- The Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother have produced this documentary about the life of Saint Maximilian Mary Kolbe, an outstanding Catholic figure of the 20th century.
Kolbe was a man with great apostolic zeal, a precursor in the use of the Mass Media for the transmission of the Gospel and consumed his life with the testimony of love as a martyr of charity in Auschwitz.
The source of his zeal was his passionate love for the Mother of God, the Immaculate.
In the midst of many exterior difficulties, physically limited by his tuberculosis, he worked passionately for the spread of the Gospel. He was a missionary in Japan, and his publications reached as far as India, China, and even Arabia. He founded a city in Poland called Niepokalanow dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.
Saint Maximilian Mary is an example of generosity in the surrendering of oneself to God and encourages us to foment a tender devotion to Mary. To belong to the Immacualte was his ideal.
Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
We too feel called to announce the Gospel using the social means of communication. We would like to offer the majority of our programs for free so that they may greater serve others in their coming closer to Christ.
We have begun this path and we need some help in improving our few technical means. If God calls you to help us economically or donate the technical equipment necessary, please contact us.

I've listened to this on the day of St. Maximilian. I have heard of him but knew absolutely nothing about him. What a wonderful Saint!

I cry every time I see this and ask myself: what am I complaining about? What have I done to deserve life? What is keeping me from total and reckless abandon in the hands of Jesus? I need to grasp the true meaning of life then I will be free to give my life to others.

I visited Kolbe's childhood home, where he was born, and I also visited the cell in Auschwitz where he was martyred by the German Nazi's. It truly was an honour to be in the presence of where he was.

It is worth reading and researching about one of the friars that St. Maximilian stationed in Japan. Kolbe had wanted to build the town of the Immaculate in Nagasaki, among Catholics. But, upon visiting the prospective location, Kolbe said 'it would soon be destroyed by a ball of fire', and decided on a mountain slope away from Nagasaki.
Bro. Zeno Zebrowski was, among the very few foreigners allowed to stay in Imperial Japan, the only one that local authorities quietly exempted from house arrest. Kolbe had delegated a number of great tasks to Zebrowski, including supervision of construction of the original Niepokalanow, for his zeal and administrative ability, but perhaps most of all for his singular, Francis-like facility for interpersonal relationship, regardless of language, class, state, and trade.
When the atom-bombs tore open a gaping wounds on already suffering Japan, St. Kolbe's disciple was strategically positioned for the mercy of God through the Immaculata to flow down. Zebrowski leapt into his own lifelong martyrdom, and became the most beloved man of post-war reconstruction in Japan. He spent the rest of his years begging on behalf of the poor and abandoned. Organizing food, shelter and clothing, he virtually inspired and instituted volunteer work, then alien to Japanese culture. He founded numerous orphanages across the nation, and was so universally recognized that he was given a permanent vouch for the national railway system. He was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, the highest honor possible for foreigners, and a National Monument was built in his honor -- whilst he was still alive.
Zebrowski left Japan only to attend the beatification and canonization of his master, and died in Japan 52 years after first setting foot there. He inspired many holy people himself, such as Ven. Satoko Kitahara, and remains the second best known Pole in Japan, after Chopin.

This was extremely informative. Saint Maximillian Mary Kolbe is an example of true Brotherly love. To give ones life for another is the greatest sacrifice of all and display of Love.

I love this saint. I read up on him when I was 10yrs old, then again at 15yrs old. He was truly a remarkable man, despite all that he went through!! He should have been the National Saint of Vermany, Poland and ALL THE Baltic Nations!! Because of him, so many thousands and thousands of souls were saved. The Nazi soldiers and thousands of soldiers turned against Hitler because of him, after his death so many more just grew un their faith and that faith is so strong today in their families and their descendants. It's like a strong binding faith glue and they aren't letting it go!!! Bless them all and bless us all for knowing about this great faith man, who was truly sent by and touched by God at a time when he was very much and truly needed!! He is the awesome saint of All the soldiers and law enforcement of ALL THOSE nations, for what he was able to do and alone, with only his faith as his weapon of goodness and my God, did he do many msny great things for so many. He just never turned away from anyone or turned his faith away from them. He helped every single person who was screaming out for God, and there were thousands of every walk of life!!! God bless him and all in those nations and in our nations throughout the world!!! He us still a saint for all peoples of every nation and country!!!! Blessings!!

He is my patron saint and I love this video, but I must make one slight correctio. "Greater love hath no man than this than to lay down his life for his friends." is actually John 15:13 not 15:15. That is my favorite bible verse. St. Maximilian Kolbe pray for us!!

The only thing I want to point out is that two other men had survived the starvation with Saint Kolbe and I would guess most likely because of his hope. Just don’t forget there were others there with him at the end, as horrible as it was he didn’t go alone. Don’t forget the others who held out beside him.

Thank you for keeping St Maxumilian Kolbe faith al7ve through his story. I was blessed to spent 7 days in Marian Convent in Nieoikalanow in 1970, not knowing the significance nor the founder. I learned about it some 40 years later from books left behind in abandoned convent in New Haven, CT. It made me realize that God has mysterious way to place us in places significant to His Will even when we do not realize it. ST Colbe Ouswitz number was 16670, my uncle Joseph was 122, one of the first prisoners as the first prisoners transport had 757 people.
Thank you again for keeping memory of St Kolbe alive. His feast day us August 14th, the eve of the Assumption of the Immaculate.
Today God has given me the will to go on in the name of Jesus Christ and praise be to God for the life of Saint Maximilian
