Those gearboxes are notorious for dribbling out all the oil and letting water in. Number “0” corn head type grease is called for to substitute for gear oil but I’m sure that number 2 will not make it blow up. That rake sounds loud. I would check all ten bearings on the bars. Each “Star wheel” also has two bearings. Install a grease fitting in the casting between the bearings for future shots of grease. I would disassemble the whole thing. That rolobar assembly should be very quiet as it spins. Very nice old unit. I hope it works good and lasts for you. Just subscribed!
Thanks mate, yes I agree it is very loud and doesn’t really spin super freely. I will check them this year and I like the idea for the grease point, I actually can’t believe they don’t already have one. I also think it’s binding slightly on the tines, but it should be easier/quieter. Thanks for the help 👍🏻
Hi great video i just brought a New Holland 57 Rolabar rake but what i find is the tyne hits on the the curved bar that it runs past any idea on how to fix it.
Hi mate, mine do that a little as well. I think the bar may be slightly bent in the way on mine, this is the reason I bent a tyne on the first run in the paddock! Thanks for watching!

It’s hitting on the frame, when you lower it to use it it should not be as loud unless it’s hitting the bascket bars.
Great video, since using the grease have you had any problems with the gearbox ? I am always putting oil in my gearbox .

does no one have the multiholed drawbar that fits into the lifting arms on the three point hitch to make hooking up drawn equipment easier ???????
Hey mate, I do one of those, I ended up using the TED20 on the rake and used that exact setup with the linkage stays. 👍🏻
