire spin, it grabbed and went. Awsome! I love torqe! What an awsome car. It don´t seem bloated, good visibility, nice look- please keep the opitcs. There are way too little 90´s lookers around. Good Job, Mate!
Love the stock wheels. I hope you just refresh them. If you change them go for ones with the same look, maybe larger. Rotiform does awesome stock looking replacements with larger diameter and width.
Chalk and string is what we used in backyard mechanic ability for the initial alignment center of the front wheels after changes to steering linkage. For the U joints, we just used old sockets and a sledge hammer. Would have been nice if my 17 year old young life had access to the tools and a garage like this guy. But, that was 1987, times were a little different in a poor neighborhood back then.
Note to Editor: We all know Alex is a car wizard but you also do an amazing job. Watching the outro's really puts into perspective how much work must go into making a good video. Also love the digital 80's theme intro! Great work all around! Can't wait till the next drop!

Fun fact I learned about zinc additive! It doesn't actually reduce friction, it increases it. But it reduces wear. Learned this from an oil analysis guy on another channel.
I love that you reuse hardware lol I’m a natural gas compressor mechanic and it’s common practice for us to reuse good bolts on internal engine parts and just replace bearings on engines that run 24/7 at full load
Not sure if they are still available but back in the day, I Installed manual brake rear wheel cylinders to help prevent rear wheel spin when building boost to launch. God I so miss my 92 Typhoon!
Yeah, I did the "bigger bore" rear wheel cylinders on my 93' and it helped a bit. I miss the good old days, pre internet, where you just took a guy's advice via an e-mail newsgroup on what to try to go faster.
I have to say that when it comes to automotive content of this sort, this is by far the best channel I've seen on TH-cam! Thanks so much for the entertainment and knowledge.
From all the videos and all the channels I’m daily following, you’re the one who motivates me the best with your content and your crazy fixes for cheap. I’m always learning new things Keep it up, love your humor so much Never stop doing what you do Alex, thanks for being 100% honest with your ups and downs because we all know mechanics can be exhausting and frustrating but also really rewarding
Alex you are the most fearless person I’ve ever seen!! I’m just amazed at the way you tackle problems with your vehicles head on without frustration or angst of any kind. Absolutely amazing!!
i agree. he always stays so positive (i know we dont see off camera lol) but after all he did and then hearing a random knock i would just be so upset. Then tearing it all down , getting wrong bearings then putting in the right ones and the steering box turns out to be a nightmare that then needs to be sent out. Gets it all fixed and dialed and then then blowing pipes off and then the suddenly random spark on the blower. How many times, i have lost count , where i finished something anddddd was excited to clean up to take it out later and cruise with some friends annnnnd something happens. Then i rush to fix the something and something else seems off. Usually , fix something tends to bring out a weak link somewhere else .
Yeah, love the positivity in the face of whatever comes. There is already endless negativity in the world. So that and the humor, I feel right at home 😂
Alex a little trick for doing a quick fix on a rubber hose is to get your hose ends butted against each other and run 2 pieces of wire between the hose clamps at 180 degrees to each then tighten the clamps, check to see if there's any leaks. Once that's ok then wrap your wire end's together at both sides and tighten them. This will act as a check against the pipes sliding off a smooth pipe surface until you get a chance to replace the pipework. Enjoyable as always Alex and a wonderful New Year to you and the family
The blue RTV was what made the oil starvation a problem & ruined the bearings, the big HP problem can be helped by changing the harmonic balancer to a fluid damper to help with crank flex. Oh by the way the GM harmonic ballancers are known for the rubber going bad and the weight gets off ballance on damper!
16:45 this was the BEST part of the video. Tell your dad you love him every chance you have. Lost my dad and this will be my first Christmas without him. Love your dad’s people.
Hey love the video, please consider changing the rear suspension to stiffer one, you lose a lot of force, while doing launch, and take video of before and after I believe it will make a difference with so much toque on the car. Good luck with all the projects, P.S consider buying 3rd gen Rav4 v6 and modifying it with Turbo, that will make a great sleeper, in stock it has 270 HP with 1.7 ton weight, Good luck with projects

Big fan of Alex and his channel but I think this vid had 3 sponsored ads plus a few subtle product placements as well. The third one though? Hairdo accessories?! I don't know the intricacies of You tube's payouts for ads but it is getting a bit excessive I think. I have gotten a lot of hours of enjoyment from Alex's content but I gotta say this is how you drive people such as myself away from your channel. I pay for premium because I HATE commercials. maybe I am the minority and and maybe anyone who stops watching will cause less of a monetary hit than what the ads bring in but I do hate to see this. It seems to me that Alex is doing well from his vids and doesn't need to ramp up the revenue streams but I don't know his personal life details/situation. I just hate to see greed take something good down. Either way I wish you continued success Alex I just hope the greed bug hasn't gotten hold of you already.

Will say I’m ok with basically subcontracting out the dif work and not burning an entire episode going thru it all. Focus on getting the project done and back together after it reaches a certain point ya know? Plus that thing looks BRAND NEW. Well done! Shop deserves all the credit!
Ball end 0-1" micrometer. They're great for checking a new set of bearings for consistency. ARP stud those main caps if this happens again. I went from bolts to studs on the main caps of a 1989 331 small block Ford roller motor I rebuilt a few years ago. Studs are far stronger than bolts. It's not up for debate :) The difference in roundness between bolts and studs I measured with a calibrated Mitutoyo dial bore gauge was .0003 ten thousandths of an inch. The reason I mention this is because a lot of people will tell you that a line hone is necessary when switching from main bolts to main studs. You could stud the heads with some MLC gaskets, if you get the itch :) Commenting as I watch: You probably know this since you live nearby, but McMaster-Carr is the place to check for all kinds of obscure parts like the c-clip for that spline.
Bro I love all your videos and we have very similar taste in cars. I have owned a boosted 93 TA, a 96 talon TSI, a charger, challenger, jeep xj, and more. I have been working on cars most of my life and I swear I have never heard about that rod knock test. I was planning on dropping the pan in the XJ to check and see about a knock issue but will do the injector trick first!!! Love love love the channel. I always seem to pick up little stuff from you! Thanks for all you do.
I agree but make sure to get the proper padded inversion boots with/for it, as the one I bought 20 years ago only has the built-in hard rubber ankle clamps with steel end plate/footrest and it hurts like hell after a few minutes.
A little hairspray on those intake joints will fix your blowing off problem. No need for new couplers if they're in good shape, especially at the throttle body (it doesn't have any retaining rib).
Wonderful. One of my dream cars. Just great. I have a Subaru Forester Sti. Just about ticks the box in the boxiness department. Not quite as rare as what you have there. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I patiently wait every week for a new video from Alex. It's the best TV series on TV / Streaming!! Sending my gratitude from across the pond in the United Kingdom. Let's hope as you continue to grow, you don't abandon the format 😊
Its funny how Alex take good care and the cars keep breaking down, meanwhile Dankpods substitutes oil and coolant with Nutella or Pilk (pepsi + milk) or Egg Nog.. and his cars refuses to die 😂😂
I know what you mean Alex, the 4L60E in my 01 SS was leaking trans fluid and I thought it was the torque converter shaft seal that was leaking, after putting the new shaft seal in it was still leaking, took the trans to a trans shop and they said my oil pump went out and it would be like $250 to fix, OR I can pay them $5,100 for their stage 2 upgrade and I won't have to keep taking the trans out every so often since it is a 4L60, lol. So I said go ahead, you're right. The $5100 also included a $700 2.84 first gear, and all upgrades were from Sonnax. To make her stronger I'll be doing the sonnax input housing and hardened input and output shafts. :)
Oh man, I feel your pain when taking out and reinstalling the front diff. I had to do that to my 1990 S10 and it was not fun at all. Trying to get a wrench into that small hole to hold the nut is a bear because the drag link can get in the way, or the wrench is too wide to fit in the hole, etc.
watching this video reminds me of when I completely did a over haul on my front suspension and steering to my 85 s10 blazer, the only easy way to get the front diff out was having the upper control arms out and I slid a crow foot and used it to hold the nut whole I loosen the bolts and got it all out so I can see the pain on getting it out
I’m so happy that you finally ended up with a Typhoon. They are such a piece of history just like your GN. I mean, they’re no Focus ST like on my channel, but they will do. 😂
My favorite project of yours so far. I was giggling like a school girl when you were launching that beast. What an awesome truck. I remember drooling over those things in high school and loving seeing you so excited to resurrect it today. Rock on Alex! Keep perfecting her!
Better yet, get some decent quality full surround goggles like 3M make that you can wear over normal glasses and keep all of the crap out including fine dust, unlike regular open safety glasses only designed to protect against impact from flying debris at eye level. Years ago I was on my back under a vehicle brushing crud and rust off some rear brake lines wearing proper safety spec’s and some rust still fell into both of my eyes and instinctively blinking rapidly to try and flush it out sliced my right cornea/pupil/lens coating membrane badly enough that it took years to heal and I could see and feel a small flap of loose cornea ‘skin’ catching my eyelid and moving when I blinked, causing blurred vision every other time especially whilst driving as luck would have it and some considerable agronoyance. The infection from the rust has lasted years too but antibiotic eye drops called GoldenEye with 0.1% Propamidine Isetionate and benzalkonium chloride solution helped to get over the initial severe infection that wouldn’t clear. Caked-on rust, road grit and dirt are apparently no joke. My right eye hasn’t been right since. Then there was the time in 1991 when I was turning brass on a lathe without goggles and one tiny chip jumped into my unprotected left eye and embedded itself into my upper eyelid, scratching the cornea and even after hospital x-rays showed no sign of metal left, it felt like it was still in there scratching with every blink, again, for several years. Like your lungs, don’t take your eyes for granted as you only came supplied with one pair.
Alex LOL how dare you not replace those half shafts cut it out you just put a brand new differential in there and you don't want the bearings to go bad in a differential then you replace the wobbly ass half shafts LOL my friend good job I love the videos brother
Alex… you are not making my obsession with Syclones and Typhoons any better sir! I’ve wanted a Syclone since I was a kid and hearing your Typhoon is making it so much worse
The original front shaft on the Syclone/Typhoon had a CV joint *and* a double-cardan joint due to the angle. Your new moly shaft is strong as an ox but it just uses U-joints. I'd check those angles and watch for pulsing when you turn your wheels, as this is when the single-U-joint pulsing will be amplified. Too much pulsing will be hard on the diff as well.
Bout 12 years ago had a diff for an s10 rebuilt for a buddy. He brought the truck to me to rebuild it and I encountered the same problem. Cost to rebuild was $400 vs $325 plus shipping for a used one! The shop told me that oversized tires, spacers and lifts are the death of those diffs! Tried telling my buddy that but a year later he encountered the same problem! After crying over the cost involved he paid an off road shop to convert it to a solid front differential ( Dana 44 ) modified to fit his s10! Cost him around $2500 but that shop was crazy good at building off road rigs!
If you ever need expert help you can ask “Cyclone Robban” from Sweden! World famous for his 8,71 sec pass on 402 meters with that v6 engine. Think he has been with the truck in Kansas City to 👍🏻

@@gdb5448 dam... will check it out! Cheers
Love to see you rescue these gems!
It's not up for debate :)
The difference in roundness between bolts and studs I measured with a calibrated Mitutoyo dial bore gauge was .0003 ten thousandths of an inch.
The reason I mention this is because a lot of people will tell you that a line hone is necessary when switching from main bolts to main studs.
You could stud the heads with some MLC gaskets, if you get the itch :)
Commenting as I watch: You probably know this since you live nearby, but McMaster-Carr is the place to check for all kinds of obscure parts like the c-clip for that spline.
Finally the poor Lightning got a few seconds of air time 😂
Bro I love all your videos and we have very similar taste in cars.
Alex, get an inversion table. The teeter brand is very good. Your back, neck and shoulders will thank you
I agree but make sure to get the proper padded inversion boots with/for it, as the one I bought 20 years ago only has the built-in hard rubber ankle clamps with steel end plate/footrest and it hurts like hell after a few minutes.
That was one of the best videos ! Love the typhoon and grand national series . You should take them to the track for some
Times!
No new oil pump? Or tack welding the pickup?
Wow really impressed on how fast the typhoon is!! 💯
Great content. Keep it coming, Alex.
Oh man, I feel your pain when taking out and reinstalling the front diff. I had to do that to my 1990 S10 and it was not fun at all. Trying to get a wrench into that small hole to hold the nut is a bear because the drag link can get in the way, or the wrench is too wide to fit in the hole, etc.
watching this video reminds me of when I completely did a over haul on my front suspension and steering to my 85 s10 blazer, the only easy way to get the front diff out was having the upper control arms out and I slid a crow foot and used it to hold the nut whole I loosen the bolts and got it all out so I can see the pain on getting it out
The editing for LSC is off the charts; makes your great content even better!
The Typhoon is one of my favorite series. I look forward to the next vid!
Max, love the Alex definitions outtakes. Those are getting better and better!
Alex, I love that you get sooooo excited over the Typhoon successes!!
Cars like this are awesome!!!!
That is crazy for a little old 2 door pickup/suv.
I’m so happy that you finally ended up with a Typhoon. They are such a piece of history just like your GN. I mean, they’re no Focus ST like on my channel, but they will do. 😂
love me some LSC on saturday mornings. Also thanks for the safety squint reminder alex
Love it! Thank you Alex and the LSC fam. ❤
Maybe look into stronger springs in the rear to reduce the launch squadding?
I'm thinking so
I second the motion. I will now joke about how much air the vehicle pushes when launched.
4s to 60 is awesome! Great job Alex. Plus we can hear the wheels spinning.
Dude it's nuts how fast these things are. For the engine to be so old and still put out stupid numbers like this is amazing.
OMG Alex your content is amazing and I enjoy your enthusiastic attitude when confronted with a huge amount of work
Alex makes some of the best automotive videos on TH-cam, hands-down.
Agreed. If I had the coin, I'd be proud to Drive any of his projects he revived, because he does it right, and doesnt cut corners for cost.
My favorite project of yours so far. I was giggling like a school girl when you were launching that beast. What an awesome truck. I remember drooling over those things in high school and loving seeing you so excited to resurrect it today. Rock on Alex! Keep perfecting her!
I was secretly hoping you were driving to our dyno 😂
The new bearing-change sounds great now!! Well done!!
Hey Alex, why do you not wear safety glasses when wrenching under a car? Its just such a simple thing to keep rust and loose debris out of your eyes.
He's perfected the OSHA certified squint.
He's waiting to get a couple needles in his eyeball like I have!! I now wear safety glasses all the time!! That shit isn't fun!!
🙄
This happened to me once, its no joke. Be smart.
Next day for me… awesome video!! Love the series!
Alex LOL how dare you not replace those half shafts cut it out you just put a brand new differential in there and you don't want the bearings to go bad in a differential then you replace the wobbly ass half shafts LOL my friend good job I love the videos brother
The factory ones are my car the best.
I absolutely love these , thats one of my dream vehicles along with the GN, and 68 rs/ss. So many to list.
That is a crazy amount of torque that truck produces this truck needs a better transmission like a modern dual cluch or a tune
One of the best channels on TH-cam! Keep it up!!
8:30 thanks for the recommendation! I work with a lot of wiring, especially on cars. I been looking for a permanent kit for myself.
If you ever need expert help you can ask “Cyclone Robban” from Sweden! World famous for his 8,71 sec pass on 402 meters with that v6 engine. Think he has been with the truck in Kansas City to 👍🏻
That cold air was helping a ton. So sick to see how it launches.
20:20 those GTR wheels are crazy good
Oh may god Alex, i just wanna say. Your gtr in the background lookin so cleannn and so neattt, love itt.
Man Alex, you look so nervous right before that start lol, I was nervous for u
Excited for more Typhoon content
Papa D and the SHO! Nice cameo.
