    1958 MGA. My first car. When I turned 16. $1,250. 1963... The car blew a rod in southeast Kentucky. No MG repair shops back then. So We took it to a Hot rod shop. They bored and stoked it. Redid the cam and crank. car ran really good after that. I had an exhaust leak - I cut a soup can in half, bound it together with wire and wrapped the whole repair in furnace cement. Worked great. Had to work on the top. Stitching coming loose. So I went to our family doctor who was a surgeon. Got the largest suture needle, and used it and dental floss to restitch the roof. On cold mornings I used the crank to loosen up the engine. Went to a a 12 volt battery. 2 6volts were problematic.I loved that car. The only MGA in central Kentucky. It was a blast on back mountain roads. - Yes the girls also loved it. A 16 year old living large.

    This was the first episode I ever saw of Wheelers. I remember thinking how could such a big guy manage to work on such a small car! I really got hooked on the show after this and have enjoyed every season. Although it was hard to see Ed go I've enjoyed the episodes with Ant and now with Elvis! Thanks for posting.

    Ed China is a pleasure to watch. Explains what he is doing very well and makes it a lot easier for someone who is not a Mechanic to understand. It was to bad he had to put up with that other host on wheeler Dealers. Totally irritating and all talk no substance

    Hi Ed, you are doing a great job! I have a VW T2 engine on one of my VW Oval beetles. Just realized that the knocking sound coming from the engine is the pulley that can be moved up and down! What do you suggest get rid of the engine or would it be worth rebuilding it which would cost quite a bit of money. It still runs but the sound is there. Your answer is much appreciated. Keep the good work going. Erwin

    Would the hole drilled for the roll pin not cause problems with the new seal. Also I think I might have used some masking tape when drilling the hole, that swarf could have got in the engine.

    If it isn't leaking oil on the ground it isn't a proper English motor.

    • @markferrel1325
      @markferrel1325 ปีที่แล้ว

      I e heard recently, 4/2023 that the MGA engines have many slight differences so that a mass produced kit wouldn't fit each engine properly. I have heard that a way to keep an engine from leaking oil is to adjust the vacuum. So now, onto that. Any comments, I'd love to hear because this particular oil leak is ruining my clutch grip.

    didn't drill the holes in the rear main bearing carrier to allow oil that passes the scroll seal and is captured by the lip seal to reenter the crankcase... My understanding is that results in a high failure rate.

    I can't believe you lifted that MGA under the bodywork instead of the chassis. Look at the damage. 0:56. That is the wrong place to lift these cars.

    • @paulhunter123
      @paulhunter123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wasnt that there already as they say

    • @awalk5177
      @awalk5177 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulhunter123 Is that a valid excuse for incorrect lifting? What about the other three pads also under the body panels. There is no jacking points on MGA bodies because it has a separate chassis and wooden floors. The correct jacking is under the spring areas front and rear.
