LYRICS
TALIB KWELI verse
Let's take it back to the old-school Let's take it to Union Square
Let's take it back to the old-school Wave your hands like you just don't care-- Yeah!
I was raised in crack era Brooklyn
I can recognize the smell of crack when it's cooking
Man I used to play hooky
when dancing
Was jookin
Back when ratchet was a gun
And the knife was for the tricks
And the severe lack of funds got em masking up like a villan
I was in ciphers killing
Trust me
Niggas couldn't touch me but they had to feel it
Not yet a butterfly I was still a Catapillar ready to fly
I got beautiful memories
of mobbing like Genevieve
Critical how they leave
in this lyrical den of thieves
Please
I took a greyhound to California
Hit the Good life Café
where the legends
was styling on them
Non stop rhyming
since Top Ramen
So start climbing now
because the future
is not promised
So fond
of these beautiful memories
Unusual energies
A Stand up dude
And never bending my knees -NO
Bring it back x4
SUNSPOT verse
Let's take this way back to Oakland
Let's take this to Durant square
Sunspot and Talib Kweli
put ya hands in the fuckn air-YEAH!
These memories they just send me on way back
Raised up in Oakland the dope man
The Cadillacs
Raised by a hustler
Hustle and bring it back
Customers to a substance
deep up in a track
Yeah
Losing homies to violence all over bitches
Just another day thang
The jealousy how it gets us
I ain't caught up with the drama dishonor it's only love
In the barbershop
Foothill
raised at Golden cuts
And the Eastmont mall
TWauz --TwauZi!!!
I loved it all
Took this dream around the world
No radio play at all
Just believing in this hunger
Boy wonder will never crawl
Made an underground scene
from nothing
nothing at all
Black panther soul
With flow
This is the O
Mystik journeymen
the Legend
Ya already know
Years ago I met Talib
When he crashed at my crib
After that Greyhound ride
showed him Telegraph rich
Underground life
Yeah we did it independent
Just like I love my women
We collecting these chips
Classic should've had Mos Def
and Luck(yiam) on this
This that Blackstar/Legend
Underground shit
Bring it back x4
Yeeaaaahhhh
Much Gratitude

First time hearing this... and I LOVE IT
who else is on your bucket list?
This shit's dope!!!! i'm feeling it!!!
Love it!! I'll be adding this to my playlist. Man, this takes back to the early to mid 90's when I was bicoastal living in Oakland and Utica NY...reminds me of the Brooklyn hustlers that came upstate looking for a woman that would run drugs back and forth from the city... and it was easy for them, because they had the big chains, timbos, and fly cars with rims. I admit, I was attracted to their Brooklyn style and accent...but I never got caught up in their game because what they didn't know is that Upstate NY raised me but Oakland made me! They couldn't figure out why I didn't fall for the okey doke...Oakland dudes taught me well!
swoopin thru slappin that new-new. shouts out! -@nomadic4trees
